She is the first doctor I've ever had that actually sat down with me and went over my entire medical history from the intake forms, taking about 20 minutes to do so. I've always felt like with other doctors that they don't even read it. I couldn't believe how thorough she was! She checked everything relevant to my issues. She seemed like she actually wanted to help and was concerned about making sure that everything with me was OK. I found her to be very nice & personable. Not only that, but she was very knowledgeable not just in her area of medicine but in other areas. She made several comments/suggestions about my family medical history, my treatment at the fertility center, and about a cyst on my back that proved to me that she is very knowledgeable about all kinds of medicine. My previous doctor never even mentioned nor checked several things that she did. In fact my previous doctor never asked me anything about my personal or family medical history, my infertility treatments, my pregnancy, or my PCOS diagnosis at all! He would just come in, after having me waiting 1 hour, and talk to me for 30 seconds, then call a nurse to take my blood. Not at all the case here.. What a difference! I walked out of there feeling VERY impressed and I wish she could be my doctor for everything. I also found the front desk staff to be very friendly although it can get very crowded there because there are alot of doctors they are managing the front desk for. The procedure for giving bloodwork is a little different than I was used to over at Cedars. Here, you have to go downstairs to 1 room to register, and then go to another room to have the blood drawn. But it didn't take TOO long to do, and the results come back fast so I am grateful for that. My previous doctor would never call me with results and when I would call when they were finally ready 1-2 weeks later, they wouldn't give them to me over the phone. The doctor would have to call me back but he would never leave it over voicemail, and I usually missed his calls, which got annoying. Here, they told me the the results would be ready 2-3 days later and I could just call to get them.

I was looking for a board certified endocrinologist. I don't think I could have found better. I went in for a thyroid issue, but I've heard she has a lot of experience with diabetes. For my issue, once we had determined I definitely had it, she printed out extensive information for me to take home and went over it with me. She was responsive to all of my questions. She knew what she was talking about. She was very concerned about making the issue cost as little as possible for me. My insurance sucks right now, and office visits cost an arm and a leg. So I've been able to communicate with the office solely by telephone for follow-ups every couple months. It's hard to find competent, unharried doctors nowadays. She's one of them.

She answered a lot of my questions, and if she did not know about a hormone question I had, I was graciously referred to a specialist. I really liked her honesty, patience, personality, and sense of humor made me feel really comfortable for my first visit. I'm glad I made the switch to Linda for PCP, because my previous doctor assumed I was young and healthy, and would fast track our annual visits, but I would also rely on the data rather than a simple number (my age) to justify my health. I will say some of these comments on Yelp talk about the front desk, but my experience was more of the check out desk, who seemed unnecessarily grumpy that morning. There was a prescription that wasn't send to a pharmacy, and I tried to ask the front desk about it, but she snapped at me and said to ask the pharmacy (with attitude). Next time I could do better and stand on my ground more firmly, but as this review is for Linda Narvaez and not for the front desk/ check out person, I am personally rating Linda as 5 stars.

I have been seeing her for years. She keeps very detailed records of me, and would go through all my health problems during checkups. Sometimes I even forgot that I was bothered by certain minor issues the prior year, but she didn't. Her office staff are also nice and polite. There's meters on wilshire, and also plenty of 2 hour parking in the surrounding neighborhood. I never have problems finding a spot. I just came to the doctor to get some staples removed for an injury I had, and I was seen almost right away without any waiting. I was really nervous about getting the staples out, but the doctor made me feel at ease and was very careful so I felt minimal pain. Dr mahamitra herself is very kind and comforting, and takes the time to listen to you. I never feel rushed out or herded like an animal. The staff here is also great. The front desk girl Nicki was very friendly and sweet, and the med tech efrain who took my blood pressure and also gave me a flu shot was also very friendly and did a great job. I'm happy with the care and service provided, and also appreciate the network of specialists that they have referred me to, often in the same building. Since first becoming a patient, I've had two or three high deductible PPO insurance plans, all that have worked fine. They charge a $15 lab fee for shipping specimens to outside labs, which was explained up front and is reasonable. I also appreciate that they manage their office overhead by automatically charging my HSA credit card for under $100 balance due amounts, after first collecting from the insurance company and applying the insurance company's negotiated rates. This keeps their cost down and simplifies bill payment on my end. Some other reviewers take issue with this, but it's never bothered me. Overall great office for periodic medical care.

Otherwise it's the Physician Assistants. That was ok with me as I liked the PA I usually saw who was Jillian. She seemed to know when she needed to bring in the doctor and when she didn't. That being said, I was never very sick so she could pretty much handle everything. I am very sad that I have had to leave their practice. When you turn 65, I guess they feel they don't make enough money with what Medicare plus what your supplemental pays for a visit, so they charge you a flat fee EVERY YEAR just to be a part of the doctor's practice. $1500 extra per person, per year! Doesn't matter if you have great supplemental insurance (which we do). That's a lot of money and we couldn't afford the $3,000 a year. I guess it's the new thing and other doctors are doing it. But it's not for me. I am now at a wonderful doctor who is excellent and very happy to take Medicare plus my supplemental. He doesn't need for me to pay for him to have a much fancier lifestyle than what I have. He can drive a Prius just like me and it's ok with him. Maybe Dr. Bretsky doesn't want to do Geriatric Medicine and it's his way of thinning out the older patients. I get that. That's his choice. But then I'm not sure why the office acted surprised and a little disappointed that we weren't staying with the practice when I let them know. So if you're in you are creeping up on 65 and looking for a doctor, just be aware that a large fee per year will be looming in your future. If you're ok with this, then he's a great doctor and a very nice office.

Dr. Uyeki does not take United Health Care Insurance anymore even though UHC's website for 2019…read moresays that he is in Network for 2019. The Dr. says that they have not been with UHC for years but UHC says otherwise. This doctor is very selective about the types of insurance he accepts, and the plans in each insurance company he accepts so before coming here I would first call the insurance company to confirm and then double confirm with Dr. Uyeki's office. This can change year by year so always check each Jan 1 as doctors dip in and out of insurance networks. This Office is closed on Thursdays. They speak fluent Japanese here and that clientele makes up a large part of their practice. This Dr. also does not do x-rays in office anymore but does do blood draws and then sends them out. He used to take blood and x-rays and develop them in office--no more. On my most recent annual exam in 2018 on a Friday, he called me the next day on a Saturday to say all the blood results are okay that he had results on before all were completed. By the following Monday the rest of the results were in but he did not call again to say those were okay--I suspect because there was no problem. But after looking after all the results I saw that one test was not ordered that usually is every year (PSA) so I called the office to report that and they got it tested that week. He did not call on that result, I guess because it was okay. The long and short is that with the way medicine is practiced in Los Angeles for years and the influence of Insurance Companies--you need to be very proactive and keep records to compare on your own. The blood draws here are professional and leave no mark. You have to pay for parking in this building. The staff is pleasant. If you don't have insurance, they do take cash--call and ask them for a quote. This office is part of Cedar Sinai and if they refer you it will most likely be to a Cedar doctor.
