I booked Drybar for my blowout n' styling (big mistake ) and BlowOut Parlor for makeup. I got my hair done that morning and specifically mentioned that my hair does NOT hold curls well. I was hoping they'd at least last long enough to give beach wave vibes for my evening photoshoot... nope. Not even two hours later, all the curls had completely fallen out and my hair was straight. Thank God for BlowOut Parlor. I had my makeup appointment about an hour before the shoot, and while I was there I vented about my hair disaster. Even though the salon was PACKED -- every chair occupied and every stylist busy -- they were so understanding and somehow found the time to fix my hair. Completely saved the day and my maternity photos. This week, I went back in for a little self-care and once again they did not disappoint. Carolina really listened to my concerns and made me feeling like a brand new person walking out of there. I would highly recommend her, especially for special occasions!

I noticed she had availability later that same day, so I was able to schedule an appointment for 1:45 p.m. Even though I was worried I had waited too long to book and wasn't giving her much notice, she promptly confirmed my appointment and reassured me to still come in. From the moment I arrived, Robin was so warm, personable, and welcoming. As a mom, I especially appreciated that she was completely understanding about me bringing my 4 1/2-year-old with me. She even offered her a comfortable space to sit and wait while I had my hair done, which meant so much to me. I honestly had no idea what I wanted to do with my hair, but Robin had some great ideas and helped me figure out a good starting point. I absolutely love how my hair turned out! Ever since it got fried in 2010 after a $300 straightening treatment. Besides, who has time for these now? =) I found Anne from Plus Hair Pro on Groupon, and opted for the Yuko Smoothing Treatment. I was ready for 4 painful hours at the salon. I was wrong. Not only was Anne pleasant, and gentle (I could not tell you how many times my head has been pulled back by a flat iron, or being stuck at the sink for a while with my neck hyperextended, just waiting), she was educational as well. I felt like I was having a class on hair care. Anne told me how to flat iron my hair at home, which type of product to use (without pushing to buy it at the salon), what kind of haircut might look good, how to part my hair, etc. I've never gotten this type of (pleasant) lecture from anyone! She's also honest about the Yuko treatment, letting you know that you will not expect stick-straight hair, but lets you know how to manage it. My hair is not super straight, but it is notably less frizzy, smoother and easier to flat iron. Everything Anne does has a rationale behind it. And she'll explain it you really well, like there's a science behind it. And when she mentioned that she currently teaches classes at CSF, it all made sense. She loves her job, AND teaching! Moreover, she is currently a student herself, getting her degree in teaching, which explains why she is not available some days at the salon. I bet there's a lot more to learn from Anne. I'll be back in 8 months to learn more, and possibly get the layered haircut she recommended.
