Prior to any daycare or overnight stays, the staff does require a meet & greet. This costs $30 I believe and is used as a reference for your dog's friendliness, social skills, and overall behavior. They use this assessment to see which room to place them in. Each room has a camera set up for you to keep a close eye on your pup. I love this as you can get a true idea of if they like Dogtopia and also for your own peace of mind. The staff has always been friendly and our girl is always so happy to see them. The location is also perfect for us as we live near the mall. However, the location also poses a challenge as there is very little outdoor area for dogs to play and do their business. I say this because our girl did #2 inside, which she never does. My main issue with Dogtopia is the price. It seems to be $10 - $20 (or more) above other boarding places in Lexington. It poses questions as other boarding facilities offer more space and more amenities. I also think there should be a tad more transparency on what your pup goes through during overnight stays. What time are they put in their kennels, when are they let out, etc.

Shih-Tzu, and we had to do something with her while we went to the track. I found Dogtopia on the internet and it sounded ideal for keeping her for the day. I set a time for a meet and greet which was scheduled the day of boarding. We arrived and filled out paperwork. We noticed a large room with maybe 30 dogs of all different breeds and sizes. We were told this was not normal as they usually separate large and small dogs. Anyway, they asked us to sit for a few minutes while they judged how our dog would fit in. We were informed our dog failed their test and they would not be able to keep her. We were told our dog actually bit (nipped) the employee and did not interact well with the other dogs. Our Shih-Tzu does suffer from anxiety, and she does get aggressive when frightened. In that environment, there is no doubt she would be scared. I don't doubt anything the employee said but we told him she was crate trained and I noticed two small dogs in crates. It blows my mind while they didn't keep her in the crate for the 6-7 hours they kept her. Needless to say, we did not get to Keeneland and headed back to South Carolina a day early. We did not get a chance to comment on the care at Dogtopia. Please be aware if you decide to use their services, there is a Pass/Fail test as part of the meet and greet. In addition, we used the services of a doggie daycare in Myrtle Beach, SC when our dog was several months old. What we observed at Dogtopia did not measure up to the standards of the Myrtle Beach facility.

Experience: I got the shots I came here for. And ended up paying for what I was quoted on the phone even though there were hiccups. My dog was stressed, however, unlike at our typical vet. They do see multiple dogs at a time. This caused me to be a bit stressed as well. The whole process to get 4 shots (even though I only came for 3) with an "exam" (you have to pay for this to get shots, but I'm not sure what exam took place) took 1 hr. The vet was very kind. Initially they took my dog back, where I was not allowed to go, to give my dog an exam and shots. He came back very soon after and they said they would give the shots in the waiting room for my comfort. (I didn't even finish typing my text out that this was happening before they came back). I don't know why I couldn't go back, but this was a very different experience from any vet visit I've had up to this point. I appreciated that the vet got on the floor to administer the shots and was very kind. This meant a lot!!! Nothing about the well being of my dog or their joints was discussed (like has been typical for me in past visits to different vets). My dog did get 4 shots, one I didn't ask for, and they kindly comped me for this. However, they comped me for a shot that my dog DID need as part of annual shots and not the one they DID NOT need. I appreciate the kindness very much so, but and hesitant about the oversight of the 4th shot - to be fully transparent. I received a quote and they had the correct shots when I called to make the appointment. It was not as great of an experience as our normal vet, we did get a free shot (but it's also not needed), I saved $50, but also am not sure that an examination was really done. If you want or need to save money this does the trick!!! But I do have a couple of personal hesitancies.

They have rooms that are specific to cats and dogs but treats for both in all rooms. In the cat room they have calming spray that you can spritz around their carriers to help relax them. Both the techs and the vets were incredibly kind and efficient. They worked to sooth the cats and distract them while the shots were being given. I will return here for future visits. Side note: they have a sign in the lobby about being kind to employees and the fact that they have to have a sign like that is sad. If you aren't thrilled with them, act like a grown up and go somewhere else. It's not ok to abuse the employees who showed up to take care of animals.

He's pretty wobbly but we've been so lucky to find wonderful groomers. Due to Covid restrictions, she met me just outside the front door at my appointment time. We talked for a few minutes while she checked out my little guy. Then she scooped him up and said ok, he'll be ready in two hours. She texted a little while later to confirm the price and the time to pick him up. When I got there, he looked gorgeous and smelled delicious!! He was a little tired from the experience but so alert. I can tell that he feels like a million bucks since his haircut. I absolutely love that the grooming is by appointment, he's there by himself and cared for from start to finish by the owner.

Today I brought my dog in with wounds from an animal attack, and the young lady on the phones made a sassy comment "I read your review online, and I just wanted to make sure you're at the right clinic." It's true! I didn't make my dog suffer needlessly while coaxing a rude young lady to transfer records to a nicer clinic. She once again held my pet's care hostage for her own selfish reasons. The young vet tech who brought me my dog back insisted she heard the conversation and acknowledged none of the obvious sarcasm. Owners and management, if you're reading this, you have an immature young lady managing your front office who treat your customers like a high school nemesis. She has one or more cohorts who back up her sadistic behavior. I know you have good people working there, so I strongly urge you to address that issue. When my dog is done bleeding, I'll have an opportunity to ask her to transfer records to another clinic, and I expect a tremendous amount of friction.
