Sadly the service is rather slow, I really wanted to support this local business and waited for ages at the counter just to show my purse and shoes. Then I patiently waited 2 weeks and I added 2 extra days to allow plenty of time and still the staff could not find my order when I presented my ticket. It was not completed. Then they finally told me to wait yet another 20 mins while it was stitched so I said I'd return as I had other errands. Then when I returned 2 days later (I have a long drive) the stitching was crooked and rushed. The price for this was way over the top and the discount promised was not honored. So I just cannot recommend. I hope the management & tracking of projects improve - perhaps I was unlucky. read more

This place is great! The team was able to fix the zipper on my surfboard travel bag and I'm greatly appreciative. Rather than throw it in the landfill and have to pay lots of $ for a new one, this old friend will keep traveling. I took my leather boots to have the heel cap repaired on one shoe as the piece was loose the other needed the heel cap replaced. The repair cost $25 the piece used was plastic and they didn't polish or clean my shoes at all. The price seems high. read more

I brought this french belt to the store that needed an extra hole. The lady at the register helped me immediately. They had different hole sizes and she consulted me first before doing any work. Not only the belt looks like it came with the extra hole from the store but she was kind enough to not charge me for it. They also have a drive thru if you don't want to get out of your car and all kind of accessories for your shoes. I highly recommend this store. read more

At Federico's, they take your shoes and give you a card promising the repair to be done on a specific day of the week, after 2 pm. A week ago I dropped off one of my two shoes for structural stitching. Today (Feb. 29, 2024), about 3 pm, I came to pick it up. First, the guy who waited on me couldn't find it, after a disoriented search. Exact same thing with the customer in front of me. Both of us were promised "tomorrow". When I called him on it, he just shrugged his shoulders and said, "We're very busy." One Jose is the new owner. Former owners were Charles Federico, since 1939, and his son, Henry Federico. Since 1939, the father-son team gained a stellar reputation in Monterey County, and in the past 40 years, I've relied on them and been wholly satisfied every time. I suspect that since they sold the business to Jose, things have gone downhill. read more

I had a really bad experience at Federico's. I had them do a bunch of sweat shirts and t-shirts for my little league team. Federico's completely screwed up the decal, the placement of the decal and even the shirts we ordered! Then they had the gall to charge us more than they originally quoted us. Their employee, David, gave absolutely no fucks whatsoever when I brought all of these issues to his attention. We ended up having a different company completely redo everything we had done at Federico's. Stay away from this crappy ass company. read more

This place was great I got up this morning and went to tie my hiking boots and my laces broke. I called around and saw the ratings on Federico's I called them he said he had plenty of laces in several colors. I came in put my boot on the counter the lady looked at the boots went straight to where the laces were and even put the new laces in both boots while I stood there all for less than $4. That's service for a customer who didn't spend much money there. We are visiting from out of state but these folks are great. read more

I have a pair of expensive leather boots. My heels are always wearing down too quick. My boots got wet in the rain and the color was just gone. When I bought them they were a beautiful Dk Blue color. So one heal was already past the point to fix, I thought. They said one week. I came back and paid for the bag that they handed me with my boots in it. When I got home and opened the bag.... I nearly had a heart attack! These boots were almost more Beautiful and Rich in color than when I purchased them! So lovely and the heals were done perfectly! Just got my thick nylon suspenders trimmed & doubled up with a nice stitch around the edges. The tailor I usually go to said it would be too much for his machines & recommended Federico's. Glad he provided this tip! Service was on point. I was expecting the suspenders to be done in one day & they called me back in less than 60 mins! Seemed to have plenty of Staff in the back of Store at work. Drive through is recommended, as parking is limited on Abrego Street. Also got a bit light headed inside the Store from all of the shoe shine fumes (they seem to have all kinds) Maybe a better cross breeze would help? 2 out of 2 times I have take items (one pair of shoes and a purse) in to this shop for VERY basic repairs (things I could do at home but was busy and thought it would be easier to have them do it) I was told "we don't do that" which makes me wonder what they actually do. I needed a strap fixed on a purse, basic repair, you can buy the stuff to do it with on amazon. I was told "we don't make things, we fix things" I didn't need anything made, the purse is already made, but broken...therefore, that would be "fixing". They were rude and suggested that I used a LIGHTER to fix a designer purse...I've always heard good things about this place which is why I went there in the first place but I will most likely not be going back for anything else. I've been going to Federico's for years for general re-soling of shoes, repairing a torn leather jacket, removing grass and mud stains from the heels and edges of satin sandals, and for supplies like shining and protectorant products, shoe inserts, etc. Well, I recently took in a 12"x10" crossbody Dooney & Bourke bag that was beautiful but had a design flaw: a skinny strap that dug into my shoulder, and two buckles, one of which was upside down... (I bought it online). Ok, so I took the bag in to see if the strap could be replaced with a wider one. I met with Jose and he told me he could custom dye a wider strap to match the brown leather exactly. I picked up the bag last night and it's gorgeous! Federico's has always done exceptional work and Jose is the consummate professional gentleman. Needless to say, I highly recommend them. Mediocre customer service; I always feel like I'm walking on eggshells in this place. If you know what you want, you come in and get it, and then leave. These people are no-nonsense. I have seen them be short with other people, and they've been a little cold with me too. I will say that they know their stuff and they stock decent products. If you need Lincoln shoe polish in Marine Cordovan (hey, that's a difficult color to get) they've got it. If you need suede protection spray, they've got it. Based on customer service alone, I rate this shop only a 1 star....they have a real lack of communication and as I read the other reviews, it is not getting any better. They may do good shoe repairs and embroidery work, but that is not all that is important. How about a phone call when the job is ready, like they told me they would call? How about letting the customer know what to expect or not expect? Very frustrated when I had to re-package my items, in the same manner they were when I dropped them off, which is what I expected. Had this not been their policy, again communication would be nice. They had just shoved my items in a box and handed them back to me. Now, how professional is that? The "I'm sorry you were not happy with the job" statement just doesn't get it. read more

I am a fan of Federico's. I dropped off a pair of Uggs today that were splitting along the top seam. I was greeted with a smile and an assurance they can fix them. They need to be "hand sewn". They'll be ready tomorrow by 2:PM. What else can I ask for. Oh, it's gonna cost $15. I think that's a good deal cause new Uggs would be a heck of a lot more. Not my first visit here. I'll give them 2 stars because the work was decent and done on time. Not being a drive-up window person, I walked into the store and both times, coming and going, experienced very poor customer service. And this is from what appears to be the folks who run the business. I punch a register for a living and these days more-than-ever, I'm ecstatic to ring up a customer--or even see one for that matter. These folks give the stink-eye through the glass until one of them finally gets up to wait on you with an attitude that makes you want to run around barefoot. The store was empty and they weren't seriously involved in shoe repair at this time, so waiting on me wasn't a difficult conflict. And this isn't the first time I've noted their poor attitudes, although it is now my last. PLEASE-unless you folks are making too much money, try being human with your customers, even if you have to fake it.; we aren't getting paid to be there...YOU are! I'll find a new repair shop; however, consider this review as a tip. Grumpy curmudgeons went out of business with the dot com bust and I don't see this business model making a come-back any time too soon. read more

I've been coming to this place for many years and they can fix everything. They do an amazing job - I have name brand purses and you can't even tell that it was fix. I just brought my expensive Birkenstock leather sandal to get the sole replaced. I'll be picking it up this week and I bet it would look as new. read more

Update to original review: In addition to great customer service (see my earlier review), they do a very good job of repairing shoes. I took a pair in, and they did a tip-top job of fixing them up. I have another pair that needs new heels (why is it that all men's dress shoes I've ever bought need new heels within a month?), and I'll be taking them in to Federico's. (Mini-update: took them in. When I picked them up, I used the drive-through window--and they remembered me! Great work on the shoes, though I had to take them back to get them to buff out the black smudges on my oxblood shoes.) I want to repeat how incredibly pleased I am with the American-made Lincoln shoe polish they stock! I have tried numerous brands, and none of them can hold a candle to the beautiful glow Lincoln shoe polish makes. However, I am disappointed that their shoes brushes are all imported rather than American-made. Anyway, this is where to go locally for shoe repair. I've tried the rest; now you can skip them and go straight to the best! read more

Federico's messes up time and time again. I always give them another chance because my family has been using them for 15+ years, but this is the last time I or anyone in my family will EVER use Federico's. The quality gets worse and worse each year that passes. I dropped off my leather boots asking them to be re-soled because I was wearing a hole through the bottom of each foot. After I picked them up and arrived home, I looked at the boots. They had added a quarter inch to the heel (which was completey fine before), and DIDNT EVEN FIX THE SOLE/GAPING HOLE at the ball of the foot on each boot! $20 for an added quarter inch on something that I didn't even need. And I still have the holes on each boot! HOW DID THE PERSON WORKING ON THESE BOOTS IGNORE THE TWO GIANT HOLES?!? Did I need to sit next to them and babysit them to make sure it was done correctly? How did the manager/cashier not check to make sure these were done correctly? Shame on me for trusting them to do it right and for not checking in the store. Save your money and go somewhere else. The quality is steadily going downhill. read more

Highest quality work. Respectful and honest staff. Extremely experienced and very well priced. I have taken three sets of shoes here of different textures and levels of disrepair and the the quality of the work is second to none. However, you need to ensure you call them prior to the expected completion date because they have only completed the work on time once and called me to let me know they were going to be late once. If you are in the area, it is absolutely the place to go. But make sure to call before date of pickup. read more

My favorite pair of leather boots were extra squeaky, so much so that random strangers would comment on them as I was walking down the street. Jose spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was making them squeak. He told me to drop the boots off and when I came to pick them up, they no longer squeaked and they were beautiful (not sure what he did to them, but they are like new)!
