FE Trailer's just built me a new trailer for my 1994 Ski Nautique... and it's AWESOME. It's been in front of my house for 2 days, and I can't believe how many compliments I've gotten from neighbors. The problem was due to the leaf spring being too close to the brake line connection on the brake drum. This is my 3rd trailer for my Mobil screen business, however, this is by far the best trailer I've ever had. FE Trailer did such a quality job I'm at a loss for all the adjectives describing how good of job they did. Everything from the welding, diamond plate, suspension and powder coat is top notch. This trailer tows behind my truck so much nicer than any other trailer I've ever owned. The attention to detail was spot on. I brought my trailer in for an inspection of the lights as well as bearings and brakes. First impression was good. I mentioned at the time I dropped it off that the brake lights likely had a short, and asked if that could get checked out. I received a quote a day or so afterwards, which included replacing one of my tires that they said was flat. I asked if I could have one of the mechanics do a walk around to explain the suggested repairs. The front office girl said she was a mechanic, and would go through everything with me. I thought that was odd, as she wasn't going to do the repairs, but agreed. When we got to my boat, no flat tire. She must have mixed my boat up with someone else's. The quote included 2 new brake lights with labor totaling over $300, which I thought was a bit much. I asked if and how they evaluated the short that I had mentioned as likely being the problem, and she said they (the actual mechanic who does the repairs that I asked to do the walkaround with) took a battery and checked each light individually, and that they were out. When I left my house, one side worked, and one didn't, but was told they don't install only one. I also questioned why I was getting new zinc plated lug nuts that would rust just like the ones that were on the wheels already, and she said they don't put the old ones on new work. Also thought that was my choice, but I guess not. After discussing the totals and agreeing to do an upgrade on the bearing caps, I went forward with the repairs, although slightly frustrated with buying 2 new brake lights when only one was possibly not working as well as paying for lug nuts that will rust after one or two uses. I got a call that the work was done shortly afterwards, and right as I was driving down my street to pick it up, my phone rings, and it's the shop telling me that the 7 pin plug likely has a short, and the lights were not functioning! They said they'd gladly replace it for me, for another $200! I refused and said I'd be replacing it myself. I could not believe what I was being told! On the day of pickup, after over $300, and me asking if the electrical system was checked for shorts, and told they did, magically, there was a short. When I arrived, paid the bill, and connected my trailer, the same light was out as was before. This indicated that neither of the lights needed changing, and that a short was the problem the whole time. I was so irritated! At no point did the "mechanic" apologize, admit they had made a mistake, or offer anything to reconcile them obviously not checking for a short, and jumping to the highest priced option for a repair. I asked again, right before I drove off if the new lights had been op checked, and she said she did a walk around herself and saw them all functioning. I got home, and to put the icing on the cake on this debacle, I noticed that the shop had installed the wrong bearing covers! One of the new running lights had wires hanging down, and wasn't even connected, which would mean that, if the final walkaround had been done, (she said she saw all the lights working) she would have clearly noticed the wrong equipment being installed! No way that walkaround was done. So, I fixed the short in the wire on the 7 pin plug in 10 minutes myself, with a total cost of .50 cents. Magically, all the lights worked then. I drove my trailer back again, 2 weeks later, and they installed the right parts. Picked it up today, and still not a word or apology about the mix up, 6 trips to and from their shop, or any offer to make it right with a small discount, a few bucks for the wasted gas, or anything else. We are human, and make mistakes. Admitting when that happens alleviates 90% of the issue. Seeking to make a clearly messed up situation better in any way would have also kept me from writing a negative review and telling the multitude of fisherman and boaters that I know to never go to this shop. Yes yes, I know. This is not a review of food. What's wrong Ed? Well, I've gotta give credit where credit is due. This place does GREAT WORK, so I want to provide an authentic review from a customer. The ups: I use a Kendon folding trailer to transport my motorcycles to and from the track (supermoto FTW!). I bought it used, and got a great deal on it, but unfortunately it had some wear and tear items that needed mending. A spare wheel was affixed to the bottom of the trailer, and I couldn't get it off (pegs were bent). The hitch was locked into place and wouldn't connect to the ball, I couldn't get the removable jack stand connected, and the brake lights were old and not working properly. Needless to say, Matt and the folks at FE Trailer took care of all these issues, including welding the jack stand mount in place (much more stable) and installing new LED brake lights (that can probably be seen from space) which make my rig way safer, especially at night. All for a great price, and quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to a friend. The downs: It's in Lakeside, so a bit of a trek from San Diego, but otherwise, no major issues. If you've got a big trailer I could see the parking lot being difficult to navigate. ***Yelp bottom line*** If you've got a trailer that needs work, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend FE Trailers in Lakeside. They do custom work to, so if you can dream it, they can probably do it, for a price. read more

So its Wednesday and I am driving my trailer from my warehouse to my home to get ready for a weekend of work. And all of a sudden my lights are NOT working. I have been here before a couple times for axel services but never anything else. I pull in and explain that I need some work done. They tell me their swamped and the wait is like 2 weeks. Now keep in mind they didn't know the extent of what I had on my hands. Once I explained the running lights were not working and I needed my work trailer for the weekend, the guy at the counter goes out into the bay and gets someone to look at my trailer right off the bat. As it turn out it was some warn cables not making the connection. He says " if you can do this now, pull it in and we will have you out in under an hour". And I am like... REALLY?!!! These guys just saved me!!! And I can attest to the fact they were swamped because of all that was going on in front of me. I didn't ask them to do this they just stepped up and made it happen. I don't know if I can suitably express my gratitude in just a simple review. Everyone I met and talked with at FE Trailers was incredibly nice, professional, and knew what they were talking about. Here's a brief outline of what led me to take my trailer to their shop. I have a 44' 5th Wheel enclosed car hauler (and yes, it fits in their shop!) that needs an axle replaced. Simple enough, right? Not quite. I had a 2 week timeline to replace the axle with axles that were not specifically built for my trailer. Therefore, FE Trailers had to come up with some way to mount these axles to my trailer, and they came up with something in 2 days from the time I dropped it off. They even thought enough about me to use just bolts, so I can easily put the correct axle in later and remove this one. They can even weld this mounting bracket in to make it stronger. Overall, I am incredibly impressed with their service and ability to take on a job that no one else would. I will be driving this trailer down to them (a 1300 mile each way road trip) for future modifications as they have shown incredible work and diligence. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! Just got back from Lakeside with my new trailer. I talked to all of the big four locally and settled on FE Trailers due to service and price. Alan drove up to Orange from San Diego County to spend an hour crawling around my garage and under my boat to make sure it was a good fit for my needs and space issues. Trailer came out great, tows fantastic and they put on all the bells I was looking for and a very reasonable price. They also told me it would be a couple of hours to fit my boat to the trailer and they were done in 45 minutes. He ended up lowering the boat on the trailer to make it easier to get in and out of the garage, widened the stance, put a torsion axle and Vault hubs with a 5 year warranty that can be extended out to 10 if wanted. Swing tongue, LED all around and cables instead of chains. Very nice set up and really holds the boat well to the trailer. I would not hesitate to recommend these folks to others. read more

I went over dealt with their so called manager Matt who's very unprofessional and apparently does not know how to complete an estimate ... I told him what I needed done on my ez loader galvanized trailer and he e-mails an estimate with half the stuff missing I was asking another worker questions like who's the owner ? And is Matt the manager and the worker was reluctantant to answer, I wonder what are they hiding? cause Matt became defensive, Awful in returning calls and obviously has no experience in managing his schedule...nor giving customers answers up front. I had FE build a new trailer to replace a trailer that had seen way too many Baja back roads under my Gregor Baja special. I tried out the new trailer today and it was a joy to use, Even with a stiff crosswind the boat went onto the trailer with ease. I found the trailer also tracks well on the road and is in general well built and setup, I didn't find anything that needed correction or improvment. All in all I feel like I got my moneys worth and then some with this trailer. I found the staff at FE to be great, Very professional and helpful, I felt very comfortable dealing with them. read more

Took a tandem boat trailer into FE for an axle service and safety check. They were disorganized, couldnt recall prior conversations or locate a wheel I had dropped off two days earlier. They promised the service would be done on a certain day and struggled to meet that deadline. Subsequently we have found that not only did they not perform the safety check, they left the trailer braking system low on fluid and in an anything but safe condition. Further, we had asked that the spare tire holder be repaired. They stated it was irreperable and sold us a second wheel carrier. Another trailer repair facility repaired it without much trouble. I dont like leaving negative info, but I fee that FE put us in position to tow our boat in an unsafe condition, the whole reason you have someone repair your trailer is to avoid this situation. read more

This place was awesome; I found it just by looking up trailer repair in San Diego. I recently got a motorcycle trailer that needed some work done - fix up the wiring, unbend some bent bolts, fix the hitch mechanism. Brought it to F.E., Matt quoted me a price (to include some new hi-viz LED tail lights at nearly half the cost of the factory), and got it all done fairly and quickly. The trailer's now good as new, and I've got some of the brightest brake lights one could ask for. Not sure where the 1 star review came from (I looked at that person's reviews and they're about 75% 1 star negative reviews), but the crew at FE were professional and with good communications.
