While zipping along I-85 as Mrs. K. and I headed back toward Charlotte, I asked her what she wanted for dinner. Instead of saying "I don't know," she said, "How about Olive Garden?" I replied, "OK." No argument. For what it was, the experience was excellent. Parking was easy, the hostess greeted us warmly and seated us right away, the table was clean, and our waitress appeared promptly. The music was heavy on Frank Sinatra but not too loud. We ordered drinks and were ready to place our dinner order. Within minutes, the familiar big bowl of salad arrived along with breadsticks. Before we had finished the first serving of salad, our main courses were delivered. Mrs. K. chose the fettucine alfredo. The portion was generous, creamy, and visually appealing. Unfortunately, it was bland. As we have learned, this is not an Anderson SC problem. It is an Olive Garden problem. They simply do not season or salt very much, if at all. The pasta was cooked and presented well, but the flavor was missing. My main course was spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta itself had no flavor and was overcooked, but the meat sauce was surprisingly good. The three meatballs were nicely sized, tasty, and cooked properly. I enjoyed the dish and even used a second breadstick to mop up the sauce. Overall, Olive Garden met my expectations. It was decent, though bland. Dough is kind of a cross between toast and an overdone pan pizza.. It's all really a shame because I live in Patrick Square and walking distance from this place. I went once before, just for a pizza, and the dough was the same. The restaurant was clean, kind of loud, and there is a nice sports bar in the back with a friendly bartender and a lot of TVs. So they get a second star.
