DINNING OUT. STEPPING OUT RVing Today we ate in a restaurant for the first time since mid March (60 days) and that was on the patio. It's a long time family owned restaurant in the historic town of Gainesboro Tennessee. It was a long skinny restaurant with booths lining both sides with no tables in the center and every other booth was closed off. The lady wore gloves, wash them often with sanitizer and also change the gloves often. We watch her sanitizethe every bit of the table and booth when people left. Everything on the table was new. Ketchup came to you in a little containers, no salt and pepper shakers but a salt and pepper packets. Same with cream and sugar, silverware came in a little bag, Nothing another customer could've touched. Also plastic between you and the cashier. Felt very safe eating there.. I had chicken fried steak, two eggs over easy with chopped taters and a biscuit and gravy. I forgot to take the picture before I messed my plate up, but it was one of the best chicken fried steaks I've had in about 10 years. And get this, it was only $6.50. I've paid $18 for the same meal, but of course served with fancy silverware and a white table cloth. And the lady was so nice. But I think that's the norm in Tennessee. We noticed the young men coming in to pick up takeout orders using yes ma'am and thank you ma'am. I hope my California rudeness didn't show through. Definitely going back. Thank god for Xplr Nashville! I saw his review of this spot and went the same day. I almost passed…read moreit looking for a stand alone restaurant but it is in the same building as the gas station. When you walk in, you order to the right, next to the drink cooler. They have a smallish seating area with a bar, plenty of space for a sandwich shop, and a big screen tv that was showing a Back to the Future movie. We ordered: - BLT (Thursday it is the Thursday special and comes with fries and a drink for $12) - Cheesesteak (obviously) with onions, with cheese wiz as the Lord intended - Mozzarella Jawns - I've never heard of that before but they're a very wide, sorta flatish cheese stick. I think they are named after an app from Bar Jawn in Manayunk (a Philadelphia neighborhood). Took it to go. It comes with house made chips and I ate those most of the way home. I'm normally not a fan of house made kettle style chips but these were great! Too salty for my husband but just right for me so your mileage may vary. The hot out of the fryer mozzarella and fries did not fare well on the 12 minute drive home but when I got to the house I popped them in the air fryer and they crisped back up to perfection. My husband had the BLT and he said it was delicious. The bacon was a little more crisp than he does it for himself but that's a personal preference thing. The tomatoes and lettuce were very fresh. As a BLT aficionado, he was a fan. The real star here was the cheesesteak. My husband said "this is better than the cheesesteaks I've had in Philadelphia" and he was not wrong. The meat was cooked perfectly, chopped and tender. Seasoned but not so much that the onions couldn't shine. Onions were browned and lightly softened, not soggy. The bread was delicious, soft and soaked in their homemade cheese wiz. Their cheese wiz? A national treasure. If I could order it by the tub I would and I'd never struggle to get my kids to eat their veggies again. It's that good. The whole thing was a 12/10. I have pictures but they're blurry because I couldn't sit the sandwich down long enough to photograph it so I'll rely on others for that. TL;DR - Go get a cheesesteak.

Customization is standard at most delicious, but it seems to be frowned on here. No chips or pickle spear served with the sandwiches, even at $10+ for a HALF sandwich. And they forgot about the fries we ordered - even after I reminded the chef when he delivered the sandwiches. Tasty food but very expensive and they sure didn't seem to care that they goofed up our order. Yes, they reluctantly reversed the charge on the fries, but somehow they seemed upset with us for mentioning the omission. Sorry, but at these prices we'll just go elsewhere.

We were not bothered by that but some people may certainly be bothered by it. The waitress came to the table and asked if we needed a menu, she brought silverware and asked us what we wanted to drink. It appeared there was one waitress and one cook. We brought our drinks and asked what we wanted to eat and I said I wanted to pancakes with bacon and the I said are you sure are pancakes are really large as she motioned to about the size of a plate. I said yes I want two of them and I could have done without the eye roll at not taking her suggestion. The hubby ordered biscuits and gravy, eggs, hash browns, and sausage. She brought out our meal and asked if we needed more coffee or tea. It was a good breakfast and there was plenty of food to eat. We left there satisfied and I am sure when we are back in the Celina, Tennessee area we will stop in here again.

They have plenty of seating. I should also mention that their menu is so good it left me torn on what to order. Despite the crowd and influx of orders, I thought the service was fast. The team works like sandwich ninjas, slicing meat and slathering spread, which was fun to watch. I ordered 'The Veggie,' while my husband got 'La Paradiso.' The focaccia tasted extremely fresh: crusty on the outside with a prominent flavor of EVOO, and soft on the inside. A very well-rested dough, I'd assume! As delicious as the bread was, the eggplant, stracciatella, and pistachio cream were out of this world. Oh my god, just heavenly! The size is ginormous; I split it into lunch and dinner. Considering the quality and sourcing of these ingredients, along with the fact that it covered two meals for me, I felt these sandwiches were quite economical. I have a long way to go before I try all their sandwiches

All three people behind the counter greeted me enthusiastically and with big smiles when I walked in. I perused the menu and opted for La Toscana. While I was waiting, I was enticed by the beautiful display of delicious and fresh ingredients in the display case. Every sandwich is made to order, but they worked very quickly so I didn't have to wait long. Overall the sandwich was excellent. In particular the Truffle Honey really took it over the top in terms of great flavors. I did feel that the focaccia was a bit too crispy, at least to my taste. I'm not sure if this was a one-off issue or if this is how they always make the bread. I would have preferred the focaccia to be quite a bit softer, but maybe that's just my personal preference. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but it was a very hot day so I stayed inside with the air conditioning. The place is really clean with some nice decor. The experience was really good, and I would certainly recommend this as a great sandwich shop with excellent Italian ingredients. I'll just hope for softer focaccia next time.
