After living on the East Coast for a few years, I became of the mindset that antique stores fell into one of two categories: The first is the museum-like antique shop. With a very limited selection and sky-high prices, don't even bother looking; you won't be able to afford anything but the disdainful stares of the owner. The second is the antique store garbage dump store. It smells, things are piled every which way, and everything is filthy dirty. It's cheap but you are pretty sure that something may have died in there and you feel a little dirty just looking. So having said all of this, I come now to Father Time Antiques. This store falls into neither of the aforementioned categories. Father Time is spacious, well-lit and without a pungent odor. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The store's offerings, via many different vendor booths, displays and cases, are diverse and reasonable-prized. A great place for vintage and antique furniture, lighting, jewelry, glassware, knickknacks and just about everything in-between. I love junkin or visiting antique shops. I've been in this one a number of times but since I'm traveling I can't but anything that wouldn't fit in my luggage. They have a plethora of items to browse around. From beer taps, old wind up phones, football jerseys, glassware, beer paraphernalia, hats, decanters, artworks, to skis & paddles. Although the quality of most items is very good, prices tend to be on the high side. read more

Antique overload! We could have spent hours digging around here if we'd had the time. Someone called it controlled chaos, which is appropriate. While full, it never really feels cluttered. They make good use of every inch of space. I collect Looney Tunes items and my wife likes everything Snoopy. I managed to pick up a couple items I had been looking for. read more

This hidden gem in Canal Park is one of the most fun shops to visit in Duluth. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They truly do have every antique you can think of. From toys, movies and video games. To collected cards, coins and cutlery. That's just the tip of the iceberg though. Talking with employees they enjoy working there to pass the time and talk with people, while customers enjoy looking at what they have and finding hidden treasures. Father Time Antiques is an average or slightly above average antique mall. My wife and I scheduled 2 days to checkout every antique store in Duluth and in Superior. Everyone told us that we HAD to check out Father Time. "They're expensive but they're the best," they said. Based on positive comments, Father Time was our first stop and my wife & I weren't very impressed. I didn't think they were very expensive. And I didn't think they were that great. Never in a million years would I make a trip away from the antiques available in Minneapolis & St. Paul to visit this place in the future. In addition, after 2 days shopping, I found that every other antique store in Duluth was a downhill experience, much worse than Father Time. I'd come to Duluth again for many things but I wouldn't come to Duluth for antique stores. Father Time is definitely in a primo location on Lake Avenue...near a bunch of nice shops and super close to the lake. But when you get down to the nuts & bolts of the merchandise, it's really just an average antique mall. I'd estimate that around 10% of the items are either reproduction merchandise or modern used stuff (1980s or newer). The rest of the real antiques are run of the mill with a few little gems here & there, depending on your interests. Not much for the serious antique collector in the $100 (and up) and the $1000 (and up) price range. On the positive side, the shop is very clean, bright, organized, colorful, and everything is displayed nicely. We bought a few things. An interesting and vast antique mall! Lots of nooks and crannies to check out, with hidden gems to be found abound. I thought the prices were very reasonable, compared to what we see around Chicagoland- for example I'm used to seeing light up beer signs and clocks well over $100 around us, here they were around $40 from multiple vendors. It's easy to get lost and spend a lot of time perusing here. I would recommend it! read more

What a great way to spend a lofty Saturday afternoon!!! This antique market is various booths rented out by antique enthusists. You're going to find everything from crystal doorknobs and old household hardware to fine china and collector's dolls. This is a well organized, well run store with helpful staff. It's an absolute indoor flea market in here. The entrance is unassuming and leads you into an absolute CAVERN of kitsch as well as some interesting items. It just boggles my mind that they have an actual section devoted to those Canadian quintuplets, and troll dolls. I walked around *literally* LOL. read more

I love this place- great products, great people, and a wonderfully kind and helpful staff. It's a really wonderful place to lose yourself in history for a while. Don't plan on making it in and out in 15 minutes, allow more time to look at everything- it's all wonderful and unique- and you won't regret it. :) read more

My husband and I visited the store the first weekend in October and was helped by a lady and a gentleman for 2 different items that we ended up purchasing. We asked if they negotiated and with great pleasure both people said yes. We liked our experience so much we decided to take my mother this weekend. She was interested in a piece and asked the women at the counter ( one sitting, stuffing her face with a hotdog and the other standing there having a deep discussion with the one eating the hotdog ) if there was a discount, she was told no, they don't bargain at this shop. Hmmmm, I thought that to be interesting because we were just there last week. I went up and asked her if the rules had changed from the last weekend, she stated that if you pay with cash or check you get 10%, but that is all, I again asked if that had changed from last weekend and she stated that the rule has been in effect for a long time, but some people "don't follow the rules".. so in conclusion, expensive place, but if you get the "right" person, you might get a deal.
