Father and Son Construction installed a bathtub for me. On the contract it indicated that cleanup was $800. The only cleanup that was performed was by my son and myself. An evaluation card was sent to me to be completed. I wore on the card how upset I was that a cleanup fee was charged and I did the clean. On May 14th I received a $25 dollar gift card since my evaluation was pulled for the month. I immediately sent the card back indicating I didn't want the card due to the charged cleanup fee. Today I received a call from the man who wrote the contract and he indicated that he made a mistake, that the contract should have stated completion not cleanup. He then told me if I talked to anyone about this and told them I was charged a clean up fee when my son an I did the cleanup I would be "telling a FIB". In closing, I wish I could give 0 stars, I do not recommend this company. read more

Matt, the owner answered my comment but I would like to correct something. The contract, hand written in states CLEANUP. There was no trailer sent the last day to remove debris. A trailer was sent the third day to remove a few pieces of drywall. When I have had major work done hawking away trash was included in cost, not a separate cleanup fee. Furthermore, debris was placed behind my garbage bin so my son would have to clean it up and place it in my garbage bin. Garbage bags were left in my bathroom when the work day was complete, my son had to throw those out into our garbage bin. I had to sweep and clean the bathroom at night. The final day I washed down the bathtub, the walls surrounding the tub. They did absolutely no cleanup. Once again, in the breakdown of payments it specifically states "CLEANUP $800. To have my integrity impugned by the man who wrote the contract (he admitted he used the wrong word" and to be called a fibber if I call this a cleanup fee is beyond belief. I did receive an apology from the owner for the way the situation was handled by their employee but, that doesn't resolve the fact that I paid $800 for a task that wasn't done. read more

Kip comes today and says they are backed up for at least 3 months. So no work could begin until November If you are running 3 months out, you should say that in the phone when Setting up an estimate. Showed up on time and walked around my house and surprisingly told me it would cost 29,500$$ to replace approximately 900 square feet of siding. I just got a copy of HomePros Guide in the mail with an advertisement for this company. It prompted me to leave a review. A number of years ago I called to get a quote for an electrical line to be run from my pool to an open circuit in preparation for a heat-pump to be installed for my pool. The salesman kept telling me how much he liked teachers (I was one at the time) and then quoted me over $5,600 to dig a 108 foot trench for the conduit from the pump to the house. I used Father and Son to address problems with the front door trim and casing. They replaced all the wood and rebuilded the old design. 3 years later and the paint has peeled and most of the trim molding is rotten. They didn't properly sealed the joints or painted correctly and water made is way through and under the remaining paint. I don't usually post reviews but i'm extremly unhapy about how this turned out. Dont ever hire these people!! Crooks!! They are putting my parents through hell with this renovation. A 3 month job has been almost a year. At almost a year mark were only 75% done and most of the work has to be re done!! Several years ago and when I lived in Detroit, I called Father & Sons to get an estimate on window replacements for the house I owned. I was quite able to pay for the service even though I was divorced. The woman I spoke to set up a day and time for someone to come and give me an estimate. She called a day or so prior to the scheduled time to remind me of the appointment. I didn't need a reminder since I was looking forward to meeting with them. At the end of the conversation she told me to make sure "my husband" would be present. I informed her that I was divorced and I would be the person making any decisions. She said that would be fine. On the scheduled day, I waited and waited but nobody showed up. When I inquired as to why, I was told that they wouldn't come out unless my "husband" would be present to sign any contracts. I reminded them that I was not married, so she said they wouldn't be able to do any work for me. I will never forget that, and will NEVER hire, nor recommend their company for anything. read more

I had F&S put an addition on my home a few years back. It was off the rear of the home and I had them wire it with 220 so I could potentially add a hot tub at a future date. This also required them to put a fan vent in the ceiling. After they finished I started to get water stains on the ceiling after rain. I called them and informed them and they repeatedly told me it was a condensation issue above the ceiling insulation due to the vent and I'd just have to accept it. They told me many additions with ceiling vents had that problem and there wasn't much they could do about it. I wasn't buying it, the extent of the water damage seemed much more than just condensation and I insisted they come out and look at it. They did, and found the roof flashing around the chimney was installed improperly so it allowed rain water to seep in instead of being wicked-out onto the roof tiles. They had subcontracted the roof installation as well as the electrical. I also had issues with the electrical work being finished before the wallboard and ceiling went up. That turned into some rancor between F&S and the electrical subcontractor with me in the middle-eventually was resolved. The chimney flashing was repaired properly very quickly and no more water seepage issue, but I had to repaint my ceiling where the water intrusion had stained it. F&S does good work for the price where THEY do the work, I will give them that. The addition structurally is high quality work and I am quite happy with it. But their subcontractors didn't show the same attention to detail. Installing flashing properly is pretty basic for a roofing company, no excuse for that mistake. I've had 6-8 full roofs put on my homes over the years and this was the only issue I had with water intrusion. I wasn't happy that F&S kept insisting it was just a condensation issue instead of just coming out and taking a look at it. When they finally did it took 5 minutes for them to find the improper flashing. My advice to F&S is not to subcontract things like roof and walls/ceilings, you can do that work and when YOU do it you stand behind the quality. Electrical I understand is more difficult-that's specialized work. But open rancor between main contractor and subcontractor in front of a customer doesn't market your services well for the next job. I will give them a 'Good' rating because the finished product met my expectations and they did the work quickly and kept me posted on their progress, but I think they could have been more accommodative when I initially made the complaint-instead of assuming it was a less significant issue. read more

Hired them to add on a master suite to our home for my aging mother. They also remodeled an existing bathroom in my home. They did a beautiful job! Every worker who entered my home - from the carpenters, electricians, roofers, plumbers, to the painters - all super nice and very professional. After my addition was almost completed I hired them to add a new covered porch on the front! It's so beautiful! My project manager, Mat, was fabulous, and our salesman- even the blueprint guy was great! Very happy with the whole experience! I would highly recommend them. read more

The exterior does not hold paint and is already beginning to rot. I regret not having them tear them down the day they were built. I was horrified to see the location they placed these dormers. I was really hoping I would be able to get past the imperfections and grow to like them. They also raised the price $200 from the time I got the estimate to the time I signed the contract. The cost savings was not worth the unsightly end result. read more

Needed to have a 12" overhang added to the back of our house. Called around and decided to go with F&S. Everything went as planned from start to finish. Timetables were kept. Vince, the project supervisor came out for every stage of the job. Ziggy, the roofer, Jan the trim and finisher and Steve and Steve the gutter guys were all very professional and polite. All the crews did a great job and none of them left a mess. So far no issues. Much nicer than the Mulligan job we had done a few years ago. read more

This company is AWFUL, I wish they had negative stars...We hired this company back in 1998 to do an addition to our home. We have had nothing but issues with our roof since they did it...when doing the roof they didn't even put any tar paper under the shingles...for years we have had shingles fly off that we have had to replace, no tar paper under the shingles ...Father & Son did the roof on the new addition and we had another company do the roof on the existing part of the house and have never had an issue with the part the other company did...Now 20 years later the part of the roof that meets up where the other company did the roof is now leaking...the part of the roof that Father & Son has done that meets the older part of the home, the wood is rotting and looks horrible and is leaking into our home...DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY...even on the inside where they added the floor to the existing floor they couldn't even match the level...the floor dips and when we complained about it they said it was impossible to match it up...The only reason the Father & Son part of the roofing has lasted for 20 years is because my Husband has consistently had to repair THEIR MISTAKES...I'm writing this review 20 years later because I am fed up with all the issues with our roof. I hate to do it, but I have to. *Sigh. We contacted a number of contractors to look at our kitchen including Father and Son. They showed up which should have given them 2 stars, but the second appointment was so horrid it made me scared to do our project. On the appointment the guy had a price, but when he got to our house he couldn't remember what they were doing. He didn't know what cabinets we wanted. He wasn't sure about the KIND of counter tops. Why? Because it was never discussed. He forgot that we were keeping our appliances. About mid-way through him bumbling through his "proposal" I wondered....Hmmmmm, what is his price based on? I think he just based it on our budget???? Not sure. He had one brochure for us to thumb through but he had spilled something on it and he was peeling apart the pages like you would a sticky magazine. The best part was at the end he asked for the job. God love him for having the guts...but he did not have the job. All of that said, we did not have work done by them - which is why I hesitate to write about the company. More like "Liar & Crook Construction" My encounter happened in 2016 and I cannot believe I didn't sit down to write my experience until now. Finally, here's what happened. I contacted this company for a quote for an addition & someone named Kip contacted me. He tries hard to be charming (but makes it him more creepy than charming). He swore heaven and sky that they can do the addition for about $80/SqFt so my total cost should be about $65K. Every other company said it would be around $100/SqFt. He also said they have in-house architect who does all the design so that things will go smoothly. But when I sat down to sign a basic contract, just before we started filling up the documents he said "our design can only be used with us". Being 1st time homeowner this should have been my warning shot and I should have ran from there like mad. But I didn't. I gave a $1000 check as an advance for the design. Then after a week a guy named "Mike Corrado" showed up. He said he is the architect/designer and took measurements. We talked about my design needs and the price per sqft and he said Kip knows all about it. But after 3-4 weeks I demanded a rough draft, but Mike was "really busy". Finally in 6th week Kip showed me a design that was 1/2 the Sq ft of what we wanted. When I asked what the hell going on, Kip called Mike and he said that is what can be done for for $64K, because for 1SqFt would cost $100. Otherwise, to do what I wanted it would costs $80K or more. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I asked Kip what the hell Mike is talking. Then this old $cum-bag said "I never said $80/SqFt. It is $100". At this point I get rid of him, because otherwise I might have done something I would regret later. I thought of going after these crooks for my $1000 advance. But I did not have any written proof that says they initially promised $80/SqFt. Plus I was to go on a long vacation and was occupied with that. So for anyone thinking hiring these crooks, you have been warned. Also, 1 more thing is that this company not listed in Angie's List. That should have been my 2nd warning. read more

They did not start the job when promised, here we are 1 week from the day they were supposed to start and nothing has been done, with the exception of me paying over half of the contract estimate as agreed. I wanted to like Father and Son, however they did not give me a chance. * Summary (read below for full details) *: Got a written estimate/Didn't stick to written pricing/changed timing multiple times/never responded to my requests. I was getting estimates done to replace my aluminum siding with vinyl. Father and Song were one of the 3 companies I quoted. The sales guy came out and did a quote. This quote included gutters, vinyl siding, trim, and shutters. The total price was around$12,500, which was pretty close to my max budget. I decided to go with Father and Son, and called the sales guy back to tell him I have chosen to go with their company. During that call, he informed me that he forgot to include shutters in the original price, and it would be an extra $1,500. I told him this was now over my total budget, and informed him that the quote he wrote me, did in fact have shutters listed on their with trim @ $2,800. He never acknowledged my message. Then, he informed me that he may have measured incorrectly for the vinyl, and wanted to come back out to re measure. I have him multiple times when I would be available. The sales guy said he would be there Monday around 10am, and when I called him around 11am that day, he told me he couldn't make it until Wednesday. After being jerked around by the sales guy for about 1 week on pricing, timing, etc (after I already told him I would award the business to F&S!), I took decided to escalate. Since the owner, Mat V. has responded to multiple negative reviews stating he wished the people would come to him for a chance to make it better, I did just that to give them the benefit of the doubt. I called the offices of F&S and asked for Mat, who at the time was unavailable. I left a message with the lady that answered the phone, and she said she could help me with my complaint. I told here my story for the past week, and she said she would call the sales guy and have him come out and measure again, to which I agreed. She called me back and told me Rob would be in touch to come re-measure. I explained to her again, that the measurements were not my main issue, and that I have a price, IN WRITING, which is the reason I went with F&S. At this point, the lady got a bit of an attitude and said some along the lines of "Well, he has to re-measure, in case he made a mistake. He will be in touch." * I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM ANYONE AT F&S. * IF THIS IS HOW THEY TREAT PEOPLE THAT HAVE ALREADY VERBALLY COMMITED TO HAVE THEM DO THE JOB, THEN IT IS NOT A COMPANY I WANT TO DEAL WITH. Unfortunately Father and son has not and will not be completing my remodeling. During my flooring portion of a more than $50,000 job, the flooring contractor sold his company. It took more than a year to get the new owners to come and correct the problem. The problem has been made worse. Now beside the floor being lumpy and unlevel, my wall has holes in it and the the sink was not correctly reinstalled. I was told there's nothing they can add o at this point because they are NOT in the flooring business any more. So do what i have to do. Wow, very disappointed. Horrible to work with - they would not honor their quote, tried to say they misquoted the job, but everything was in the quote that needed to be done. Wanted another $800.00. We went back and forth for 3 weeks, finally requested a refund by certified letter. It took 3 phone calls and a month later to receive our money - they said the check was in the mail and it wasn't their fault the post office didn't do their job. Ended up going to their office for the check. Found a wonderful company to do the job (small powder room on the first floor) for less money and much nicer people! When I got the estimate, it was a ridiculous figure with no breakdown. I asked for a breakdown and got a lot of grief "we don't do breakdowns" "this is why we don't work with insurance companies" (my job was not through insurance, I just wanted to know what in the world they had put in my quote) They finally gave me a semi-breakdown, which included $2,500 in plumbing ***there was no plumbing on my job!!!!!!! The whole thing was just very shady. Thereafter, I got a quote for the electrical portion of the job from an electrician. He quoted me 1/5 of the price that Father and Son quoted. We signed with Father and Son at the end of August 2012 to do Windows, Audi.g, trim , gutters and shutters. Another company beat their price...we cancelled, bit the salesman Darrin called us back and beat the price. The contract was ammended. Being assured the work would be done by end of September...we went w them. A few weeks went by....nothing. Supposedly they were waiting for a permit. Long story short....beginning of October...Darren called and said they couldn't do the work for the price quoted. He said they would pick up $500...the supplier would pick up $500...and we would only need to throw in another $1500. Really? I don't think so. Would not recommend this company. From the time the Estimated was provided (which they say is not an Estimate) until the final day the "job supervisor came out" - everything was not explained or back peddled. Quoted a "No Job to small" drywall repair. Flat rate was provided. Promised the job would start in 3 weeks - 4 weeks later I called 3 times on the 3rd time rec'd a call back saying - they were busy and they would get to me as quick as they can. When I didn't hear from anyone I called twice - once to check status then... once to cancel the contract. That got their attention. Got a call back and geez... they had to readjust their whole team to accommodate my request for a Saturday - the job was done in one day not 3. When the repair was done it took half the time and half the materials. I called for a credit and that is when the back peddling began. I was told that they offered their price based on a flat / base rate. (THAT was never explained during the initial estimate) - then I was told that that they used special bonding material which was more expensive and with that special bonding material they were able to do the job in one day. And that the three day quote was actually for an hour or so on day 2 and 3. I could go on and on....Each time I questioned someone I got another back peddle excuse.
