While providing a constant beat to drive to (and practice freestyle rapping) is was irritating as hell! I took it to another shop and they told me the tie-rods (?) were bad...had them replaced... WHUMP WHUMP! Went back and had new struts put on... WHUMP WHUMP! DAYUM! Finally something kicked in and I decided to find a local reputable company and I really hit the jackpot with Darrell's. Here's why: 1) I found them online and they had great reviews. We all know the power of a good review from happy customers! 2) After I performed my freestyle rap of what was wrong with the car, the owner Terry said "Okay, let's go drive it." What?!? I didn't realize that the other place never drove my car!! I was thrilled! 3) The diagnosis and suggested repair conversations were amazing! It was like a medical diagnosis from a really compassionate doctor. Even with the unexpected additional service I needed to get my car in tip-top shape, never once did I feel like I was being lied to or taken advantage of. Rented a car and came back to Darrell's at 8am and explained my symptoms. They knew exactly what it was likely to be (a suspension problem). I asked if it could be fixed on Friday so I could drive home. They did! And washed and detailed the car so when I picked it up Friday at 2:30 we could hit the road home confidently. After I pulled into the bay, where technicians work underneath the vehicle out of view, I was told my oil had already been drained before I received a final price or authorized the service. I was given multiple prices: $144, then $110 verbally, and the final paperwork showed $128. I explained that I only had $106 and was $22 short. The manager, Damen, kept my vehicle keys and would not release my car. He offered to arrange an Uber ride home but said I would have to find my own way back later to retrieve my vehicle after getting the money. My 14-year-old daughter and I remained at the location for about three and a half hours in the heat. I told staff that I am disabled, was becoming light-headed, and needed to eat. My concerns were not resolved. When the situation escalated, police and EMS responded. I was told EMS had received incorrect information that I had diabetes. The responding police officer ultimately paid the remaining $22 balance out of her own pocket so my vehicle could be released, and she signed the receipt, which I have kept. This was an extremely distressing experience. I encourage customers to ask for a written estimate, confirm the price before any work begins, and make sure all services are authorized before allowing repairs to proceed.

No accountability, no effort--nothing. On top of all that, their prices are higher than other places, which is honestly outrageous considering the terrible service. They spoke with Brandon at Import Auto Tech who obliged them with a container of anti-freeze, which they expected would be in the $15 to $20 range as it is almost EVERYWHERE else. He charged them $51 without even flinching. They were an easy target as their car was running hot and they didn't have a choice because they didn't want to ruin their car. They put in themselves, so it wasn't a labor charge. They told him they thought it was really over priced but it did no good. Do not recommend as they really took advantage.

I brought my car to Import Auto Tech in Gastonia, NC, for a 160-point inspection and to diagnose an…read moreoil leak. I dealt with the owner, Nicholas, the whole time. He told me the issue was an EGR cooler failure--the most expensive part at around $3,500. He also said he went out of his way to lower the price and that this was the lowest price possible. ​ At home, I checked the oil myself and it was well above the full line on the dipstick, both with the engine cold and after a short warmup and cooldown. I then called to complain, and I was told it would not harm the car to drive about 30 minutes back to them with the oil at that level. When I arrived, Nicholas first told me it only looked overfilled because the sides of the dipstick were picking up oil. I watched as he checked again and then acknowledged that it was in fact overfilled. I saw Nicholas remove close to a liter of oil to bring it back down. From my understanding, overfilling oil can increase the risk of leaks and other engine issues, which is especially concerning since I originally brought the car in for an oil leak. Despite the extra time, stress, and a second trip back, I was not offered any apology, discount, or other attempt to make things right. Based on this experience, I do not trust Import Auto Tech with my car and will not return

I had an oil change and tire rotation. it took 2.5-3.0…read morehours.... way too long ! after that my truck vibrated. so I took it back and asked for the tires to be rotated back and "inspected" ... they said tires looked ok I got home and inspected myself and found a tire that was very worn on the inside I took the truck back and asked to have this tire swapped with the spare and then my tires rotated I was told I would have to pay for the rotation even though I asked for the tires to be inspected and they were not inspected at all as it was very obvious! I would not have needed a 3rd trip at all if they had done the job right on the second trip . If that's how a tire inspection is done then I can't imagine inspecting anything else here ! I was told "we can't keep rotating your tires for free" I wouldnt need the original rotation done if they had inspected the tires properly as I had asked!
