Love the laid-back atmosphere and homey feel of the place. The food was all authentic and amazing tasting. This is definitely a local and good touristy spot. I would be here once a week if I lived close.

I can't believe I haven't left a review yet, I've been dropping in for years and it's a big recc to all the homies. The owners are sweeties, the menu is Guy Fieri approved, and I've never had a disappointing meal. I've tried the majority of their savory empanadas by now and the ham and cheese one is so underrated, I didn't grow up eating empanadas but the gooey melty of it just feels so nostalgic. You can pick these up to dine in or take out or you can request frozen and they'll send you home with oven and air fryer instructions, like feed me now and feed me later off a single trip. Do not miss out on their chimmichuri, either. The spicy adds an excellent kick to every one I've tried it with but I've bought jars of the mild to throw on different dishes at home, there's a great zest I can't quite place or replicate and it keeps me coming back for sure. They're closed on Sundays though! Big bummer since that's when I'm normally in the area but I just have to plan my other visits ahead for sure.

Ji've previously written a review on FTE and my love for their food. We ordered 5 dozen mini empanadas for our party tonight. Ordering online was easy and pick up was as scheduled. The crowd loved the empanadas and demanded referrals! FTE will become a staple in our entertaining lineup!!

Small family run business but gets very busy a once. They make their empanandas fresh. It came out steaming hot. With that said there was a wait. I think this place got popularized by featuring in triple D and featured one of Mike Chen's videos. I dont believe this family can handle the amount of customers they get when the place do get busy. They need to hire more people. These empanadas are big and meaty but were more on the salty side. We ordered the beef original, spicy beef and the ham. All were salty. I say the best was the spicy beef. We also ordered the desert ones which were smaller. You can skip the desert empanadas. We had the apple and peach. Both were dry and tasteless. It was a out of the way drive for us to get to try these empanadas. It is located in a less glamorous neighborhood out of the normal tourist area. We went to Ray's for puffy tacos than came here for the empanadas to go. Worth a try once but probably won't go back again.

Homemade Empanadas and Chimichurri Worth Coming Back For! Stopped in for a quick bite and left completely satisfied. The interior has a simple, almost vintage feel with its clean walls and old-school decor, making it a relaxed spot to grab lunch. What really stood out, though, was the warm, family-run vibe--seeing the youngest generation running the register was a nice touch that made the place feel even more welcoming. The real star of the show was the empanadas. You could tell right away they were homemade--crispy, golden-brown outside with a warm, gooey filling that was just perfect. I tried a few different kinds, and each one was packed with flavor. The dough was light but sturdy enough to hold everything together without falling apart. That balance is tough to get right, but they nailed it. The chimichurri sauce was also a standout--obviously homemade and bursting with fresh, garlicky flavor that paired perfectly with the empanadas. The fact that they offer multiple sauces is a nice touch, but honestly, I could have eaten everything with just that chimichurri and been perfectly happy. If you're a fan of homemade, hearty food that's made with care, do yourself a favor and stop by. Between the warm service, the incredible empanadas, and that chimichurri, I'll definitely be back to try more!

Diego took our order with such panache. He explained one of the items I didn't understand (raspas con queso--cheese, corn, and strips of pepper). Have not had fresh empanadas before. The dough was so flaky and crisp. Yum! Got a traditional beef, a spinach and cheese and the raspas con queso, which I liked the most. I'm new to chimchurri sauce, which added a bit of zing. My fiancé ordered traditional beef and cheese, raspas con queso, and split the spinach and cheese with me. He also enjoyed the raspas von queso, and mixed the two sauces, which gave it an amazing burst of flavor. Having been on Diners, Drive-Throughs, and Dives, the ambiance was simple and functional. I liked the old photos of San Antonio landmarks on the wall. It was lively when we were there about 1 pm on Saturday. Then it emptied out when I waited for some sweet empanadas to take home (half baked for further warming at home). Definitely going to return. Our server was the son of the founders, and I met Mom too. Love seeing the American Dream in action.

Guava and Cream Cheese Empanada (Sweet)

I've been a couple times before, but my coworker wanted to revisit this place for payday lunch (PDL). This spot is known for its Argentinian empanadas, commonly of the savory variety but also has sweet empanadas more common to other Latin cultures. Parking is a bit limited, so arrive with time! Also make sure to account for the fact that Commerce St is a one way street. A converted house, you walk up and place your order at the counter; seating is off to the right. This spot is family run and the staff is all very warm and accommodating. I ordered the traditional beef (C-1) and the pepperoni & cheese empanadas (PQ) with a dessert empanada of guava and cream cheese. "Only two?" I'm sure you're thinking. Trust me, these empanadas are pretty filling and two is a good amount. Three is ambitious and reserved for big eaters LOL While you wait for your food, take a look at the pin board! People from all over the world have come to this restaurant to try their food; I'm sure their nod from Guy Fieri helps with that. Each empanada comes with the restaurant name on the crust as well as lettering to indicate the filling, hence the C-1 and PQ I noted before. The PQ was yummy and exactly as expected. I was definitely craving a calzone if you'll pardon the comparison! The C-1 was tasty, but I'm not a big fan of olives which are diced throughout the beef. I should have been aware of that, it being the traditional empanada, so I'll try a different one next time. The sweet empanada was delicious! A sugar crust on the outside, make sure you don't burn your mouth on the gooey insides! I ordered some empanadas to go for my wife and they have fully cooked or partially cooked options. I got the partially cooked to make sure she got the full effect. All it took was popping it into the oven for the specified temp and time and they were ready to go! The cashier (the son of the family, presumably) was very helpful with the to-go order. He told me the instructions but also wrote them down on the box. Another tried and tested spot in SA to take your friends and family. Cheers!

CP- Beef and Potatoes Empanada This one was good!!

Not exactly the hype we were expecting. Great service of course. Family owned which is always a plus. But the empanadas we selected were not newly found favorites. We ordered the spicy chicken, beef and potato (this one we did like) chicken spinach and cheese, pepperoni and cheese, and rajas con queso.

I have a recommendation if you're ever in San Antonio! We stopped at Fat Tummy Empanadas before heading back to Houston after the NCAA finals. I had no idea today was national empanada day! This lime green building, with bars on the windows and doors, in a sketchy part of town had the most incredible empanadas we've ever had! This is a family owned business, and every empanada is made with the pride and love of their Argentinian roots. Guy Fieri was there in 2018, and the restaurant has received many awards for their empanadas several years in a row, and I can understand why. Make this place a must visit while in SA.

Rj G.

Empanadas were tasty! Had the humidity and the rajas com queso. Cooked to order and were hot when served....took a couple cold ones home to eat later!! Service was good and place was small but cozy.

The building definitely puts this into the dive category of food establishments! When I say dive, I don't mean dirty, the inside, while weathered was clean. You order at the counter and they bring your food out. We got the spicy beef, beef and cheese, and chicken-cheese-spinach empanadas. All were good. I personally liked the chicken one best. If you love empanadas I'd give them a try!

Pumpkin Empanada
Mitzi M.

The food is tasty, service was kind, atmosphere was simple. Each empanada is $4.95 and has enough filling to be really filling! I couldn't have eaten two. My friend, who eats a lot of empanadas, was raving about their crust: it's exactly right. They have smaller empanadas for dessert. They cater and have a food truck, too. Also, one unique feature here is the ability to buy raw empanadas and take them home to cook yourself (pop them in the oven).

Absolutely delicious!…read more I've been to EDA once before and have been craving their empanadas ever since! Much like last time, there seemed to be only one person running the shop, the place was sparkling clean (including the restrooms), and there was ample seating in the dining area. The music was a little too loud, especially so in the bathroom, but otherwise the café was so nice. The menu is chock-full of delicious sounding dishes and boba drinks, but I opted for two of their ready to go empanadas. I had the Beef & Cheese, and the Chicken Salteña Empanadas. Both were super yummy and neither the beef nor chicken was dry inside. The fillings were savory, the Beef & Cheese amazingly creamy, and the Chicken Salteña a good blend of spices. The raisins in the Salteña did throw me off for a moment as I didn't think they worked all too well with the rest of the texture of the filling, but it didn't detract too much from the empanada. The dipping sauce that they came with was so tasty and flavorful as well! I was only able to finish half of each empanada because they were so big, but the server was kind enough to give me extra sauce with my to-go box. It added another layer of tastiness to the experience! EDA is a little out of the way for me so I'm not able to go as much as I'd like, but I know I'll be stopping in to snag an empanada or a boba tea when I'm in the area. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try!

They even have combo boxes in multiples of threes where you can save by mixing and matching empanadas! My favorite was the beef ones, the crust was flaky and soft. They have a professional empanada press where they imprint the empanada filling type on the crust with a two-letter code so you know what you're about to get into. The sauces were delicious! They offer a type of chimichurri sauce that's incredible, and a spicy version that's not too spicy at all. The empanada flavors were more imaginative than the empanada stands you typically see- a pulled pork option, bacon and eggs for a breakfast empanada, beef and cheese- there's much more than the typical ham and cheese and beef. The best option- triple cheese! Nom. This ghost kitchen is only for pickup. No dining in. You have to show up with a cell phone to let a computer know who you are, and once you scan your notification, a locker door pops open, and you retrieve your food.

My son and I both like Colombian food based on visits to a competitor that we have gone to many times closer to our house. When I mentioned this place to him, he said we should try it out soon. Today was the day. The first thing I noticed was the size of the dining room. It was roomy with several tables that were appropriately spread out. The decor is attractive with eye catching art painted on the white walls. The tables all have a splash of color on them, as well. Altogether is creates a bright and cheery atmosphere. We were very comfortable. I also noticed that the one television on the far wall was showing Univision and the music being played was in Spanish. I really like the music of a restaurant to reflect the nationality of the cuisine. Our server was an extremely helpful young man. He helped us with the menu. Unlike what is stated in other reviews, the food is described in english. Unfortunately, there are some items that don't translate. Those are the ones I needed help with. We both ended up ordering the same thing. It was lengua in a delicious tomato sauce served with french fries, avocado slices, white rice, salad, and a fried plantain patty. The amount of food on the plates was absolutely outrageous, but we managed to get pretty danged close to clean plates. The flavors were really nice. There was a huge squeeze bottle of Salsa Colombiana (I think that's what he called it) and another with Salsa tartara, the Columbian version of tartar sauce. It was amazing. It was creamy and savory without that sweet pickle taste American folk put on seafood. For drinks, I had a jugo de pina. My son had one made with passion fruit. I heard them being made fresh in the kitchen. They blended the fresh fruit with some water or milk and ice. Mine was really refreshing. It was served in those giant iced tea glasses some places use. There was a lady and her son at another table. I listened as they ordered in Spanish. They asked almost the same questions as we did, so being fluent in Spanish must not mean you would understand the Colombia specific food vocabulary. As we were paying our bill, the lady was pointing to everything on her plate asking "What is this?" in Spanish. I found that a little humorous, as the explanations when ordering were pretty good. My son and I had not problems recognizing the foods on our plate based on what we had heard. On our way home, we passed by the Bandera location. My son pointed it out to me. I don't remember ever seeing it there, but my son says he knew about it. That made me wonder why we frequented the competitor on Tezel where we like the food, but felt uncomfortable being packed in so close in the tiny dining room. In the truck, my son was already telling me what he planned to eat next time. There will definitely be a next time. I need to try their arepas and empanadas, as well as some other jugos.
