Prospective customers should be aware of the scheme at this shop facilitated by its owner. After…read moreinvesting in this store, I later became aware that the "custom-made" hats they sell are actually cheap, mass-produced, factory-made hats with minimal modifications made to the interior and a few decorations added to the exterior. This business is run without integrity or compassion for its customers - the owner is manipulative, rude and full of empty promises. It's become clear that they are under the impression that they have no obligation to quality craftsmanship, honest advertising or attention to customer service as a business. I recommend the business consider rebranding as a hat decorator and adjusting the pricing structure and advertising to reflect the poor quality of their "craftsmanship" and product offerings. ------------ BACKGROUND: I visited Crested Butte in February 2022 and was excited to see a boutique "custom" hat shop in town. My boyfriend had a hat made in a different ski town last year and I was excited at the prospect of having my own made. Unfortunately, the owner was unable to fulfill many of the promises that were made to me in the store. We ran through the options for materials, shape, etc. and took measurements of my head. A turnaround time of 4 weeks to "build" and ship the hat was communicated to me at the time of purchase. After 6 weeks went by, I contacted the business to follow up on the status of my order. They sent an unapologetic reply about production and shipping delays with no explanation of why the "frequent updates" I was promised during the appointment were not fulfilled. I finally received a package in the mail about two weeks later that definitely did not match the description of what was agreed upon during my appointment - and certainly did not meet the expectations I had for a $650 custom-made hat. Initially, I was under the impression my head was measured incorrectly, as the hat barely fit over the crown of my head. The stitching was also incredibly sloppy, a distinct contradiction from the hats on display in the store. I waited about two weeks to see if the hat would potentially "break in" and fit correctly, but did not see any improvement. I emailed the business again to explain my concerns, carefully describing the issues I was experiencing and extended an invitation to speak further on the matter. After 3 days with (yet again) no reply, I followed up and was met with radio silence. At this point, having no offer for resolution from the merchant, I filed a dispute with my creditor for the transaction. After another three weeks went by with no reply from the shop, I decided it was time to seek out an alternative solution - I brought my hat to a local hat shop in NYC for alterations. When the hat maker in NYC inspected the hat, it was explained to me that the hat I purchased from Bjorkstam was a factory-made hat with minimal modifications made and decorations added. This was particularly troubling to hear, as the hats are expressly sold as custom-made and handmade on the Bjorkstam website, on their social media accounts and in the physical store. The owner finally decided to reach out after becoming aware of the disputed charge. I replied promptly and explained that I already sought out an alternative solution through alterations and that the creditor had already closed the dispute. The shop owner continued to send combative, aggressive and threatening emails to me. After weeks of this, I decided to she wasn't worth the exhaustion, so I paid her directly and requested an additional statement credit from Amex - they agreed it wasn't worth dealing with the owner and issued me the credit. Glad I didn't end up losing any money on this! Very thankful I have consumer protection from merchants like this through my creditor. All said, I recommend anybody reading this review to not invest any time, money or energy into this store - you'll be provided with a hat you can buy for much less at any major hat store and have to endure the unpleasant and exhausting experience of dealing with a dishonest shop owner.

I expected to be put off to the side being that I didn't purchase a "Kemo Sabe" hat. That was NOT the case with Erika. She was incredibly friendly, and helped to pick out all the fun additions that were in my budget! If we ever go back to this location I am definitely requesting Erika again! She was awesome!

I waited in line…read moreto enter the store for about thirty minutes, due to waiting to be paired with a sales associate. I'm not sure if that was just because it was the holiday season, but they did not allow anyone in the store without being accompanied by an associate. Once I was paired, the associate gave me a complimentary cocktail and started sizing me for hats. I did feel she was a bit pushy, heavily suggesting certain colors even when I shared my own preferences. As I started on accessories, I did not feel like I was being shown all of the options and only those with a price tag over $1000 (on top of the price of the hat itself). I took it upon myself to search and find what I really liked, but the pushiness of the associate made the experience less enjoyable and rather stressful. Overall I am happy with my purchase, but I would recommend anyone coming in to come prepared with the style you want because the process can be overwhelming otherwise.
