I was warned that I should arrive at 8:30am when it opens because of the intense, passionate customers that tend to come in droves beginning at 9 -- just 30 minutes after the dawn of Dawn and Dusk. I didn't believe the hype, so I thought I could just stroll in at 8:38am, on a warm 78-degree Saturday morning. Well. To no one's surprise but my own, I arrived to a donut truck with a line that spanned across the parking lot. Disappointed in my alarm clock, I walked to the back of the line. I was shocked, however, at how quickly the line was vaporized with speedy donut delivery and the smiles of 4 dessert angels behind the donut doors. Soon it was my turn, and it Dawned on me that I had no clue what to order. Oh Dusk. I quickly skimmed the menu, stopping at the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough creation. I've never seen anything like it before. A chocolate chip cookie dough donut? I must have it. I placed my order with the cashier, I think her name was Addi. I said, "One chocolate chip cookie dough, please." "That's it?" Nervous, I nodded. I had just brushed my teeth 15 minutes prior (silly me) and hadn't seen the dentist in some time. Still, I knew it was bad practice to consume so much sugar this early in the morning. Addi shot a look to Melon in the back and they exchanged words, muffled by the sounds of the Donut Hero father-son duo Moe And Noel. I paid for my single donut, and minutes later I was delivered 3 beautiful, mouth-watering, delectable, Instagram-worthy creations. Unbelievable. Melon exclaimed, "You have to try these other ones! Strawberries and cream is the best, but this one is my favorite." Pointing to what seemed to be some maple cinnamon treat. I couldn't even make out the words that came out of her mouth as she described the donuts. I was stunned. Not only was I gifted with 3 donuts for the price of one, but my entire morning had now shifted. Knowing this was no ordinary donut experience, I exclaimed my thanks and ran back to my car -- rushing to get home. I couldn't eat this like a normal donut, no. I had to get back to my house, sit in my favorite recliner, turn on Netflix to watch my favorite show -- Bojack Horseman -- and I grabbed my carton of apple juice (sorry mom, I'll stop drinking from the carton one day). I bit into each donut, one by one, and it's amazing that I'm still alive to write this review. The donuts sucked. Just kidding. But, really, I can't even begin to describe the exquisite taste that was delivered to me on this fine Saturday morning. No, I couldn't do it justice -- you'll just have to go and try them for yourself. I'm not really one for lots of words anyways. Thank you, Melon, Addi, Moe and Noel. You have changed my life forever. UPDATE: It's been about 5 hours since I consumed these donuts. For all my lactose intolerant friends....just get a glazed donut. Don't make the mistakes I made.

The owner offered us a taste of the beef; it was charcoal-charred, really juicy, tender, and rubbed with a pepper-forward spice. It was incredible - easily one of the top three I've tasted anywhere. Ah, but then he offered tastes of pit pork loin, crunchy exterior yet dripping with juices. I've eaten a boatload of Philly Pork sandwiches but this, this, THIS made them all taste like charcoal. Neither one needed onions or tiger sauce or BBQ sauce or anything other than delicious meat. Their prices and portions were reasonable. Until one Friday evening, and Friday nights are well-known as Friday Night Date Night so this seemed like serendipity! I saw that AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union was celebrating America's 250th Anniversary by partnering with Lucky Penny Burger Company for a voucher-only community event. Best of all, you didn't even have to be a credit union member to participate. I swung by an AmeriChoice branch, picked up vouchers for my Adventure Buddy and me and suddenly my long-awaited Lucky Penny adventure was officially on the calendar! On a beautiful Friday evening, we headed to the food truck for our weekly Friday Night Date Night. Even though the event was busy, the Lucky Penny crew couldn't have been friendlier. They took our order, answered a couple of questions and had our food ready surprisingly quickly considering the line. For my meal, I ordered the Lucky Penny Burger, swapping cheddar for the standard American cheese. It came topped with bacon, lettuce, crispy fried onions and their signature Lucky Penny sauce. My Adventure Buddy chose the Copperhead Burger, featuring pepper jack cheese, jalapeño popper spread, lettuce and homemade candied jalapeños. For our sides, we split things up. Regular fries for my Adventure Buddy. Garlic Parmesan Fries for me. And let me just say...that upgrade was the correct life decision! The Lucky Penny Burger was fantastic! Everything worked together beautifully, but the real star was the signature Lucky Penny sauce. It tied the entire burger together without overpowering everything else, and I'd happily order that burger again tomorrow. My Adventure Buddy gave equally enthusiastic reviews of the Copperhead Burger, especially the homemade candied jalapeños, which added just the right balance of sweetness and heat. Then there were the Garlic Parmesan Fries. Garlic butter. Garlic aioli. Parmesan cheese. Parsley. What's not to love? They were crispy, flavorful and disappeared much faster than I'd care to admit! Overall, Lucky Penny Burger Company absolutely lived up to the hype I'd built up in my head over the past couple of years. Great food, friendly people and a smooth operation even during a busy community event. I'll also give a shoutout to AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union for putting together such a fun community event! It's always nice to see local organizations partnering with local small businesses, and this was a fantastic excuse to finally experience a food truck that had been on my must-try list for far too long!
