The beer variety was alright, nothing to write home about, but they carried some local cerverca artesenales, and also some harder to find Modelo and Corona seasonals. But more importantly the bar had all the delicious affordable Mexican beers Mexico has to offer! If you make friends there, the bar will become alive and the beer will never stop flowing between the caguamas you and the local drunks pop open. Don't know much about the food menu, but the locals kept saying to try the peanuts-pitiados! Greasy, with a weird aftertaste. First, service was very slow, even though the place was empty. Nearly 15 minutes to get some beers. Once the food arrived for 3 out of 4 members, it was 20 minutes for the 4th order (chicken wings, seriously? 20 minutes *more*?) to arrive. They were dry and tasteless, despite a heavy dose of Buffalo sauce. An update on the missing food was requested twice, without response, then it finally showed up, after everyone else was finished. The music was oppressively loud, like the music guy was high and pretty sure his music mix was killin' it. It wasn't. It was just loud. Ear-pounding loud. Let me mention again, the place was empty. Why they thought we would like heavy metal blaring at top volume (they did turn it down for a bit upon request, so we could talk, but then inched it back up, bit by bit, until it drove us out), is beyond me. Give it shot if you like. It may suit you. I can tell you, we won't return; there are too many other great places to eat in Tlaquepaque.

I can't attest to the quality of food here, but it smelled good, as for the decor, it's like a funky little loft eatery heavy on the atmosphere and local artwork. Being on the second floor, it already has the privacy thing going for it, but it also offered comfy chairs and tables with cool little spots to hang out. If I had been in Guadalajara for one more day, I most definitely would have come back and tried their food, the menu had all the local favs including some delicious sounding milkshakes (banana/vanilla combo?!). I have found that it's in these little out of the way spots that you often find the best local fare. I have a strong feeling that La Qabalah is one of those places. But if you find yourself in the same situation as I did, getting to La Qabalah just as they close, then maybe you can make the same decision that I did that night, I took a few steps down the block and ate at Cocina Cine. La Qabalah served as a quick pitstop when jumping in between destinations in Guadalajara last weekend. My buddy found it on Yelp and it seemed to check a few boxes for us, specifically some quick drinks and possibly some bites too. The drinks were as you'd expect. If you're not at a place that bills itself as a cocktail joint (La Qabalah does not) you'll get the Mexico standard - fine by me. We had a cheap bottle of wine that my wife turned into a spritzer with some mineral water and a few small plates of mushrooms and a bruschetta. Both were decent with the bruschetta winning the race of mediocre. The table next to us went to town with burgers, wings, and pizza, all of which looked good. They devoured it! All in all it's not a bad place, but not a great place. Enter with little to no expectations and you'll have a good time. If you read this and enter with lofty expectations, you're probably an a$$hole.
