Maybe I've been spoiled, but I don't really tolerate poor fish and chips shops anymore. There are…read moreenough decent ones out there to show up the poorer ones. Red Hill Seafood falls more into the latter category than the former, and like its type has a 1980s vibe to it (despite stocking modern energy drinks). The 80s vibe is expressed via a kind of corner-suburban-takeaway store vibe. I can imagine my father stopping in at a place like this for milk on the way home when I was a kid. Except now we have convenience stores that sell milk cheaper than places like this, which makes you wonder how they still exist. When I've walked past or dropped in, the place has always been busy. I attribute this to the Lazy Student Effect (not restricted to just lazy students) whereby most people within a one-block radius are hung-over Gen Y-ers who need pick-me-up food or milk for their instant coffee and walk to the closest place possible. (I'm not hating. We've all been there.) I now live half-way between Red Hill seafood and another much better peer with some of the best chips I've ever tasted (Red Ocean Seafoods). I was surprised when moving here to note most people had heard of Red Hill Seafood (e.g. "..and so I was up there with the dog and the mailman walked out, in his regular clothes, and the dog went for him...") but have not heard of Red Ocean Seafoods. If you want decent-tasting takeaway at good prices and meal servings, I'd go there instead.

I was there to pick up something for lunch. They offer various seafood snacks as well as burgers,…read moresandwiches and stuff. They also have a large selection of drinks. The place looks clean and it was a nice temperature inside. The shopkeeper was a nice guy, but sometimes i had my problems understanding him. Maybe because we're both not natural english speakers. But me managed that and i could place my order. I choosed a Sandwich with Chicken and Salad. Though he made it fresh it was very quick and tasted fantastic.

D'lish Fish is pretty good at what they do, which is fish and chips - dine in or take out. They've…read moregot a wide range of fish to choose from and the meals are seasonably priced. When I went there with my father, we got a combo for two at $38. It was mid afternoon and there were a number of people sitting down, so we thought we'd too. Inside D'lsih Fish, I noticed it was kind of dark, like a fish grotto I guess and kind of mysterious. Maybe it was just me, but it was the vibe I got. It didn't take long for our order to come out and it was huge, even if they forgot to plate up my calamari and dad didn't have his prawns we probably couldn't have finished what was before us. But we were surely going to try. After we pointed this out what was missing from our orders, the lady behind the counter made sure that they were at our table in less than five minutes. With complete meals we began to charge ahead. We didn't manage to finish the combo, probably because we didn't get really excited with what we were eating. It was good, don't get me wrong, but there was nothing to make us push that pain barriers because of pure deliciousness.

Their fish and chips are…read moreperfectly acceptable and will do the trick if you're after a quick takeaway meal at a pretty cheap price. There's nothing super remarkable about D'Lish Fish, though. Their food is fairly standard, as is their service. I always notice that it's very popular with families with young children. I guess that's because you can't go wrong with getting kids to eat fish and chips, and the casual atmosphere at D'Lish Fish is tolerant of kids running round or screeching etc. The servings here are very generous and the food is ready fast which is always a plus when you have a hankering for fish and chips. If I were to eat in I'd recommend getting one of the footpath tables because inside can get a little cramped and noisy, especially in the early evening when there are lots of kids around. D'Lish Fish is a fish and chip shop and it does its job. It's nothing amazing, but sometimes you don't need amazing you just need a traditional takeaway dinner.

The Thai Kitchen is one of those restaurants that try to cram in as many people as possible. Lucky…read morefor me, I'm eating with a very skinny friend. Inside it's loud and surprisingly warm. With such a close proximity to those surrounding me, I couldn't imagine what it would be like eating in there in summer. We are seated quickly and orders taken. No less than five minutes have gone by and our entrees of chicken satays skewers are served. They're succulent to eat and the sauce is one of the best I have tasted in a while. I really can't concentrate on anything else. With the volume ever increasing whist more people are seated its difficult to have a conversation without potentially ruining my vocal chords. Yes that is an exaggeration but not to far from the truth. Just like how quickly our main meals arrive at our table. If there's one thing to praise Thai Kitchen for, it's definitely the urgency to get orders out. I don't think we've gone more than five minutes without food. I get into my (beef) Gang Massaman and my friend starts on his (duck) Gang Ped Yang. Mid way through the meal we sample the others dish and come to two conclusions. The first is that both dishes are pretty damn fly and the second is that the sauces for both dishes kind of taste the same. It's weird. When the last grain of rice and final drop of sauce has been consumed a waiter is there to swiftly take up our plates, offer deserts (which we decline) and pour us waters. We pay our bill and walk away feeling like we've just been efficiently fed processed and set free.

I wouldn't recommend eating in at Thai Kitchen because the premises is very cramped and noisy, but for takeaway it's perfect. I always phone in and place my order and it's usually ready to be picked up in about twenty minutes. They're very accommodating about customising your meal and are happy to leave meat or seafood out of dishes for vegetarians. They alway ask if you want your meal mild, medium, or hot so if you're not a chilli fan you don't have to worry. I wish their kitchen stayed open later, though, because even though they're open until 9:30, last orders are at 8:15. I love their vegetarian red curry and vegetarian pad thai, and my meat-eating friends recommend the thai beef salad and duck curry. It's reasonably priced, friendly, and delicious and obviously has a loyal following since it's still going after so long. There's short-term parking on the street out the front so you can dash in and grab your order, and if you want to eat in there's parking out the back. Thai Kitchen is much better than your average suburban thai place, and whenever I feel like thai I don't even think twice about where to go.
