My personal trainer created a great program that perfectly suits my body's characteristics and would boast the best results in the shortest period of time. A truly great place to work out.

Do it, do it, JUST DO IT!…read more Really motivating way to lose weight, tone up and make some new friends (at least people you can have a laugh with at 7am!). You sign up for eight sessions over a month (if you do two sessions a week), and you find the intensity gradually increases. If you do two months in a row then you get it heavily discounted. There are about 4-8 people in each group, so you do get personalised help/guidance but also the benefit of the others to keep you motivated. It's quick bursts of high intensity cardio (ie. sprints/running) then a mix of muscle exhaustion exercises (insert 1000 lunges, squats here). You can work at your own pace, although the results will obviously be better the more you push yourself. This is not some insane miltary screeching regime... Gavin or your instructor will motivate you, sure, but it is not by yelling or punishment. It will be you doing the squealing! There is also the added benefit of nutritional advice and tips via email - which again, you do it, you see the results. Although I could never quite give up the pasta... :( (see all other reviews which are eating, eating, eating!). What I also like are that the people who come (in both groups I've been to anyway) are not fitness mentalists - ewww, they scare me. They are a great bunch of people with realistic fitness goals and who are up for a laugh. Highly recommended.
Live in Barons Court? Want an affordable gym to 'get the job done' (stay in shape or lose weight,…read morethat is). Energize Fitness is great!! Less than half the cost of other gyms in the area, Energize has a range of treadmills, elliptical machines, stairsteppers, two types of bikes, weight training equipment, ab mats, etc. They also have daily classes such as spinning, zumba, kickboxing, etc. If you're a student at the college, you get an even more amazing discount. (I took a night class there and my membership was less than 10 quid a month - wow!!). I'm a personal fan of the spinning classes; they really kicked my hiney! A great, challenging work out that really steps it up! It does get crowded right after work, but most gyms do. To avoid that, come in the morning or after dinner time, if you're able. The place isn't huge and it's not a Virgin Active wannabe or anything - it's simple, affordable and great, all around!

Almost all the other reviews here mention that this is not a place to come to get fit from scratch…read more If you are not at least an intermediate level of fitness you almost certainly won't be able to get through a class and may hurt yourself if not experienced with weights as the demonstrations are very quick. It would also be pretty demoralising! I just came here as it was arranged by friends but it was def too much for me and kind of hurt my confidence even though I've been doing really well to recover from a broken leg. That aside it's a very effective full on work out and combines cardio and strength/resistance training which is a very efficient way to spend an hour. I can totally see how you could burn 1000 calories an hour here (as they suggest) if you are doing pushing yourself to the max. The trainer offers 3 different speeds for treadmill work so there is some flexibility, although there's no easy option! I wouldn't recommend this if you don't like a fairly aggressive (although encouraging) style of training or loud music - you'd be better off outdoors or at yoga (which is my general preference!) - but for what this sets out to be it's really good. There are also some really nice aftercare features - the changing rooms are nicely done with Malin + Goetz shampoo, conditioner and shower gel (although not a lot of room to change!) and they have some delicious smoothies which you can pre order - the one with mango and banana was gorgeous!

Problem with chain gyms nowadays is that although they are very accessible and generally very well equipped, they are expensive and hellishly difficult to cancel ones membership from. Step up Fit Space. Fit Space is a large open plan gym with all manner of resistance machines and a huge selection of cardio machines. There is a virtual trainer for spin fit classes and an impressive free weight selection where dumbbells go up to 40kg. If you want to stretch and do abs, there are several dedicated areas where you are away from the weight lifters. Now for the best part! Membership costs £17pm. Even better is that there is no contract. When you want to leave, you simply cancel your direct debit and that's it. No calling every man and his dog, sending a letter to the queen's second cousins mum to ask if its ok if you quit. So why is it so cheap you may ask? Fit Space has no frills. The changing rooms are basic yet clean, there are no classes, no pool and no fluffy towels. What you see is what you get, and for £17pm you get a lot.

I much prefer the activity i.e. golf, snowboarding, cycling where I get the health benefit and the actual enjoyment. However despite my initial misgivings, I signed up via a qype offer, and I have been extremely surprised; I have found myself really enjoying the experience, though the 20 to 30 minutes after the session I find absolute beagony due to my inherent lack of fitness. The trainers are friendly, always mindful and engaging, however they do push you without resorting the drill sergeant tactics. Curiously, you will find yourself trying to beat or at least push yourself to get the most of of the experience and to match the expectations of your trainer. Having researched some prices of other gyms, this is by far the best I have seen in terms of value, and allied with the new equipment and the friendly staff, it seems a no-brainer. I would definitely recommend it to someone wanting to push themselves to lose weight, gain muscle or in my case just improve my level of fitness a bit.
I have always been active and always a member of a gym, but I never quite achieved either the…read moreweight loss I was always striving for or the toned physic and was getting extremely de-motivated. A colleague of mine then recommended I visit IgnitePT and see what I think so I went to take a look. My initial goal was to lose around two stone I had put on since turning 30 (a little while back now) and to coincide the weight loss with a holiday to South Africa. If I am honest, I didn't think it was a realistic goal as I had attempted it in the past and the weight simply didn't reduce to the extent I wanted which was really disappointing. I was working out, putting hours into my gym sessions but really poor results. I signed up and had to keep a food diary which was regularly reviewed. The critique was tough but very fair and it became a learning experience / re-education to what I should eat and drink and when. It was a surprise to me how often I should eat and was strange to have a recommendation to eat more often but it allowed me to feel nourished and gave me the energy to rise to the challenging workouts that came alongside the dietary changes. It also reduced my snacking tendency and a cheat day was built in to keep me on track. A proper exercise programme was then drawn up with a mixture of some personal training, gym work and an appropriate balance of rest. The PT sessions consisted of some tough cardio i.e. circuit style work with working every muscle group. The range of equipment kept it interesting though and the fact that I could see the progression at regular intervals. I would be lying if I said my personal training sessions were a doddle far from it. I have never worked so hard before or felt so whacked at the end of the hour sessions. However once my initial conditioning was out the way I was relatively pain free as I was pushed to a limit but not to the extent that I couldn't walk. The constant changing of the exercises and the fact that I could see definite progression made it all motivational as did the great prompting and encouragement given by my trainer. I am so proud of having lost the weight and love all the compliments I get. Tough bit now is continuing to maintain it but I'm confident I can do it and think that training at IgnitePT was one of my best decisions ever.
