But I'm always willing to check out a new place and make my own decision because it's a fun hobby of mine. And I'm retired and I have plenty of time. Now I've been traveling in Mexico for most of my life because of family and friends that I have there, and I have a real soft spot for the cuisine of Mexico, whether from the seven regions that culinary historians talk about; or the sub regions such as our beloved Tex-Mex, which I love. I'm here in the morning and it's a breakfast all day option kind of place. I get a fruit smoothie (Ilusión) and a tecolota, their riff on a chilaquiles sandwich. The smoothie is excellent and I would come back just for it. They offer an option with or without sugar. A no charge, courtesy consommé with potatoes and fideo arrives. Delicious. As was the excellent sandwich. See photos. Beef birria ramen; tacos ahogados; caldo de albondigas; patitas de puerco en salsa roja; beef short ribs... how is it that I am just discovering this place? I love, cruising down Airline, Irvington, and Fulton, as there are so many places to choose from a Mexican culinary heritage. I want to spend a year, just trying all of the different places.
