I want to share my experience so no one has to go through what I went through. I was having issues filing my 2022 tax return online with H&R Block because it said it didn't have my prior year adjusted gross income. My dad knew Mark's father and suggested I ask him because he worked in the shopping center near where my parents lived. I spoke to Mark for 5 minutes and he said I should call the IRS and ask. I asked what the best number was and he said to just let him do it, as it would be faster and he has to call the IRS everyday anyways. After speaking with them, he told me I needed to mail in my 3 prior years of tax returns and that he would offer to review them for free. He didn't change my 2021 or 2020 return, but said he found a $46 refund for my 2019 return. I was shocked when he charged me for calling the IRS and for checking my returns, as I never asked him to do those things. I paid because I was so uncomfortable and wanted to leave. A year goes by and I get a letter from the IRS saying I had been sent to collections for 2019 because I had been assessed a second time. I called the IRS and they informed me that Mark forgot to write amended on the 2019 return he reviewed and prepared and so I was processed twice. They IRS agent told me to inform Mark to mail in a letter stating that he made a mistake and that I should not have been processed twice. I called Mark and told him this and he assured me he would fix it. Months go by, and nothing happens. I followed up with him and he acted like he didn't understand the issue and kept talking in circles. He tried to blame everyone but himself for the mistake. I was shocked someone could be so incompetent and so unethical. He refused to take accountability and has yet to give me an apology. This went on multiple times of me following up, him saying he would fix it, me asking why nothing was happening, and him trying to blame everyone but himself. At this point I have no clue if he ever even called the IRS on my behalf or he was just lying. He also refused to refund me my money for (1) services I did not ask for, (2) services that were completely unnecessary, and (3) services that he did incorrectly. I'm shocked this man is still in business. I eventually reviewed the amended return he prepared and realized he didn't find me a refund, he just was negligent and forgot to report interest income from 2019. I went back to the email where I sent him with the support for the three years of returns and made sure it was all attached and clearly labeled, proving that this was entirely his fault. I am now in the process of reporting him to the IRS and have a whole audit trail showing his negligence. read more
