Kevin is fast, friendly, and efficient. I called before I headed in. He said there was a 5 min wait, unfortunately someone came in before I got there...I live a couple mins (very close) to his shop. I had to wait an additional 15 mins before my "Fast Smog". I wish he had waited to take his next appointment before I got there. I went to get a smog check that I had been delaying for months because I was so busy and thought it would be a huge hassle. Plus, I was concerned with people entering my car; however, Kevin was really accommodating of my busy schedule, and I didn't even have to leave the comfort of my car. This place is awesome! So I got a not so nice letter from the DMV telling me my car is getting too old and need a smog test. Argh! So I called around all the smog places in the area and found this shop who had the cheapest rate and a 5 star rating on Yelp! The shop is very small located behind some other shops, but following the Ferrari sign I had no problems. The test took about 15min. Fast and easy. I have been going to this place for 10 years now, and I loved the convenience and speed of the service. The last vehicle I brought in however had a faulty check engine light bulb that did not light up at all. As soon as the operator turns the key and sees there is no check engine light visible, he should stop the service. This guy ran through the entire test and charged me even though he knew he couldn't pass the car. He simply ripped me off. I will not return here ever again!!!! read more

I went in for a smog test yesterday and it failed. Turned out when I had gotten my oil change elsewhere they never put the cap back on. Kevin told me to come back and get retested for a small fee. When I came back today it passed and I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. When it came time to pay, he then refused to let me pay the retest fee. This place was cheap and very professional. I came here right when they opened and my smog check was done in 10 minutes. Highly recommend! It was a bit tricky to find. Google maps will lead you to an apartment building in the back and not the actual shop. The entrance for the shop is on Newport Blvd (north bound). I came to this smog check station because of the awesome reviews on Yelp and that it's only $40. I had a good impression of this place at first since Kevin was really friendly (and thus, the one star for that). The waiting room was nice. I was, however, told that my car didn't pass the smog check because of "visual smoke" (while the car passed every other item listed on the smog checklist). Kevin told me I may have to get another engine to replace the one I have. I was quite worried since I was thinking there might be something wrong with the car. A friend of mine recommended me an auto repair shop with an honest mechanic and headed there the next day. They told me that there was no reason for him to fail it when he passed everything else on the report. They then recommended me to go to a friend's smog check center and my car passed. I learned my lesson and will not be going back there again. Pay a little extra if you have to. This place is not worth it. read more

This hidden gem is the best smog place you will ever find. Every year, it is 10% cheaper than the best competitor I can find for my type of vehicle. Even better, the repair shop next to them moved out a while ago. I used to have to wait almost an hour for the line, but today I drove up and he was cheerfully waiting , so the instantaneous service is a new plus! GF had to get her car smog check and it seems that the DMV now requires "STAR certified" as oppose to their old "Gold Shield" program. We relied on trusty yelp to see if we can get a good deal and we were pointed to Newport Smog Test Only Center & Auto Registration Services as it had raving reviews. HOWEVER, even with their $10 yelp discount, we were quoted for $50 something and then they said we had to add on an extra fee for the certificate to the DMV (~ $8-10) so the total would be in the $60 range. We were going to just go anyway figuring that they had great reviews but we were really bummed about spending that much since for the past couple of years we were paying ~$40-50. Long story short, we stumbled on to Fast Smog and cross checked with the CA DMV website to see that they were also "STAR certified". We called them on a Friday morning and asked for a quote, the guy responded that it will be $40 out the door with the certificate sent to the DMV. We asked if we needed an appointment and he said no, just come by whenever. We went there shortly and there was no wait. We were told to wait in the waiting area and within 15-20 minutes we were done! Fast smog is FAST! The gentleman was also very courteous and polite which is a plus. Do take note as previous yelpers have mentioned that there is a $1 surcharge for credit card transaction. Save yourself $20 and come here! read more
