I had no problem with that, especially since I was told the fee would be applied toward the final bill. I actually think charging a reasonable estimate fee can be perfectly fair, even though some other companies offer free estimates. The problem was the price I was quoted: $2,700 just for labor to replace a standard hot water tank. In my experience, that is an extremely high labor charge for what should be a relatively straightforward replacement. The technician took one look at the setup and provided the quote. Honestly, I could have provided two photos and received essentially the same information. That experience left me questioning whether the estimate fee, combined with the pricing, is part of the company's overall business model. I understand that companies have overhead and need to make money, but the labor price I was quoted was far beyond what I expected. To be fair, both employees/contractors I interacted with were extremely professional and courteous, even though I was admittedly frustrated and a little rude during the interaction. I have no complaints about their professionalism or customer service on a personal level. Great employees, but in my experience, questionable pricing and business practices. I ultimately decided to look elsewhere for the replacement.
