Honestly Yelp? Can you do no wrong? I'm sitting in a gas station parking lot on the edge of town. I…read morewas running errands for work and I say to myself "What the heck is around here that's serving lunch, quickly, yet local?" So I pull up my lil Yelp app and BAM! Helen's Fast Food. It's parking lot is literally attached to the one I'm in (I couldnt see the building ok?). So I drive on over (I actually pulled up the directions on the app, cause I'm like that). This is a cute little spot, not too busy but I see they specialize in good ol' perogies and cabbage rolls. I'm in! I ordered the 10 perogies for $13.99. Yikes, a bit steep. I should have went for the sausage on a bun. More "lunchy" and more affordable. On their take out menu I saw an option for 5 perogies, but it's not on the menu board. This is where this spot loses a star for me, its a bit disorganized in the price/availability. Signs over top of unavailable items, obvious price changes, etc. I feel bad because when she typed in $16.00 I thought, didn't it say $13? But then of course, I forget we are Canadian, and there's tax. I was all "excuse me miss, what the heck?" and then I'm like "OMG my bad!" But she was so nice and explained that she did round up the price by a few cents and offered to give me a pecan butter tart. I politely declined but then I caved in when she offered one more time. Helen, you so sweet girl. Anywho, off to the perogies. I told myself, this would be a nice thing to bring home to the bf for dinner. Cause this is a dinner sized amount of perogies. Well that was before I tried them. Oh HELL these things are amazing. So soft and fluffy yet kind of crispy. A hint of onion in the potato and the bacon it came with? Oh yeah baby. I DEVOURED EVERY SINGLE ONE. ALL 10! I'll just say, my pants were actually tight and the food baby was prominent. It made for a very uncomfortable afternoon at work. But you know what? No regrets, YOLO, and all that. Because it was worth it. I'll happily go back for lunch and get a sausage or hamburger. Maybe even try a cabbage roll! Definitely stop in sometime when your out Lambeth way!

I don't normally review or check into fast food chains and franchises because everything is…read morecontrolled and consistent, and... it's fast food, what is there to talk about? So unless there is something unique about the location, I'm usually mums on these reviews (I have written some with Starbucks and McD's, but again, the focus was primarily on something other than the food). So what's up with Harvey's? Well I think Harvey's has a story worth mentioning. A true Canadian fast food chain, Harvey's has been around since 1959 and still only has locations in Canada. Harvey's was the pioneer of three concepts that is still visible in franchise chains even today. The fist was the control of cash, the concept of paying up front, then following your receipt along the top of the toppings counter and then getting your food. The second was the toppings counter, allowing you to customize your burger with fresh ingredients. The third was the concept of skin-on fresh cut fries; imported from PEI, then washed and cut in house with the skins left on. On a more personal note, Harvey's was the first to introduce me to Poutine and to fast food franchises, a dish that has expanded to Canadian competitors like McD's, Burger King, Wendy's, A&W, and New York Fries. For many of these, the Poutine did not survive and were eventually removed from the menu. Poutine is fries, cheese curds, and brown sauce. I say brown sauce and not gravy, as gravy is a sauce made from the juices of meat; and, well let's face it, there's no meat juices of any kind in this sauce... in fact, Harvey's "gravy" is vegan! (verified by the company via email) along with the veggie burger, the multigrain bun, the fries, and the onion rings. The hot brown sauce is enough to melt the cheese curds and provide that ooey gooey goodness in every bite. The sauce is salty by design as the cheese curds carry no flavour, and I often add some ground pepper to curb it further. The fries and fried to a crisp golden brown on the outside and the potato is still soft and tender inside. As good as it gets for non-gourmet poutine. 5 stars. Onion Rings. A simple, seasoned batter, they're cooked to a crispy outside without overcooking the onion inside. 4 stars. Tip: You can order Frings (1/2 fries, 1/2 onion rings) as a side to your combo or on their own and try them both! "Gravy" can also be ordered as a side. Chocolate Milkshake. Another surprise, it's sweet, it's thick, it's cacao-ey, and really tasty. 4 stars. Apple Pie. Once upon a time, everyone deep fried their apple pies in Canada. With brand imaging with the last couple of decades, healthier consciences steered most to baking them. Harvey's remained on the path that quickly changed to the one less traveled by, and I love them for it! My philosophy is enjoy everything in moderation. The crust of the apple pie is thin and crispy. It's a little greasy, which you have to expect for something deep fried, but the ratio of filling to pastry counters any grease effectively (all the more reason for moderation!). 5 stars. I also want to note that Harvey's is on the pricier side for fast food, but they also keep things simple from a price standpoint. For example, you can pick any side you want with your combo, and the price doesn't change. You can also upgrade items, paying only the difference. E.g. upgrade the fries with your combo to a poutine for $2. Or from a drink to a shake for $1. Or fries to frings for $1. Want cheese or bacon? Add a $0.89. Cheeseburger. Sporting a 5.1oz (145g) patty, all their burgers are cooked to order over 600°F (316°C) open flames, then topped the way you like it right in front of your eyes with fresh ingredients. The burger is made with 100% beef that is now purely sourced in Canada. It's not a 100% pure ground beef (it's processed so it may have some beef fillers, but it's 100% beef none the less, and it's not discernible to my taste buds), so it does not have the same texture as Wendy's, McD's or BK, but it's much thicker and juicier than it's competitors. The cheese is processed like all other fast food places. (3,5 stars). Harvey's is probably my favourite FAST FOOD place for Burgers, Poutine, Onion Rings, and Apple Pie. I'm definitely a fan. 4 stars overall. If you're in Canada, Harvey's is something you need to experience for yourself. If you would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... Bon Appétit!

This time was a dinner for three. We started with a dozen oysters on the half shell that were fresh and delicious. Appreciated that we were notified that they have Happy Hour Tues-Fri 3pm-5pm with 1/2 price oysters. Also had the Fried Smelts which were tasty. Two of us had Craft burgers. This time they did arrive as ordered (last time med rare arrived well done) but they mixed the orders. One was med rare and the other rare. Not nice having to change burgers after each taking a bite. Despite the mix up the juicy burgers and fries were excellent. The other order was the Braised Beef Cheek Birria Grilled Cheese. This was very good but a touch pricey at $28 for what you get. Speaking of price, the craft burger is $24. I asked for a side of mayo for the fries and it arrived promptly. They charged $2 for the mayo which was not mentioned. Considering that our total bill ran $250 it seemed out of place to charge for mayo. One of the best reasons to come to Craft Farmacy is to try craft beers which they rotate regularly. We each enjoyed a beer or two. For desert we ordered their Chai Crème Brûlée and Crack Pie with gelato. Both are highly recommended. We also had glass of sherry that unfortunately was off and had to be sent back. Replaced with a glass of Port. When the bill arrived the sherry was not removed, they did take it out when we caught the mistake. Our meal was much better than the last visit. All of the food was well prepared this time but the little mistakes on burger mixup and sherry on the bill were disappointing. Still if looking for a good burger and a great beer you can do a lot worse than Craft Farmacy.
