A typical liquor store with a small market but with a large and solid collection of wines. The had it all, great local and wines from the greater California area, wines from the South America, including some Malbecs, wines for Europe, such as Italy, Spain, France, and Germany. The liquor store had a very goof beer inventory, with an array of snacks, and energy drinks. During the colder months, they carry firewood, and they have Lotto. Service was okay, but I felt the guy at counter could of been a little friendly. When I commented on the nice collection of wine they carried, his response was, " I know we carry a lot of wine" with a touch of arrogance to his voice. I simple thank you would of been enough. So much alcohol that will make your head spin! Tequilas, vodka, etc on the shelves with other alcohol in the bins, and the floor. For the high priced alcohol they have the empty boxes out however just go to the front register and they will package the bottle for you. They are fully stocked. Love the varieties. They have so much wine too with descriptions and key notes for most. They have a section for cigars at the very end of the register. On the other side of the store are chips, and other snacks. Prices are decent, it's always a treat coming here and seeing what new stuff they carry. read more

I have found this place is very friendly. I was looking for a special limited edition carlsberg liverpool champions beer. They said they didn't have it but they could order it. He called the distributed on the spot and took my info. A few days later he called to follow up and it was in! I bought a few and announced in a liverpool soccer supporters club that they had them. It's not a terrible liquor store, but it's titled pretty appropriately considering it could be laid out Farr Better. They actually have a pretty good selection of wine and beer, but it's organized only slightly better than the 99 cent store. There's really no shelves at all. Just a bunch of wine bottles in boxes all over the floor. On the plus side the single shooters are aplenty and right at the front so you won't have any trouble finding those. I was getting my haircut next door and thought I stop by and make a purchase and support local business. When I entered the two guys working behind the register just looked at me, no hello or welcome. You can tell the owner does not care about their customers. This place was so dirty filthy, and disorganized. The place was a dive, so disorganized, bottles stacked up littered everywhere on boxes, the place had no pride of ownership and most likely the musty smell was from years of mold. Owner was rude when I paid, like I was bothering him. Do not come here this place is terrible, a mess and they dislike their customers, very shady business. read more

I debated how to rate Farr Better, and whether 4 stars or 5 stars was appropriate. Then I went through a mental checklist: (1) How is their selection? Answer: great. I have been into tequila of late and really enjoy going in and browsing. My favorite is the Amate anejo, about $35 a bottle (and worth every penny). The guys recommended the Adan y Eva anejo, which was also excellent. (And it comes in a big old maple syrup-looking bottle with Adam & Eve on the label, a conversation-starter if nothing else.) (2) How are their prices? Answer: really good. Better than BevMo, with a better selection. As good as the sale prices at a supermarket. (3) How is the service? This was the key in flipping the review from 4 stars to 5 stars. The guys are really friendly and very knowledgeable about their products. I've had lengthy conversations with them about scotch (for a friend) and tequila (for me), and I've always come out enlightened and stoked on the experience. In summary, Farr Better is a cool little local liquor store and a great place to find something unique. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. I thought this would the just any regular liquor store when I first walked in. They had a fantastic selection of wines, even some harder to find wines. My girlfriend bought a pack of tobacco and a case of beer from this place. She accidentally left it on the counter, realized and a few minutes later called the place to see if it was there. The owner had no recollection of seeing the items and my girlfriend went back to see if her items were there. When she arrived, the owner seemed suspicious and was getting very short with my girlfriend. Basically, she left it at the counter and he restocked it because the beer case was cleanly stocked when she came back 10 minutes later. Unless he asked the stock boy to re stock that beer right after my girlfriend bought it, that seems highly unlikely. This guy knows what he did, very shady and unprofessional. My girlfriend and I have been shopping here for years but will no longer support this business due to the owner seeming desperate and dishonest. Shame on them!! read more

I used just come here because it was a quick, convenient in and out for a six-pack or bag of ice. I stopped going here after I sent my adult son there to pick-up some ingredients for Moscow Mules. I gave him a list of what I wanted and he went there and asked the clerk to clarify a couple of things. The guy who worked there was a complete d*ck to him and treated him like a pos the whole time. My son is very polite and respectful so it really pisses me off when people like that treat young adults that way. Unassuming looking liquor store that has been there forever. I used to ride my bike with my Dad to pick up the Sunday paper from this place in the pre-Home Depot/Encinitas Ranch Town Center days. I've found that, contrary to popular belief, BevMo is not the best place to pick up a diverse selection of craft beers. You've got to hit up the local liquor stores that are trying to make a name for themselves as craft beer meccas. While Royal Liquor in Leucadia is still the local gold standard in Encinitas, Farr Better has a great selection for New Encinitas residents that don't want to drive into Leucadia. I've had good success getting limited edition brews and the staff is helpful in letting you know when certain beers are getting in. Farr Better is the best option for craft beer on the El Camino Real Encinitas corridor by far. read more

I often go to this store to purchase lottery tickets. I use to accumulate a lot of winning tickets to redeem them at once. After the owner cashed out for me, he said he wouldn't redeem for me in the future because it causes a long waiting line. All I want to say is if you don't want to fulfill your obligation then you'd better stop selling the lottery. This kind of bad attitude to the customer won't make your business go far. read more

The review by Henry H. is spot on. Their selection is crazy! They even have a lot of seriously high priced alcohol that you just don't ever buy. If they don't have what you are looking for, they will order it for you. For example, On my wedding day I wanted to have a bottle of Jameson Rarest Vintage. This particular bottle costs $300 and you cannot find it anywhere. Even Bevmo's website doesn't have it, let alone in the store. They shipped it to the store in 2 days. This point also touches on the customer service. I spent 15 minutes with the owner as he pulled out his alcohol bible and confirmed that they bottle was available to ship and would be in the store in time for my wedding. He called me the next day to confirm it was on it's way and called the next day as soon as the shipment arrived. The proprietor refuses to repair or replace his atm machine arguing that he will give cash back, for $2, if you purchase something. Not the same thing. If a person wants to withdraw a few $ hundred dollars I doubt the cashier has that much in his drawer. Most liquor stores and convenience stores understand that customers have come to expect an atm will be provided as a service to customers and a revenue generator for the proprietor. This is my local liquor store and I have visited many times (probably once a month for the last 3 years). I am a scotch drinker. The selection here is Farr better (see what I did there) than you would expect from a strip mall liquor store. Furthermore, they will happily order anything that they do not have in stock. The guys are very knowledgeable and friendly. The prices are comparable to bevmo (at least for scotch). Occasionally, they may be a few dollars higher or lower than the big chains. I am willing to accept this variation in return for the expertise. For instance, when the price Macallan 18 yr went up, he suggested I try Glenmorangie 18 yr, for nearly half the price. Not quite as complex, but an excellent substitute for the price. I also like to support a local business. Their selection of other spirits is also excellent. It seems that most of the negative reviews are about debit card fees. I can't comment on this, as most of my purchases exceed the minimum amount.
