I thought hard in deciding whether to give Faria's Ranch Market one or two stars and I settled on one star simply because this is the kind of fruit stand I want to avoid.
I went in there and the location of where the fruit was grown was not listed for any of the fruit. So you don't know what's local or what may have been picked in Mexico and shipped over the border, for instance. I took a picture of a sticker on an apple that said it's from Superfreshgrowers.com. If you have access to the web you could tell that's from Washington state. But there's nothing in the store to help you. Newcastle Produce off I-80 solves this by labeling the origins of all its fruit.
The fruit has a problem because it has to buy fruit it can sell and not everything is available locally. But we know nothing of the origins of what is available there.
Another gripe is that they advertise themselves as being a cheese warehouse outlet. Their cheese selection si small and the price is about what you'd pay in a supermarket. I bought one chunk of cheese and it was pretty routine cheese, like you'd find in a supermarket.
Much of the rest of the stuff are things like all natural honey and expensive popcorn.
So I write this review so others are forewarned. read more
All the fruit here is the stuff the packing houses wont sell. Small and misshapen fruit. I looked around for a bit to find something that looked decent and I ended up settling on 2 small baskets of cherries. I should have gone with me gut and just left without anything. They were pretty tasteless with the occasional decent one. Do yourself a favor and get your fruit and veggies from the Farmers Market on Saturdays in Visalia. read more
I found the fruit stand at Faria's to be amazing. The guy selling the fruit said that the cherries had been picked that morning and from the taste, I don't doubt that. The peaches, cherries, figs, plums.. everything was delicious. They also sell homemade, locally produced cheese. Wonderful! read more
