We've been here twice so far. We live in madera and it's worth the drive for us. They're friendly there and it's a fun experience. It's a fee entrance on Tuesdays.. all the other days it's 5 bucks each person over the age of 5. Berries are about $4 bucks a pound. It can add up quickly so be careful lol read more

This is a fantastic place! You can come here to pick your own berries, buy some of the wine they make here or other products as well. They even have blueberry vinegar and apparently a cobbler which I haven't tried yet. I was able to do the berry picking with my mom and it was so much fun. They have at least 6 or 7 different types of berries and they provide you with a map which shows you the different vine locations. You can even scan a code for an audio file that provides various information. The berries were so juicy and huge! I have had their blueberry, raspberry, peach, and boysenberry wines and they are all fantastic! (They offer complimentary wine tasting). My favorite is the blueberry; it is not too sweet and you really get that blueberry taste. I love supporting local businesses and this place has that mom and pop, part of the community kind of feel. I first found out about their wine from the Hanford Farmer's Market and their wine has won multiple awards from local wine competitions as well. Berry heaven! I was here two years ago and this place still lives up to my high marks. My family made some good memories again. There is a real abundance for several months. My parents just moved in to Hanford this weekend and I visited them to also check their new neighborhood. My aunt wanted to do fruit picking so I looked up local fruit stands/orchards in the area. This farm was only 3 miles from where we live. I called ahead to make sure they were open. It was still pretty hot out even at 3 pm to go fruit picking. We decided to go a little after 6 pm. Farmer/owner John came out and gave us a private tour of the farm. He took us to the right directions, briefed us on which rows have the apache blackberry varieties. He gave us some tips on how to find the ripe ones including the blueberries. His farm is run on organic practices. There were also nectarine fruits that were $1.50/lb. He gave us a ride back with his golf cart and a complimentary wine tasting! Overall it was a fun experience. Price is way better than what you pay for in costco and you know it's great quality organic fruits. I suggest wearing long pants to avoid rashes from the thorny leaves. read more

This place was a great stop on our way up to Sequoia National Park. such a charming farm and a very helpful young lady made our experience great. We got to pick some blueberries even though it was the very end of the season. They were the best blueberries I've ever had, I think they were called something like moon or blue moon. We got to walk the grounds and they even provided nice cold water and paper cups which was a blessing in the scorching summer heat. We got to pick some amazing heirloom tomatoes. We went to the stand and got to taste all of the wines, vinegars, and jams. We bought some wine, jam, and pecans in shell to take home. So precious few you-pick farms in the area. Great family fun when it's done right. So when a quick glance at this farm's facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rancho-Notso-Grande-U-Pick-BerriesFamily-Fun) tells me they're "open today" I guess I shouldn't take that at face value. We drove the 45 minutes, little one in tow, to find signs on the corner requesting that you call and they'll come open up. Tried once, left a message. Tried a 2nd time, several minutes later, and was told they're closed for the season. 2 stars only because its a small operation and I'm sure it's lovely when it's open. They just need to communicate better on their website when that is exactly, and make sure it doesn't say open when they're closed. read more

We recently moved to California and want to enjoy everything the area has to offer. Rancho Notso Grande is a true gem. You arrive, call the number and someone comes to give you little bags and explain how it all works. We were given a map of rows and off we went! Definitely wear a large brim hat and bring sunscreen. Wearing closed toes shoes is a good idea too! They don't use pesticides so you can eat as you go. I think my kids and I ate our weight in berries. We can't wait to go back! read more

Also Known As: Notso Grande Farms I'm giving it 4 stars because of how unique and special this place is. I'll get into that in a moment. As the other reviewer noted, it is a little weird to show up during "business hours" only to find the place closed (unless someone arrived there before you). That happened to me twice, and each time I called the number they have on the sign in front, and I was greeted within a few minutes. It is what it is folks, they have stuff around their farm to tend to, no need to sit around at a berry stand if nobody is there at that moment. Easy enough to call when you show up. Ok, so now that I've covered that and you know to bring your cell phone, let's talk about other things you do and don't need. You will need sun screen, floppy rimmed hats, bottled water and sun glasses. You won't need baskets, unless you really want to bring some. Otherwise, they will give you these cute little paper baggies to collect your fruit in. Now for the good part, you've slathered yourself in sun screen and are wearing your biggest floppy hat and your designer sun glasses (or maybe not, maybe you didn't listen to Teri and are in cut offs, no sun screen and a baseball cap turned backwards)... the picking begins. You and your children will run from row to row giggling as you try to pronounce names of berries you didn't even know existed. Your children will be popping berries in their mouths and before you wonder if anyone saw them do that, you will remember that you can do that. That's right, you can eat berries as you pick them and some guy named Sal and his guard dog Fluffy won't show up and try to stop you. You will feel so naughty, so naughty, but so good. You will sample all the berries, you will hear your kids yelling at you from other rows that you "have to come try this one"! You will frolic in the berry rows and I swear to you, your kids will not want to stop picking berries. Before you know it, you will have bags full of all kinds of berries. You will wonder what you will do with them all... why did these kids pick all of these!??!! You start trying to remember your Grammy's recipe for berry tarts, but you decide to make jam. Oh, how everyone loves the jam. Now, if you listened to Teri and wore sunscreen and covered yourself, you will have had a lot of fun. If not, enjoy your sun burn and let that be a lesson to you. Follow their Facebook page and you can know when berries are in season, what the current prices are, and when they are making wine.
