I had a layover at BCN and was looking for a place to snack while I waited. I could've just went to McDonald's but I can get that at home so I decided on Costa Coffee. It is located outside in the courtyard area with a huge sign "COSTA" so you can't miss it. The menu is pretty simple with coffee drinks, pastries, and other light dishes that you can snack on. I decided on an Iced Americano. I ordered and paid with CC but they also have a pretty cool automated payment machine where you can insert your bills and coins and get change from it. The baristas know limited English but they were able to get my order correct and they were very friendly. The americano was a shot of espresso with ice and water. I didn't expect the water but maybe I am not aware of how it is usually made. The americano was OK. I have had better with a bigger punch of coffee flavor. The water really watered it down. The barista though did seem to put a lot of passion into what he was doing so that seemed like a plus. At least he was tried. It was pretty pricey but I guess that is what you should expect for anything at airports. IMO, I've had better americanos but it is decent in comparison of what I would expect from an airport joint. Turns out Costa Coffee is pretty big in Europe so I could try it out again during my adventures in Europe. I probably would not come back to this location since there were other coffee places in the terminal.

I got a perfect Lavazza cappuccino that was ace tasting and it was certainly better than Starbucks. The orange juice was freshly machine-squeezed and naturally sweet tasting. The juice came out at the bottom of the machine while the orange skin was dispatched sideways. The croissant was fresh, light and crispy. There was only one server on duty who was a bit shy and reserved but I've no doubt this is reasonably explained by her lack of conversational English as a foreign language equally matched by my lack of conversational Spanish as a foreign language and of course I was the one who was the foreigner here. Oh and the technology doesn't stop here at helping to make great coffee and squeezing oranges. Oh no, customers put their payment into a machine and not to the server; coins go into a slot at the side and paper notes are fed into the front. I had exact money so it didn't need to spit out change. The bill is counted down to zero on a screen at the front of the machine as coins/notes go in and a receipt is printed automatically once the full payment is lodged. The upsides include the fact that servers handling food don't handle money - which is usually always dirty - and the server is free to focus on delivering orders but here is technology risking human employment. I'm happy to support this place.

We tried one of their chocolate desserts, a chocolate chip cookie and a matcha drink. All of them were great.. so great that I ended up buying a pistachio brookie to go. To this day we regret not buying more stuff to bring back home. The service was great and quick. The place was clean and cute to dine in with a few tables! Overall I'd definitely stop by if I'm in Barcelona again!

There were a few loaves of bread but mostly there were those sweets and it seems they have those all the time. We got a regular cinnamon roll because the flavored ones didn't have as much of the frosting on it which is the best part, and a pistachio cream rookie... no im not sure what a rookie is but it looked like a Levain cookie (the famous one from NY) as it was a mountain of a dessert. We had both treats heated up... although they weren't actually hot lol. The cinnamon roll was on par with others I've had, maybe even slightly drier but the frosting was amazing and I still enjoyed it a lot. The rookie was quite decadent and the inside was an almost cake texture? Still quite tasty but I think both would've knocked it out of the park if they were actually hot and ooey gooey. Five stars because it wasn't bad but I can't say I'm super impressed. I will be going to other gf bakeries over this one
