I saw the Hy Vee on the way to my hotel and I new I would be back later for some stuff for the fridge which I'm not going to bore you with. Hy Vee reminds me of Meijer with the great produce as you walk in and the great deli cases as you round the store and let's not forget the nice fresh seafood case. I was able find everything I was looking for and and get out quickly because unlike Walmart they have plenty of registers open with friendly people waiting to help you.

We were pleased to find most of our shopping list items (fresh fruits, deli meats and cheeses, bread, soy milk, trail mix, tissues, and beer). The only thing that they didn't have was shelf-stable soy milk, which we prefer to refrigerated milk when we travel in the RV given space constraints. The store was clean and well-organized. The check-out cashier was friendly, efficient, and accurate. Parking was free and plentiful. One oddity was that you need to deposit a quarter to get a shopping cart, returnable when you return the cart. BUT, I didn't have a quarter with me so I had to fill and carry my shopping bag as I shopped. I'm sure it wasn't their intention but it served as a deterrent to over-shopping as I'd have to carry any spontaneous selections! We would return to this store if in Galesburg again.

When you walk in there is the chips, snacks, chocolates in the first row then beer in the back along the refrigerated wall. There is milk, cheese, hummus, etc. An unusual amount of pet food and accessories like dog beds as well as housewares that take up 1-1.5 aisles. Maybe 4 aisles total in this Aldi.

You might buy some if they priced it around 50 cents, but I won't spend a dollar or more when it is that close to expiration. Also many Aldi's are being updated, more refrigeration for produce. This location could use updating for things like their fresh berries/refrigeration. But it would probably not be a good thing for them to close down while renovating.....people would have to drive too far for another location I imagine. They also a little too often, overcharge me. The sign says one price and the register rings up a higher price. I've experienced that before at other Aldi's but this one even more so.

The salad was more expensive than other market offerings but was worth it. I would skip their chips. It tasted off whether it was stale or due to the preparation process. The classical musicians in the parking lot was a bonus.
