This is one out of the box for me. For some reason, I'd never heard of Faraday's Cage but it fair jumped off the web page with its rating when we found ourselves in the area and desperately in need of brunch. It's a very satisfyingly appointed space. Excellently set out and looking and feeling mist comfortable and hip. We enjoyed the food immensely. My loved one chose the sautéed mushrooms, house baked brioche, fresh herbs, smoked mozzarella, hazelnut crumb, crisp poached egg, pumpkin purée and truffle oil. I was struck by indecision and therefore was left with the Can't Decide option. This is a breakfast board consisting of smashed avocado (of course), beetroot hummus, poached egg, sourdough toast, granola, croissant and house pressed orange juice. These were two enormously attractive dishes, looks wise and taste wise. Every element of the breakfast board was exceptionally tasty. The silence from across the table said everything about the mushroom dish. She loved it. Our coffees were also very adeptly made. Loved them too. Faraday's Cave pretty much reminds me of those things that delight one so much about Melbourne's excellent food, wine and coffee scene. There's so much quality and innovation to take in sometimes that it surprises and sometimes astonishes. If I went to this place overseas, I'd be going nuts with delight. But in super cool Melbourne it's just what's expected as normal. I ran into a young English guy a few weeks ago who loves Melbourne. His visa was expiring and he had to leave in a week and return to his home town of Bristol. This guy was seriously angst ridden about leaving. He said he just loved Melbourne. Said he thought it was one of the coolest cities on the planet. I pressed him about why it was such a great place and he said it's just such a great city to live in. Not a city to see things, he said, but to live in, and right at the top of his list about good living was food, wine and coffee which he felt were so fantastic here and superior and cheaper to his home town, London and many other places. I also know a Londoner who worked front of house at one of London's top restaurants who feels the same about our home town. She thinks it's mega cool and a foodie Mecca. We're certainly not perfect here but there are a few things we're doing well in this field. Faraday's Cage fits the Melbourne mould rather nicely and is a must do place for anyone into good breakfasts and brunches. Overall, it's a 4.2 from me. The only thing stopping a 4.5 was the service which although nicely efficient had a slightly arrogant, distant and too cool for school overlay. It may have just been the day or the shift though, and everything else for me was close to perfection. Wild horses couldn't stop me from returning here in future. read more
