They reported and had my review removed because it "contained personal attacks." Lol, fine, here it is without any, HOW YA LIKE ME NOW?
First of all, I'd like to address the recent breed of "hot chick" who might read this review. (They won't. This breed of woman doesn't actually frequent stores like this, but you'll see my point shortly.) You know the type. Your stereotypical "cute girl" who has noticed that nerd shit has somehow gotten kind of en vogue. You may have seen women like this wearing t-shirts with sayings like "I heart Nerds!" on them. Some have a business savvy side and have become "cosplay models." Yeah, those fine young ladies. I defy them to come into this store, spend a few minutes in the company of the employees, then walk out still confident in their conviction that they "heart" nerds. Because we're not talking about Chris Evans and Robert Downy Jr. here. At the fantasy shop we're talking about (REDACTED FOR THE SENSITIVE EMPLOYEES WHO CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH ABOUT THEMSELVES) people who will yell "NON CANONICAL!!!!!" in the movie theater during the latest Marvel blockbuster.
Ok I guess I should stop frothing at the mouth over how badly I DESPISE the dudes who work here and their STUPID, pathetic store, and actually tell you why. Heh. (SAYING YOU DESPISE SOMEONE OR THEIR BUSINESS ISN'T A PERSONAL ATTACK. THIS IS A REVIEW SITE)
First of all, if it's not Marvel, DC, or a similarly "superheros only" label, you won't find it here. You want Batman and crap? They got you covered. You want anything small press? And by small press I mean even labels as mainstream as say, Dark Horse or Fantagraphics? Ha, good luck. They CAN order it, but you can order from amazon.com too, you know. And the ordering thing is actually what raised my ire so badly I finally decided to come yelp these (REDACTED FOR PERSONAL INSULT THAT RHYMES WITH "HORKS")
On March 16th I stopped in with my husband with the intention of finding a particular trade papeback (yeah I read comics hence the HINT of self mockery I'm writing with). Of course they didn't have it. So I approached one of the two employees who work at this location. This dude, who's name I do know but I'll omit, is the long haired (REDACTED) dude who MAY be the owner. I'm honestly not sure. He fronts like he is. "Well *I* don't have that book but one of *MY* other stores might" is something I've heard him say multiple times. Anyway, whether he's the owner or just thinks statements like this are impressive to....someone, I'm not really sure. In any event, he is so socially maladjusted if he is the owner I seriously pity this store, because he has NO concept of customer service. I approached him while he happened to be embroiled in a heated argument with one of his buddies about the runes on Thor's hammer. Apparently it was VERY OFFENSIVE SERIOUS BUSINESS that the runes on the hammer in the Marvel films were Celtic, not Nordic. How do I know this? Because I sat there for a good 15 minutes (no exaggeration) while the employee and his buddy discussed it at length. I'd like to mention it was pretty clear I was a CUSTOMER, not someone looking to join their conversation. He didn't even acknowledge me. He just continued his rage spiral with his friend until I finally got frustrated enough to interrupt.
"Excuse me, I have a question about a book?" I interject. (REDACTED) employee/possible owner turns to me, with a look of befuddlement like he was truly shocked a customer was asking him a question. But god forbid he just answer. What's he do? He asks ME what I think about the runes on the damn Thor hammer! I AM SERIOUS! Then he starts his conversation about how offensive the inconsistency is anew! BEAR IN MIND, I'd been present, waiting the entire time for him to SHUT UP and attend to me, AS A CUSTOMER WITH MONEY TO SPEND IN HIS STORE. I already heard this, bruh! And my question isn't about the stupid runes on Thor's stupid hammer! It's about a book I want to PURCHASE. Well he doesn't have it. He'll order it. He does so and tells me it'll be in in a week. I check back every week for the next 3. No dice. Finally I get a call this past tuesday telling me it's in. I tell him I'll be in on Friday to pick it up. I do so. I wait about 20 min to attract the "owner's" attention and ask about my order. He looks, it's not there. I already know it's not there. Wanna know why? Because I already found it myself. ON THE SHELF.
So I place an order, you CALL ME *over a month later* to tell me it's in and waiting for me, but he ACTUALLY PUT IT ON THE SHELF. MY SPECIAL ORDER. ON THE SHELF. WHERE SOMEONE ELSE COULD HAVE BOUGHT IT. Kind of defeats the purpose of you ordering it for ME doesn't it, Amazon it is you (REDACTED). (REDACT YOURSELF!)
