What an incredible spot! Every summer I come over here for my fruit and chili fix. The people who run the cart are so friendly. They give you slices of fruit as they make your bowl and check to make sure the spice level is to your liking. The portions are super generous and the fruit is perfectly ripe. What a great food cart!! We stopped by on a weekend and ordered a combination of mangoes and watermelon. The fruits were cut to perfection by individuals wearing gloves and aprons. After driving past this place for 12 years, I finally decided to stop and try it. Good gawd, what have I been waiting for!? I had no idea what to order, and I don't speak any Spanish. I basically just walked up and said "Fruit?" They were super kind, walking me through the various options, and as they prepared what was essentially the MTV Cribs of fruit cups, they kept asking, "Do you like cucumber? How about coconut?" As the very skilled knife-user continued to chop up whole halves of melon, coconut, and mangoes, I just thought to myself, "Who else ordered the fruit cup? Cause that ain't fitting into any single cup I've ever seen." Turns out, it was all for me. I'm not kidding when I say that, for $9, I got at least 2 lbs of fruit. My fruit cup was the size of a full gallon of ice cream. TRUE STORY. Plus, as they prepared it, they continuously gave me and my toddler huge pieces of fruit to taste. They topped our fruit selection with salt, lime, chili, and fresh orange juice. It was beyond delicious. Do yourself a favor: STOP AT THIS PLACE! Wait in line, question what the hype is all about, be mesmerized watching them cut and pack beautiful fruit in a cup, and have your mouth water until it's your turn. It's not just plain ol fruit in a cup people! It's fruit that I hear they purchase from Mexico jazzed up with some chili powder, salt, fresh lime juice and a little fresh orange juice. The prices vary from 6 bucks, 8 bucks and 10 bucks, 6 being the smaller cup (but it could feed 2 people). They even will give you samples of fruit while your waiting so you know what your in for. I hear they make a fruit gazpacho which is diced fruit marinated in the oj, lime, orange juice, chili powder and salt. I got the small cup of watermelon, mango and coconut and my greedy self devoured the whole thing before walking only 3 blocks! I think I'll pay them a visit tomorrow for a delicious healthy fix! read more

my bf and i were just strolling around rogers park after eating at susie's noon hour grill and were really craving something refreshing after our satisfying diner meal. luckily, we passed by fantastik fruit cart on the street corner and managed to catch it on its last open weekend for the year! this fruit cart is an absolute gem of chicago's fruit scene. its an entire operation with multiple tables and a small team of passionate individuals each dedicated and masterful in their craft. for example, there was this guy chopping pineapples and squeezing orange juice so quickly that i was low-key losing my mind by how amazing it was! it's been there for 20 years, and with the way they're running things, i know they'll be there for many more! we ordered a small container of pineapple with chili, lime, and salt for six dollars and it was HUGE!! the pineapple was overflowing out of the container and we must have had at least 2 pounds of fruit to divulge in. we hadn't been there before so they gave us a sample piece of pineapple with all of their homemade chili and they were all delicious!!!!!! the pineapple itself was super sweet and fresh and with all the seasoning was the PERFECT snack and so so refreshing. u won't find fruit this flavorful anywhere else in chicago and boi is it a treat :) read more

After having passed it many times in the car or without cash when on foot, today I finally was in the right place at the right time with cash in my wallet. I love fresh fruit and I've long been interested in trying it prepared this way with salt and chili powder and cheese. I went with the big bucket of fruit for $9, and while they prepared it they gave me a mango pit on a stick, cut up a bit so it was easier to eat. They also gave me some honeydew melon as a sampler. It was fascinating to watch them efficiently chopping and creating my cup of fruit along with orders for other people. They stacked fruit 4-5 inches higher than the top of the cup, necessitating the plastic bag they put the cup in. I was amazed at how much fruit and juice and toppings they put on! It was stacked so high that when I took the cup away after paying and wasn't paying attention, some extra pieces of fruit they gave me fell too the sidewalk. Woe! I'm looking forward to many more visits this summer and all the future summers. They said they'll probably be open until October. read more

Probably the best part of living in Rogers Park in the summertime. Huge portions of super fresh fruit! I like to get the large "bucket" with pineapple, mango, watermelon, chile, salt, lime and orange juice. Ask them for easy salt if you don't like it too salty. Also, you get to see them make it which is fun. Often they hand you a sample piece of fruit! Only reason I'm not giving them five stars is one of the guys straight up lied to me about putting orange juice in my order. I watched him make it! He doesn't put it in. I ask him for OJ. He says it's in there. Eating on the walk home, all we taste is lime juice. Don't be rude, lazy, or dishonest to your customers. Especially when they are big fans and can bring you word of mouth business. read more

This place is a gem of the neighborhood! Every time we go by there are people lined up, so today we finally stopped. The staff is very welcoming and they prepare the fruit exactly to your liking. We were given samples of the fruit and spices/sauces, and everything is cut fresh right in front of you. We got cantaloupe, pineapple, watermelon, and mango, with chili and tamarind sauce, which they drizzled with fresh lime juice. They also have coconut, strawberries, honeydew, kiwi, and probably more.
