As others have mentioned, John is very good at doing his job. We used him to move a 1930s 5'2" Baldwin baby grand for a very reasonable price, and he's insured, so we have assurance the piano will arrive in good shape. He even re-tighten up some mounting plate screws that were lose from when we purchased the piano. The only thing was I was surprised to see him show up with a pick-up truck and a trailer instead of what he said originally was a box truck. Apparently his truck was in service. No wonder he's really good, fast, and safe, he's been doing this for over 18 yrs. He used to work for another company, .... Sound Piano, but after the company didn't take care of him he started his own biz. Good for him! He really knows what he's doing. His communication was also excellent. His son was also a big helper. I really appreciate family business like this. Plus he's local in Pleasanton. Not only he's good with moving pianos, he's also very good with piano tuning, voicing, regulating, and restoration. He has a warehouse full of pianos to be restored. His operation is low cost and he has a ton of good quality pianos at reasonable price. He also lets you know how to take care of your pianos, especially old/antique ones like what we bought. read more

I have used the services of Fancy Sound Piano three times over the last 4 years. The first time John helped me move a small grand piano from a house with very tricky twisting stairs. I don't know how he managed it but he got the piano safely out and to my new place. He also tuned it for me. The next time I called John was to move he piano out of my apartment and to store it for me. He took it to his temperature controlled storage facility and stored it while I was working abroad for 2 years. It was great not to have to worry about it while I was gone. Just last week I used Fancy Sound Piano service again. I needed to move back to the east coast and wanted to try to take my piano with me. I called John and even after 2 years he remembered me and my piano. He arranged to deliver my piano to my shipping company's truck. He brought the piano all safely wrapped up, in a piano truck stand to hold it for its cross country trip. His moving company brought a special fork lift and placed it in the moving truck and strapped it in. His service and care with my piano was incredible. I highly recommend Fancy Sound Piano for any of your piano needs.john is both reliable, punctual, careful, and knowledgeable. read more

I found John's Craigslist ad for piano moving - and he was immediately responsive and coordinated with me to get a piano moved. His rate seemed reasonable ($200) and he has insurance. He communicates promptly if there are changes to his schedule due to traffic - and he's nicely dressed, respectful of others' property and courteous. He also has piano tuning services and has some pianos to sell (big pianos!), and can connect customers to a network of piano teachers. read more

Good service, reasonable price. I would like to recommend John's piano moving company to others.

I never write reviews but in this case I will, because John is accommodating to the customer and will do his best to make the customer happy. He moved my grand piano from San Rafael to Pleasanton and even though there were some obstacles with the hours of the gated community we live in, he ensured that I will get it as soon as possible. He always kept us informed and I was just very happy that he knows what he's doing. I will definitely call them back to tune my piano! read more

I did a google search for piano movers and was taken to a site called Thumbtack where you submit a request for what you need..in my case it was to move a huge antique armoire which was so big movers couldn't get it up the stairs! My request was to be submitted and I was to receive a number of responses from such movers. The only one to respond was Fancy Sound Piano..and am I lucky they did! They arrived early to the site and worked relentlessly to hoist the large piece over the upstairs balcony..no lift..just brute strength, teamwork, and lots of experience. They were friendly, hard working guys..and fairly priced. I have absolutely no reservations in recommending Fancy Sound Piano for any specialized moving needs! AAA+++ read more

John responded promptly when I called him on a weekend. Scheduling the piano move was quick and easy. He showed up when he said he would, and there were no problems at all. I look forward to having him tune my piano as well once it's "settled." He gives you a discount for the tuning if he moves it. Very happy I found Fancy Sound Piano! read more

I found John's information on Craigslist and checked the reviews about him here after. He is nice and effective to respond to me for arranging the moving. At the day, they showed up on time and very cared about all the things. I calculated the wrong steps but John was generous for not charging more than the estimated fee. I highly recommend him to all my friends. read more

I called this company yesterday to get a quote on moving and since my landlord does not want anyone uninsured on his property i inquired about insurance and was told verbally over the phone the he had all the insurances required and he went on and on about how he moves big expensive pianos for the Steinway Piano Co all the time etc so I asked him if he could provide proof of insurance like General Liability and Workers Comp so I could forward it to my landlord and he said yeah sure and sends me over a copy of an auto insurance policy. lol. I had to laugh. I called him back and called him out on it and asked again "do you have general liability and Workers Comp?" Yeah Yeah I have everything needed he said and i said so why don't you send that to me then? I never heard back or received any proof of insurance after that. I guess he thinks people are stupid and can try to pass off his auto insurance policy to people and make people think that is what is truly required. That's great that he has auto insurance at least HIS vehicle is covered in case of an accident but that does not cover any damage to the piano or the hardwood floors or anyone getting injured if something goes wrong. I may not know much about the piano moving business but I DO KNOW ABOUT BUSINESS and that by law he is required to have General Liability and Workers Comp as well if he has employees. This morning I called 4 other places and no one seems to be able to provide proof with the exception of Bay Area Piano Movers. They sent me what my landlord is looking for thank God! I also learned there is another type of coverage required called Cargo insurance for while pianos are on the truck and driving from one location to another. So I am going with them. In conversation I was also told that piano movers or any movers need to be licensed by the PUC and post their insurance policies on the PUC website and have what is called an MTR #. The owner at Bay Area Piano Movers explained to me how to look that up online and see if a said company is legit or not. I looked up all the companies I called and the only one I see on there is Bay Area Piano Movers. I probably would have just moved on and not wrote this but I just did not appreciate being told he has insurance but then cannot provide proof and if it turns out he does not have it he really PUTS US ALL AT RISK. Not cool! read more
