My piano which had not been tuned since 2002, was tuned perfectly over a series of two visits. James Frederickson was the expert who tuned my piano. He also shared some tips about cleaning piano keys and keeping the piano in tune. The fee was reasonable, too. I unconditionally recommend Denzil's Piano Service. read more

Thorough piano tuning and great service! I've used them 4 or 5 times over the years. I've never had a problem.

James did a great job! He was prompt, friendly, and did excellent work efficiently. My piano sounds great for an upcoming house concert. Highly recommend! read more

I was referred to Denzil by my child's piano teacher. Embarrassingly enough, my Yamaha upright of 7 years has never been tuned. I was not able to schedule with Denzil himself since he was unavailable however, James came out and did a fantastic job of taking care of my piano. (He didn't even judge me for going this long with an untuned piano! lol) I originally scheduled for a regular tuning however, my piano did need a pitch correction as well. I was more than happy to pay the extra cost and relieved that James was able to perform that service in the allotted appointment time. It would've been a bummer to reschedule since I had to make sure there was no background noise and the house was completely silent. (Not easy for a large family with kids & dogs!) James patiently explained what he had to do and added some interesting piano tidbits as well. I was assured that I would get reminder emails and texts for annual piano tuning so I wouldn't forget to schedule future appointments. Great service! read more

They might be ok for a tuning, but if you have an actual issue that needs fixing, I would recommend a technician instead. As in a certified RPT. The person they sent was not Denzil, nor was he able to fix any of my piano issues, but still charged me for it. read more

A Masterful Transformation of My Centenarian Piano by Denzil!! I cannot say enough good things about Denzil and his exceptional piano service and expertise. Dealing with pianos, particularly modern ones, might be straightforward for many, but my piano's journey is a tale of more than a century. Its age brought a multitude of challenges, making it less than enjoyable to play. Previously, I ventured into the world of piano tuning with varied experiences. Hiring tuners from Craigslist, I encountered what they termed 'light' and 'deep' tunings. Despite their efforts, the results were underwhelming. The piano's tone and character remained uninviting, which led me to seldom play it. My quest for a solution brought me to Yelp, and thankfully so, as I discovered Denzil. His approach to piano servicing is nothing short of artisanal. Denzil's entry into my home was marked by a vibrant, friendly energy, paired with a palpable expertise that was immediately distinguishable. One of the most impressive aspects was his use of an atlas - a tool I hadn't known existed. It not only confirmed the piano's age but also linked its history through serial numbers, adding a layer of authenticity to its story. But Denzil's service went beyond mere technical proficiency. He had a remarkable ability to identify and address issues I had only sensed intuitively. His restoration work on my piano was comprehensive, breathing new life into its sound and feel. The result was a harmonious blend of keys and strings, transforming the instrument into a unified source of musical joy, rather than the disjointed experience I had grown accustomed to. In terms of value, Denzil's service was unparalleled. Ironically, his fee mirrored that of a prior tuner, yet the quality and outcome were exponentially superior. The restored sound quality, the seamless playability, and the overall rejuvenation of my piano were truly remarkable. Beyond his technical prowess, Denzil is personable, engaging, and a delight in conversation. His stories added an enjoyable dimension to the entire experience. In summary, I am immensely grateful for Denzel's service. His skill, combined with his approachable nature, makes him an exceptional choice for anyone seeking piano tuning and restoration. A full five-star experience, and I wholeheartedly recommend his service. With Denzel, disappointment is off the table. read more

I have an Apollo full size upright piano. This is my first time having the piano tuning service by Denzil's. The gentleman was on time. He answers my questions very patiently. One of my questions was about the peeling condition in the parts that received the hammering then strike the strings. He told me not to worry about it at this point. It would take 50 years to have to replace them. That was a relief!! Then he focused on the tuning. After about 40 minutes, it was all done. The piano sounds great now! read more

Denzil's Piano Service - My piano - Musical Instruments & Teachers Near Me - San Leandro, California

I inherited my grandma's piano that had not been tuned or cleaned since it was purchased 45 years ago. This was my first time having it serviced, and was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy it was to book an appointment! Their website has a lot of helpful information as well. Craig was able to tune, clean, and even gave very helpful feedback regarding one of the broken legs. The piano sounds great, and I'll definitely be a repeat customer. read more

I left the key under the mat and a check on the piano and James came and tuned it up while I was away at work. When I got home, I went straight to the piano and it sounded better than ever. James left me a note saying he closed the windows to reduce the noise so he could tune the piano better - and he didn't let the cat escape, either. Recommend Denzil's Piano Service with highest praise. I am looking forward to repairs on the action when they have time. read more

Prompt, professional, personable - good value for the piano tuning service. Not sure if it's improved my playing but the sounds I make are now recording studio quality. read more

Very professional. Had much more equipment and expertise than the last piano tuner we had. My daughter is pleased with the way her piano sounds. Happy to have found someone professional and local! read more

Best Piano tuning service in town. We have been using their service for many years - they are simply the best. Punctual, accurate and reasonably priced. Craig has been coming to our home for the last two years and he is simply fabulous. read more

We were looking to buy a used piano for my daughter. Since I don't play the piano myself, and my daughter and her teacher weren't available to try out the piano in person, I enlisted on rather short notice the service of Denzil to help with evaluating the piano. From the very beginning, Denzil's communication was great. He arrived a few minutes early, spent a lot of time looking at the piano, answered all the questions and concerns I had about the piano, and conducting himself in a professional and friendly manner throughout. We ended up purchasing the piano based on Denzil's assessment, and the piano has performed very well up to our expectation. read more

Great customer service. My piano was tuned by someone else but after the guy left, I found out that I had a squeaky pedal. I called that guy back but he refused to return. I called Mr Denzil and he was willing to come to do the relative small job just to fix the squeaky pedal. Then later I realized there was a vibration noise on some notes. Mr Denzil returned the next day to help me take care of that too. Great customer support. Highly recommend. read more

I found Denzil's piano service on Piano Technicians Guild website. Denzil rescued my piano which has not been tuned for over 20 years. After he tuned the piano, it sounds like a masterpiece. He is very knowledgeable, efficient, on-time, and such a wonderful person to work with. Highly recommend! read more

Denzil is a first-class professional, and now the only piano tuner I ever intend to use in Fremont. I recently purchased a baby grand piano that had not been tuned in years. He came to my home, was very pleasant to talk to, and gave me sound advice on how to care for my new, used piano. He took his time to make sure the piano was properly tuned, he graciously assisted me in putting floor protectors underneath the castors of the piano, and was willing to come back to clean the piano, as it had not been dusted under the strings in ages. As a piano teacher, I would gladly refer him to future students. He is trustworthy, and very wise. He will make you feel at ease in your home, and is happy to answer questions you have on your beloved instrument. Denzil's Piano Service is the way to go, if you want quality of service and trustworthy service for your piano. read more

Denzil did a thorough, professional job tuning our piano. It sounds great now, I'm happy to recommend him, and look forward to using his service in the future. read more

Denzil was referred to us by a music therapist friend. We wanted to purchase a used baby grand piano for my extraordinarily talented son who is in the autistic spectrum. He not only found an ideal Yamaha G5, but one that had a single owner. He maintained and tuned for said piano over 15 years. We purchased the 1978 Yamaha G5 5 years ago, and Denzil continues to tune our G5 as our son has greatly expanded his abilities and talents. We look forward to Denzil's work on our piano for years to come! read more

Denzil's Piano Service has tuned two different pianos for us over the past nineteen years with excellence. The sound of the piano has always been wonderfully improved after being tuned. Many times, due to our schedule, Denzil is provided a key to tune the piano while we're away. He is trustworthy and does a wonderful job. read more

Denzil has been tuning my pianos for about 10 years now. He has always been excellent and responsive. When my grand piano got significantly water and smoke damaged, he rebuilt it entirely and did a beautiful job. I highly recommend him both for re-tunings and rebuilds. read more

My mistake on the first appointment. He is nice about it. Will probably turn over the piano for major maintenance it deserves in the hands of Denzil. read more

I care about my pianos. When I first moved out on my own, many years ago, I purchased a piano before buying bed, couch or pretty much anything else. At that time I tried different piano tuners based on friends' recommendations. I was surprised that the cost of the tuning didn't seem to have much to do with the quality of the work or knowledge of pianos. I have perfect pitch; when a piano isn't tuned right, it may just grate on my nerves - or it may make the piano almost unplayable for me when the wrong tone comes out as I hit the correct key. But I've never had to worry about that with Denzil. He's been tuning my pianos now for about two decades, and I'm hoping he never retires. Denzil tunes the pianos quickly, accurately, and for a very fair price. He knows pianos and the industry, one time telling me about a manufacturer's offer to upgrade my piano for a minimal cost due to a change in materials - something I would never have known about if it weren't for Denzil. He gives me tips and answers questions about how to better maintain my piano, has helped me look for new pianos, and to understand better how to evaluate a potential purchase. Whenever I'm there he's always arrived promptly at the designated time and is easy to talk with. Couldn't be a nicer person to have tune your piano. And you can SO trust him. I've been leaving the key for Denzil now for, well, probably nearly two decades. I leave a check, and when I return I find a carefully locked home, a receipt, and a piano beautifully in tune again. A couple of times I forgot to leave the check or he couldn't find it, and he just tuned it for me anyhow, knowing a check would arrive in the mail. Don't think I could recommend Denzil any more highly. If you need your piano tuned, call him now. You won't regret it. read more

Denzil has been tuning my pianos for years. I purchased a Steinway Model M a few years ago. At that time, I had a few different turners tuning that piano. None can be compared to Denzil's quality, efficiency, and cost. I have no problem recommending Denzil to my friends. read more

My piano sounds fantastic!! I have a Yamaha grand piano that Denzil tuned today, and what a world of difference in the sound. I have tried a few different piano tuners throughout the years and Denzil is by far the best. He tuned my piano in the mid-90's and I was lucky to find him again when I was looking for a tuner. Denzil's prices are reasonable and he is very efficient. He quickly responded when I requested an appointment, called the day before to remind me and arrived right on time. My search is over for finding a regular piano tuner . . . Denzil it is! read more

Denzil came highly recommended by my mother in law who runs a large multi-piano music school. I am spoiled from using many different Piano Sample Libraries and Soft Synths that can change tuning and temper at the click of a mouse (Pianoteq, TruePianos, Ivory, Soundiron Emotional Piano, Sampletekk etc. ) but still there's nothing like the real thing. A couple years ago I purchased an old upright that has great quality sound but was badly out of tune and sounded like mud with any close piano voicings. Denzil is a guy with a great sense of humor, immediately puts you at ease (you want someone you can trust when you invite someone you don't know into your house) very professional and does an amazing job in a short amount of time (a quality job is great but unfortunately I don't have all day to sit around and wait for my piano to be tuned.....he was at my door at 7:30 am, and my piano transformation was done by 8:30 - perfect for my schedule :) Absolutely beautiful overtones on my piano once he was done with it. Thanks so much Denzil, I think you may have converted me back to acoustic piano ;) read more

A knowledgeable technician. I use him for my home piano, and my church uses his services regularly for multiple pianos. I have recommended to friends who have been happy with his service, as well. Will certainly use again. read more

Very professional and knowledgeable. Even came out for a free follow-up when I was hearing a rattle. Thanks, Denzil!

I am retired from 41 years of piano teaching in my home. When I found Denzil 30+ years ago, I was hooked! Teaching involves training the ear as well as how to read and play music. Denzil's skills kept, and continues to keep my piano tuned and in excellent working order, making it a joy to play. I highly recommend this man of integrity, a person I can trust to be prompt and efficient. read more

As a music conservatory student and ardent amateur pianist, I have had tuners work on my Mason-Hamlin and Steinway grands for 40 years. Denzil stands out as perhaps the best tuner in my experience -- his tuning last well, they are pitch perfect, he is personally pleasant and helpful on questions, and his is fast (often a tell-tale sign of a good tuner as it means that he can turn the tuning fork just right on the first try) p.s. relatively expensive in dollar terms, but a good buy as the tuning is better and more durable signed Franklin Huddle, Ambassador (ret.)d read more

I found Denzil's Piano Service on Yelp. I decided to hired him because of his good ratings, but was still a bit hesitant since I did not know him. Long story short: He deserves all of the 5 stars. Denzil is great. So professional and knowledgeable. Always on time and does an outstanding job. Last time we had a buzz in our piano as well and while tuning did a quick fix that was very impressive. read more

Denzil is very professional and is excellent at what he does. I recently got an old piano from Craigslist. Denzil was able to tell me more about the type of piano it is and approximately how old it is as well. He tuned my piano and it sounds so great! Denzil is professional, friendly, and skilled. We appreciated his tuning services.

Denzil has tuned our piano for many, many years. We had other piano tuners but were always unhappy with the results until we were referred to Denzil. Since then, he's the only one we trust with our piano. He's always on time, confirms the appointment the day before and is professional and friendly. Thank you, Denzil! read more

This is an update. Two years later, and I have since been studying with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. My Kawai GM-10 still sounds beautiful, thanks to Denzil's expert care. He is really very nice. I recommend him most highly! read more

I found Denzil thru a friend who also uses him to tune her piano, and she found him thru her long-time piano teacher. I could not have been more delighted with his service. He has tuned our 30-year old upright piano every six months since we purchased it used in 2010. He took it from an out-of-tune disaster that sounds great even when my 6yo plays it. Denzil is prompt - shows up when he says he will - and is quick. He is also a nice person - someone you want to work with and can trust to have in your home. read more

My wife's baby grand has been out of tune for 12 years and we have moved to new homes twice. We were referred to Denzil by Allegro Music at Fremont, CA. Denzil is very professional and responded quickly to our inquiry for appointment. He came on time as scheduled and did a good job for the first as well as the second visit. He even fixed one of the key which was kind of sticky before at no extra cost. My wife was very happy with the quality of work. We will definitely stay tuned with Denzil for future maintenance and repair. read more

I am lucky enough to have had Denzil tune our pianos in Castro Valley for more than 20 years. He is not only very skilled at his profession, but also a pleasure to work with. He has kept our old piano in top shape through the years (including cleaning the piano interior after remodeling the house, as mentioned in another review!) He really knows his stuff - and it is a pleasure to hear him 'test out' the keys when he is finished tuning, by playing a few bars of one of his beautiful compositions. We highly recommend Denzil - can't imagine anyone better! read more
