Famous Belgian Waffles is the waffle kiosk that I will never forget. A bit of a story, but when I was a senior in high school I had this best friend who was a guy, and I didn't think of him as anything other than a friend, but there were a ton of people telling me that he liked me, and I was deathly afraid it was true because it was gonna screw up our awesome friendship. Regular teenage drama right? Well, on Valentine's Day, he asked me to go with him to Glorietta, since our school was only walking distance away. I asked him why and his only explanation was that he had a "suprise" for me. I was so nervous the whole walk to the mall that I didn't say a thing and he kept asking me if I was okay. In my mind I was preparing my "gentle rejection" speech, and emotionally steeling myself for the eventual fallout of our friendship. We went to the food court where he told me to sit down at a table and not follow him so he could "get my surprise." At that point I felt like I crying, and was contemplating just leaving. Good thing I didn't!
Turns out, he just wanted to get me a waffle, because I'd been going on and on and on and on about waffles that whole damn week. It was a peanut butter waffle, because he and I were both peanut butter freaks, and I remember being so relieved and feeling so silly about the whole thing that the waffle suddenly tasted a thousand times better. Not that it didn't already taste awesome, but that kind of relief really makes everything better you know? Anyway, I always go back because their waffles are so buttery and golden and lovely, and accompanied with my silly memory of Valentine's Day their waffles never fail to put a smile on my face. (It also helps that they're ridiculously cheap?) read more
