What a cool place! Stopped here on a trip back to South Georgia from Pensacola. It was really fun looking for the sinkholes lining Sink Hole Trail. Both the fall and the lake were short hikes. Not to mention, the waterfall was amazing! The fall was accessible via a boardwalk overlooking Florida's highest waterfall. The fall is described by the park as "a 100-foot deep, 20-foot wide cylindrical pit into which flows a small stream that drops 73 feet to the bottom of the sink." Florida, the state where the ground beneath your feet can collapse without warning at any given moment. Both metaphorically and literally. Case and point, Falling waters state park. Home of some of the coolest holes in the ground and Florida's wildest waterfall. Activity and things to see are kind of limited, but they're unique. You can walk the platform which leads you around a few sinkholes and to the waterfall in about 30 min, to include a photoshoot session or two. There is also a lake you can go for a swim in but it looks like the kind of lake that has sharkators (shark / alligator hybrid), so you probably won't come back out. Last think worth checking out is the cute little open butterfly garden which is by the restrooms in the main parking. That really sums this place up. Nothing wild but definitely worth checking out IMO. I think it would be super awesome if they allowed you to rappel or make your way down the bigger holes but I'm sure that is way too much of a liability. If you're one of those RV "Campers", they've got lots for you to park your trash box. Tip: If you're coming for the waterfall, you might want to give the park a call to make sure it's dripping. It's best during the wet season as it seems to rely on the lake. read more

The park is clean well-maintained and has a beautiful walkway to the waterfall and to the lake. The waterfall was created from a sinkhole and the day that we went there it was flowing very steady you were able to see all the way down to the bottom of the sinkhole absolutely amazing! Hoping to see the tallest waterfall in Florida, I arrived to find that construction blocked the view of the gorgeous waterfall. The park has a playground, a swimming area and some boardwalks through the forest where you get to view sinkholes and the waterfall. When I pulled up to the gate, I made sure to ask if the waterfall was flowing, but I guess I should've asked if there was any construction blocking my view. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there since the trails were really short and there were an awful lot of people out at the park the day I went. But the waterfall and sinkholes were really very amazing if you are anything like me and love that sort of thing. We walked the whole park and they had a nice little swimming area, clean restrooms, a small camping area (that looked pretty cramped). They did have one camping area that made me wish I was 10 again - it had a big area for lots of tents, and a firepit with benches around (made for a group of kids like boyscouts or something). Bottomline - its a fun hour long adventure if you are in the area, but don't make a trip for it unless you have other places you are planning to visit. read more

Small but we loved it. The trails ( I think 3 in all) take about 30-45 minutes. $5 per car to get in. When you get to the waterfall, you just can't help but to stare at the top of fall and then follow the stream down a 60? feet sink hole. You just try to picture the cause of this real life kitchen faucet calling down a natural pipe and wondering where the water is going and why it never fills up. We took a 10 year old with us and who said that the sink hole trail was his favorite part of the trip. He was talking about the trail of a group of 5 sink holes that I think he could have stayed there all day staring down these various formations of holes. BTW - there is a very nice playground / bathrooms / shelter to have lunch for a family to have lunch while there. Vacation suggestion: FRIDAY: We stayed in Panama City (Beachcomber with private balcony and kitchenette suites). SATURDAY: Drove to a little over an hour to Falling Waters State Park and then back to PCB. SUNDAY: Drove to Florida Caverns SP ( 1 1/2 hour drive) and then went to Tallahassee to stay the night since the capitol was on our way home. I hope this review helps. read more

The waterfall was cool to see. Tallest in FL at 70+ feet. The swim area wasn't desirable to us. Walking trails are nice and there are picnic areas too. Playground next to covered pavilion with tables and charcoal grill. Restrooms were very clean. $5 per car, and they take credit cards. read more

Our family was on a family road trip from Louisiana to Jacksonville, FL, and we stopped in Chipley, FL for the night. The next day we decided to do some adventuring out to Falling Waters State Park with our kids, ages 3 & 5. We hiked the trail to the waterfall and sinkholes. The waterfall was just a trickle this day, but I've heard that right after a rain it looks really neat. After hiking to the waterfall, we walked the boardwalk with all of the sinkholes. The kids thought that those were neat. We then hiked upwards to the lake and had some family fun in the lake At the late, there are also some picnic tables that we ate our lunch and snacks at. There are more trails to hike at this park, but we did not have time to do them this time. We had a great time here, and we made a video on YouTube about it. 73' Waterfall into a sinkhole! Highest drop/waterfall in the state of Florida! You pull into the parking lot and look through the trees and almost think there are mountains on the horizon- hills and valleys are common in this area. Step out of your car and breathe in the woodsy fresh air. This is my second time here- both in the winter months with a wonderful crispness in the air- perfect for a hike! The waterfall isn't far from the parking lot- you can hear the water calling for you to come and explore! A short stroll down the paved sidewalk meets a boardwalk that leads you to the head of the falls. There are 2 view points- one lower and one upper. Best selfies at the lower one, great photography ops for the upper. Set up your tripod or use the flat (for your camera) posts on the railings to slow your shutter for great shots! After photo play time- go up the stairs and take the boardwalk for a hike through the woods. If you don't have a lot of time- there is a smaller loop that will put you just off the parking lot (almost where you started)- the larger loop takes you towards the lake and up and around to the backside of the parking lot! Lots of birds~ there is a swimming area for summertime, camping available too! If you go after rain- the falls will be stronger. Have fun! Visit your State Parks! read more

This is a fairly small state park with some short hiking trails which pass dramatic fern covered limestone karst sinkholes under a canopy of magnolias and hardwoods, the largest plunge waterfall in Florida, pine forest, and a small artificial lake/swimming hole.. There is camping. The swimming hole had a lot of kids when I was there and the park is small enough that you can hear their laughter and conversation carrying through the woods in much of the park.. Call ahead to make sure the waterfalls has flow, because in dry season there may be almost nothing.. The flow rate is pretty low, Niagara Falls this ain't.. However, the waterfall and sinkholes are quite interesting, in addition to the vegetation and some historical information about the area, such as the fact that this was the site of Florida's first attempt to drill for oil. In a couple hours you can see everything here. The park is very close to the sleepy , highly bible-beltish town of Chipley, which does have some very nice , historic homes to look and a few restaurants if you feel like walking around there beforehand or afterwards.. There is a campground in the park.. If you are cruising along I-10 this park is worth stopping for, otherwise perhaps worth it if you combine a visit here with some other activities during the same day.. read more

I drived a couple of hours just to visit this park being that it is the only waterfall in FL. I went on a Thursday afternoon and to my luck there was no one else there. So we had the opportunity of taking a lot of pictures and admiring the waterfall. I don't think the pictures give the waterfall justice because it is much prettier and bigger than what I thought in person. There are sink holes that you could walk around and take a look at and I recommend bringing bug spray because there are a lot of mosquitoes. You can probably spend about just an hour in this park and I definitely recommend coming to see the waterfall!! read more

We came out here to see the waterfall. We saw it before a rainstorm and after one. It was really neat to see both. When it runs slow and steadily, you can see the bottom of the sinkhole it runs into. When it pours and rushes, it's quite an incredible sight, but you can't see the bottom at all. We were sad that the sinkhole trail is temporarily closed, so we'll have to come check it out when it reopens. We didn't swim, but the little lake area looks nice and family friendly. We liked seeing the recycle locations, firewood at the ranger station, and the geocache. We stayed at a campsite for the night, and we enjoyed a couple of the local restaurants while we were here. In May/June there's also a U-Pick Blueberry place just a couple miles down the road that was really great. read more

This was a beautiful park with a fair amount of hiking trails. The pricing was good, but if you are on a bicycle or hiking be aware that the path into the park is very hilly. There was a lot of maintenance going on along the hiking paths when we were there but overall it was a very pleasant experience. read more

My mother and I made the trip over from Tallahassee after visiting the Marianna Caverns. The water was just trickling but I was happy it was flowing at all. Mosquitoes were definitely buzzing so if you're staying for longer than a couple pictures than a bug spray may be worth getting. We took the boardwalk that led up and over the water source to the fall and was amazed to see that you couldn't even see it or hear it from that vantage point and would have had no clue it even existed had you just been walking along. read more

I live in South FL and was visiting the panhandle for a camping trip. I saw many beautiful locations but this was NOT one of them. There was a extremely small boardwalk path with 3 sink holes and 1 waterfall. It was very lame. On top of that the bordwalks were only partially ok open due to construction with no notification on the website or at the gate. The man at the gate was very polite and had no problem taking my money however he did not give me information that half the attraction was closed. Very disappointing! read more

This was a small, but charming State Park. The water fall was breath taking, but not because of it's size. As you walk down the stairs into the sinkhole to get a better look you feel the air cool around you, it's hard not to lose your breath when you look over the edge and watch the water as it falls into an underground water way. There is also a nice little beach to swim at, playground, and some huge sinkholes all within a 20-minute hike of the campsites. If your there on a Saturday night be sure and ask if Ranger Scott Sweeny is giving a demonstration. I read about it in a review before we went and it was everything they promised. My 17 and 19 year olds had seen a million Rangers give a million lectures and thought they had seen it all, but when the 2 year old got a case of the wiggles I couldn't pry them away! My husband and I had to rock paper scissors it to see who was going to get to see the second half. Luckily for me my paper beat his rock! Oh, one more treat! The senior volunteers who help make the park run smoothly. They greet you at the gate with a warm welcome, and stay over night in the campground to make sure all goes well. They even make sure the bathrooms stayed sparkly. Truly a rare state for a campsite bathroom! read more
