I will take only the most important family heirlooms to Mauro (Franco) at Fallani's Restoration in Costa Mesa from now on! In February I inherited my Grandmother's cedar chest. She received it as a wedding gift in approximately 1944. After a lot of research, a local company told me about Fallani's Restoration. When I dropped it off to Mauro at Fallani's, he asked for the history. I told him it is my paternal Grandmother's cedar chest; how the piece has passed from one family member to the next; and how I really want my Father to see his Mother's cedar chest fully restored before he passes. Mauro took all of this to heart and said "I want to make it perfect for your family." Today I picked up the piece and I can wholeheartedly say he did exactly that! My family is so pleased, and we are especially happy that during the entire restoration I told Mauro "restore it as if it was yours." Some were simple refinishing projects, but others required fabricating missing pieces of wood. He did a masterful job on all of them. A couple of items, a vintage easy chair and a carved wood vanity bench, needed wood repair as well as new upholstery. Franco did remarkable work restoring an antique rocker with a broken arm. He took the piece apart, reglued and strengthened the back dowels, made a new piece for the larger dowel attached to the broken arm and then matched the finish of the whole. The chair is now sturdy enough to sit on and looks as new as you'd want an antique to look. He was also able to talk about the "history" of the piece--pointing out the likelihood that the old maple back had been attached to a newer, beautifully fashioned pine seat some time in the late 19th-century. The work was done under time pressure, as I was moving. He delivered it earlier than he had predicted and in plenty of time for my move. read more

We took our 125 year old solid oak buffet in for restoration. It was all out of alingment; could not close some of the drawers. The piece was missing decorative carvings, left foot claw and needed refinishing. We were amazed at the wonderful job they did restoring it to 1900's beauty. Mr. Fallani is an artist. I sent Franco an antique well bucket which had come completely apart. The bucket was repaired and put back together complete with new period straps surrounding it to keep the slats in place. Super pleased with the results of my vintage vanity restoration. Not only did they refinish it, but they added an additional 6 inches to the base so that I could sit under it. Mauro hand crafted the molding for the base and it was just beautiful. I did pay a premium to work with Fallani and sons, but it was a good spend as every detail was spectacular. We had an urgent matter in that the leg to our dining table broke off just in time for the holiday season. We found Fallani's Restorations via google. What a lucky find! Franco came by our house the next day and picked up the two pedestal legs (one broken and the other one with cracks that we didn't know about which would have broken off in the near future). We didn't want them just glued back on but rather restored. He did just that. Not only was the restoration work of high quality, but the stain on the legs is a remarkable match to the top of the table. Honestly, their work exceeded our expectations and the price for their expertise was well worth it. They are artists, not just restoration/repair woodworkers. Franco did a great job on my Cromwell coffee table. The wood has a unique, hand finished, distressed look. There was a very obvious stain that stuck out like a sore thumb. Had two chairs that were falling apart fixed by these guys and they did a great job!!

My wife and I own a spectacular four poster bed and wanted the end posts cut down to a height that would allow us to watch our television which is mounted on the wall. It was a pretty tough task to cut it down and have it all work. When I went to pick up the finished product I was astounded at the workmanship. They had taken out the middle 4 feet of the poster, rejoined the top and bottom including cutting a piece of wood and turning it on a lathe to make it all fit together, refinished it to match it's original finish to perfection and I'm just blown away. These men aren't just your average furniture restoration or refinishing guys. These are old world craftsmen. Thank you Mr. And Mr. Fallani. Just got my beautiful dining room set back from Franco and Mauro and I could not be happier! This cherry set (oval table with a removable leaf, six chairs, a buffet, and a tea cart) was my late parents' first major furniture purchase and my mom's pride and joy. Purchased around 1950, it was in need of refinishing plus I wanted to update the color. Franco was so knowledgeable and accommodating in figuring out how to remove the orange tones so we could achieve a darker, walnut shade. The color is now PERFECT and the set looks much more current. They also made some changes to update the style of the chairs and the buffet. There was some serious cutting involved, but you'd never know it to look at the set now. It's beautiful! Both Franco and his dad, Mauro, were the ultimate in professionalism and super nice guys. I enjoyed meeting them and seeing their workshop. I have allot of antiques, and Mauro is one of the best in Southern California. His work is perfection, a true artisan. Recently, he restored an old mahogany piano that had been in my husbands family. It is gorgeous, just look at the pictures provided...they tell the story. I am now sending a early 1800's Dutch Marquetry desk to him, because they understand inlays and give individual attention to the different woods which allot of restorers do not do. They damaged the wood, turning one scratch into THREE gouges. Original shallow scratch was made into bubbling mess as if the wood was burned. Had to take it to another restorer, who said they put a completely wrong material to fix the scratch. When we confronted the Fallani (father - Mauro and son - Franco), they were rude, beliigerent, and totally unprofessional. First, they pretended they didn't remember us (ah - you must destroy people's antiques every day not to remember!!) Then, they said they didn't do it. Liar, liar, pants on fire. Then they blamed us for rushing them - they told us 3 weeks, then radio silence, we called in only to check. At first Franco said he wasn't happy (that's why he took so long), then he called us after six weeks, said he was then happy with his work. Wow, if this is the kind of "quality" they are happy with, only send them your job only if you hate the piece!! ps - if you are a female, watch out, if you go into the workshop, the old dude will corner you semi creepily and attempt to sell you an "antique" piece all while you can smell his breath. read more
