Ray's Food Place - It's "across town" but across town is a bridge and a few blocks away.

There's no denying certain simple facts…read more Some groceries cost more at Ray's in Fall River Mills than they do elsewhere (whether 20 or 70 miles distant). Some groceries are fresher elsewhere than they are sometimes at Ray's. Some markets have a greater selection (though not much, really) than you find at Ray's. Okay, but here's what else is true: Ray's has almost always had the basic, run-of-the-mill staples, along with the vast majority of the specialty items I've ever needed. (I routinely cook SE Asian, Eastern European, Northern Asian, North African, American Southwest and Mexican, as well as the usual array of French, Italian, German, and utterly American cuisine.) The prices on many items is the same or less than other markets (and extremely economical when you factor in the gas you're not burning to go 20 or 70 miles to the market). And the produce is at times, and the meats almost always, are as fresh as you'll find elsewhere, and it doesn't sit in your vehicle for the extra half- to one-and-a-half hours transit back home, either. So, yes, it's not "locally-owned." It IS locally operated. These are our friends, family, and neighbors working here. They're friendly, helpful, and efficient and getting you what you need, checking you out, and making an special orders I've had the opportunity to request. A dollar or two here or there? Yes, you can save some money on some items in some other markets. For convenience, and the economy of time and gasoline that all of us hold dear today? I'd go to Ray's.

Worst deli food ever. I ordered Chinese food to go, and the rice was as hard as tiny rocks with…read moredried up soy beans in it. The chicken was dripping in too much sauce, and the noodles were thin and tasteless. I also had two onion rings on top which were dried up. I have to say that in the past, this has been quite a bit better. I might try it again, but it will be a long time.
