I have been stopping in the Falcon now for more than 12 years whenever I head North, from London. Often taking 30 - 40 mile detours just to pop in. I am always greeted like a regular too. Mick and his dad have run the Falcon for more years than I can guess at. It is a true "boozer", smallish, totally out of date and simply marvellous, a stunning range of Real Ales, which are always in tip top condition with Ma Pardoes' Black Swan and Oakham JHB as house beers. Along side these there are always at least 6 other guests ales. Lager, if you must, is Ayingerbrau from Sam Smiths. Dont expect to eat other than bagged nibbles, although rumour has it there may sometimes be a cheese roll. The true joy of this pub is so much more than beer though. The staff are amazingly friendly, the beer comes in oversize glasses, the locals are truely an hospitable and sociable lot and Mick, well go and see for yourselves. Mick is just Mick. Personally I recommend the front bar the back can be too quiet. read more
