When I called the office to complain I was blamed for not specifically requesting air conditioning and the lady actually said I could have taken the train!! Given I am a customer- a loyal one at that- and had booked the taxi for practical reasons, this shocked me! Promised myself I won't be using Gemini again after that!

As a student I'm used to being ripped off or belittled but Gemini drivers are always professional, fair and friendly. The phone calls are quick and simple with the operator always chirpy and helpful no matter what time I ring up (sometimes 4am - I couldn't be that happy working at 4am!). Often the journeys I take are with many people so require many stops, but unlike other taxi firms the drivers never seem annoyed and know the area so well that it doesn't present a problem. If I'm travelling alone I still feel safe, which as a young female is rare. What most impressed me, however, is that when we hired a few of their taxis to take us to the station for a night out, the driver insisted very politely that we all put our seatbelts on before he moved off. I found that unbelievably safe and assuring.

It is an approximate 800m walk across Hampton Court Bridge, over the Thames, to the Palace itself. The station is the terminus of a 2.5km branch line which branches off the South West Main line, just south of Surbiton. It was opened in 1849, and was initially operated by horses, with coaches being attached to the train at Surbiton (then called Kingston). Through trains to London soon followed, however, and led to the expansion of Molesey as a suburb. The line was electrified in 1916. An early engraving shows the main station building (now offices) virtually unchanged. The current station lies behind this, and comprises a waiting area covered by a large glass canopy. It includes: a small ticket office; bicycle storage (178 spaces in wheel racks under cover, with CCTV on the former platform 3); toilets; and ticket machines, for when the ticket office is closed. The adjacent car park has 200 spaces (charges apply). The station itself has level access and a portable-style ramp is available to assist wheelchair users onto trains. There is a small pop-up cafe serving snacks and hot drinks during the day. The ticket office is open: Monday to Friday - 06:30 to 18:30; Saturday - 08:00 to 19:00; and Sunday - 09:00 to 17:40 The station enjoys a half-hourly service for most of the day, stopping at all stations to/from London Waterloo. The journey from Waterloo takes 36 minutes, but with a change at Surbiton onto faster services, the time can be reduced to 30 minutes. It is in Zone 6 of the Transport for London fare system, and Oyster is valid on services into London.

The station has a coffee bar (that makes their own sausage butties!) with a good selection of nibbles. There are no ticket barricades here, but there are Oyster readers and ticket vending machines. There's also a staffed ticket booth with hours into the early evening and a decent sized (and cheap!) parking lot. Tip: If you have an Oyster Card, you can use it here. Your daily maximum charge for Zone 6 is going to be cheaper (by maybe £5) than a round trip train ticket from Waterloo Station, even if purchased in advance.

I didn't realize the Virgin website to book Tristar used military time and booked a 1:45 pickup from hotel for a 6:20 p.m. flight from Heathrow Upper Class on July 30. Tristar arrived at 1:45 AM!! Did it not occur to them (they had the flight information) that most people would not want to spend 15 hours in the middle of the night at Heathrow when Duty Free is closed as well as the Upper Class Lounge? Tristar charged me in full to wait 5 minutes until hotel told them to scram, then charged in full again to come back at 1:45 p.m. No accommodation made for a longtime customer used to booking in person and not used to military time. Even a driverless car would have known something was up with a 1:45 a.m. pickup. Will book a comfortable black cab in the future. Too bad about all the takeaways at Virgin.

What do you do when you have to get to the airport before the public transport kicks in? If you're…read morelike me, you probably booked your flight without even considering getting there at that ridiculous hour, then suddenly found yourself in a bit of a pickle. You see, (at the time of writing) the first Heathrow Express train from Paddington to Heathrow is at 5:10am, if you have one of the first international flights out of Heathrow, that doesn't leave much time to play with, plus you have the hassle of getting to Paddington to start with. With all this in mind, I asked around my more jet-set friends and was recommended Tristar cars. This is no minicab service (which start at about £35), but a chauffeur-driven service that is used by many of the top airlines. Including all taxes, I was quoted about £70 for a 4:30am pick-up in Bloomsbury. This is more than a black cab is likely to cost at that time, but this is more than just a black cab. I booked over the telephone and they were very professional and helpful. I received a confirmation email, so ticked it off my list and started thinking about beaches and flip-flops. On the morning of my trip I received a text message a few minutes before the arranged time of my booking informing me that the driver was here. As soon as I emerged from my door he was out the car assisting me with my luggage. The car was a brand new Volvo (you can pay more for better cars, such as Mercedes S-Class), immaculate inside and out and set up for optimum legroom and comfort. The driver was very polite and was just the right level of professional whilst not being too formal. When we got to Heathrow he patiently waited at the drop-off area for a good spot to become available and helped me with my luggage, wished me well and I was on my way, pretty much as happy and relaxed as you can be arriving at Heathrow at that hour. All in all, I'd say that while it's not cheap, the service is faultless so I still think represents good value vs other alternatives. If I were travelling with a group of people, then it would be my first choice every time and is also a no-brainer if your company is picking up the tab. My only slight grumble is that credit card payments have a 3% charge, but if you use the regularly then you won't need to worry about this as you can arrange an account with them. I'll certainly be using them again, not just in London either, they seem to have most major cities covered worldwide by their network.

Saying good morning to you etc. The surroundings are quite lovely, parking is great and safe. The food was plentyful (more than actually) and tasty. Best deals are at the weekend - business rates apply at the weekend. Best bit there is a pool - there is also a gym but I was not going anywhere near that! They also have rooms for smokers. Bad bits - the windows do not open fully - health and safety I was told!!! Bad bit - The internet is very expensive to use - I think if you are paying for a room it should be free. Small warning here if you happen to be struck down by what the Americans (God bless them) call the stomach flu and you have to stay an extra night and it happens into the business rate you have to pay this and not carry on with the weekend rate.

Last year I was greeted with a card with a note from the manager telling me how lucky I am that the hotel rooms had been refurbished (lick of paint and a new shower curtain) but really these things are no-brainers for me......I expect a shower curtain without mould on it, don't you? The maids like to arrange the hand towels on the bed in the shape of swans - a reference to the hotel's proximity to the Swan Sanctuary. This is a nice touch, but only really for the first visit, The towels themselves generally are thin, too small (tiny bath towels, I end up using two), and they strangely seem to smell of ginger nut biscuits and vinegar. The staff are generally friendly and welcoming. The bar staff are polite and friendly especially to repeat visitors. The bar has two TVs that show football matches when they are on, although with low volume so as not to disturb the restaurant patrons. Bar food is not great - I find it is better to eat from the restaurant menu in the bar. I had a steak and ale pie that was a soggy floppy affair with peas and chips -- for £10.95. Not great. The burgers are a little too charred for my taste, although I like the Hot Bite burger - it comes with Jalapenos and hot sauce. Unfortunately the room refurbishment didn't extend to the air conditioning, which blows out heat in the winter and cool air in the summer - with about the same volume as a jumbo jet taking off. This is very disturbing at night and in the winter if you choose to switch it off, the rooms get very cold. There is a health center with a pool but I have not tried it. The hotel has a large car park to the rear which is very convenient. It's very well situated for Twickenham. I pay around £120 per night during the week to stay. I have only visited the buffet breakfast once - all the hot food was stone cold - it's a shame because there was a decent selection - 2 types of sausages, beans, fried eggs, scrabbled eggs, black pudding (yum), bacon, button mushrooms etc. Coffee and tea come from self service vending machines :( Wifi in the hotel is extortionate, and there is no decent mobile broadband signal. Many of the rooms get no mobile signal at all, or at least not enough for a phone conversation, which is very frustrating. Not the fault of the hotel though. In summary, this hotel does the basics, but really, I've stayed in much better places for much less.
