Fairlops Waters is, without doubt, one of the most bizarre places you'll ever go to. What is it exactly?. Well, I've lived near it all my life and visited many times. But I have no idea what it is. Let's look at the facts; They do have a bar. They do have a golf driving range. They did have a kids play area which was awesome before It got closed down for rumoured health and safety violations. There is a lake, where people go sailing and the like. There are ocassionally people in the bar. These are the only facts I have. So It does have a bar - but I wouldn't say 'Oh, Fairlop Waters? It's a bar'. Because it's not. Nobody would ever say "hey, let's pop down Fairlop Waters for a pint". It just wouldn't happen. And despite having a bar - there's never anybody there. Maybe one sixty year old, the same guy who's always there and has always looked sixty. But that's it. How do they make money?. Nobody knows. Quite honestly the most bizarre place you'll ever visit. Mind-boggling. How do I rate it? I could rate it five stars, I could rate it one. But truth is, I have no idea what the criteria is. I have no idea what it is. No idea. Although, disappointing in many respects. If you're looking for a place of beauty to just spend some time with the dogs, or to jog around the lake, or just for a ramble then it's a great place to go. Many people can be seen just sitting by the lake whiling away the hours. Yeah, I remember when it was an awesome and lively place about 20 years ago. The pub was packed and an awesome place to visit, not so much now. Also the activity center was an excellent facility, now closed down. So what's left? Well, when Fairlop was given money to "improve" the area, they built climbing frames and wooden exercise areas all around the lake. Not necessarily a good choice of resources, but good for the kids, also a boulder park for climbing (unsupervised and at your own risk). The lake itself is used for boating, these have to be hired and licensed fishing, this has not changed. There has always been a pub, although this has become more of a bar area and restaurant in more recent times. There is the full size golf course, driving range and a nature reserve area. So the first four months of 2016 have seen refurbishment and new activity areas put in around the lake and in their new "high ropes" climbing area. The refurbishment has been to the Fairlop suite, a function room for weddings and conferences, with a new bar area and toilets. So it depends what you want really. If you're looking for a nice walk with the dog, or just a job around a beautiful lake, or a round of golf, or boating, angling or climbing a wall then this is a pretty good spot for all these things. More a place of relaxation now than the hot spot it used to be. read more

Fairlop Waters consists of a golf course and a sailing lake for which only night fishing is permitted, nonetheless, there is smaller lake for day fishing, it is well hidden so ask for directions. I jog around the sailing lake most morning and it is about 1.8km along the path once round. theres also an old building that used to be an indoor adventure playground, which is now derelict (NO exaggeration). the whole park generally was in disrepair. However, recently Londoner's voted to save it in the Mayor of London's 'save a London park' scheme. The regeneration of the park is being run by a leading environment planning firm and it will become a part wetlands, part golf course and generally million miles from its historical crappiness. read more

Although in its day Failrop waters was filled with hundreds of happy kids running around and loads of families enjoying the good old english summer days out, now days it is a total different story. What used to be a great play area for the kids 'Als Adventure house' is now just an abandoned warehouse. If it IS still open, i do not know how because from the outside it looks like a dirty shack that isnt even safe to sneeze next to let alone run around in. The grounds have been run down, all outside play areas/clean areas have disappeared. The golf course is no more. The only thing still there is the lake. And an indian restaurant (which is ok for a meal out, but nothing too special) In place of all the people, and happy smiling children? Gypsies. Not a very safe place to go. There may be vast amounts of car parking, but as i found out - they lock the gates. Before the actual place shuts. So our car was stuck there. Its a good thing we didnt live too far away and managed to get someone to come pick us up. Not very good! The grass is overgrown on what used to be Als adventure car park, and all in all it has gone seriously down hill. To be honest i think the plans to turn it into a race track would have been alot more eventful for the community, rather than the run down waste that is there now. I went here for a team building exercise. We were supposed to sail in their waters and then with all our separate boats, join them all together in the middle of the deep water and then make one grant boat out of all of them to sail back to shore! I have to say it was a terrifying experience as I cannot swim! But the assistants and helpers were so kind and patient with me so I could recommend companies wanting to reserve it! It does help with team building. The water is clean and you can row the boat well, its really fun. I enjoyed the day overall! read more

Fairlop Waters is most known locally for the sailing and windsurfing on offer. The complex is basically a huge manmade lake, with an area around for dog walking, picnics etc. On site there is also a restaurant and a decent party venue that can be hired out. I used to visit the centre as a child for the famous 'Al's Adventure House', which was a large indoor play area for children, though I am unaware as to whether it has survived and is still part of the complex. If you are local to the area and fancy somewhere new to walk a dog or simply for a change of scenery, I recommend taking a look, the parking spaces are vast and free so you've nothing to lose. read more

Fairlop Waters is an extremely pleasant country park within 2 minutes walk of a central line station(Fairlop) A large sailing lake a fishing lake a new rock climbing area a so so golf course decent bar and good restraunt. The sailing lake is easy to walk round on a wheelchair friendly path the surrounding nature reserve makes for an interesting longer walk(tricky for a wheelchair but not impossible) the newly established gravel island is already attracting new birds to the area. The local children seem to enjoy climbing the extremely realistic mini cliffs. All in all a very relaxing spot. read more
