My then boyfriend , and now fiancé came here to celebrate my birthday weekend. He went by the photos and thought we were allowed to bring our dog. Little did he know , it was just the sweet family dogs in the photo and our sully was an unexpected visitor. Dave worked with us diligently on finding a place for Sully to stay with the local veterinarian ; mind you ... this was late at night. And the sweet Vet came in the middle of the night to his office to allow Sully to stay with him. I have never experienced anything like that , and I doubt I will again. Such wonderful hospitality. We were so grateful for our stay. From the fresh baked cookies that were left out daily to the amazing gourmet breakfast, I could have not asked for a better birthday weekend. GO. GO. GOO. You won't be disappointed.

Can't wait to visit again when we can take advantage of the extensive porches and outdoor areas.

Excellent location, charming older home that is clean, pretty and inviting. The homeowners are so kind and have thought of everything when it comes to their guests. This beats any hotel! I stayed in the Marshall room and the bed is so plush it just wraps you in comfort! I would highly recommend Abigail for your next adventure!

There is no clock, no microwave, and no coffee maker in the room. There is a tiny fridge that sounds like a swarm of ... well I'm not quite sure ... it keeps buzzing. I absolutely, positively, for sure cannot stand the "bamboo" synthetic sheets. The textured floor is obviously difficult to clean. You may wonder why I'm staying here - there are no other vacancies in the area, and I needed to take a break. I didn't expect this.

If you have never stayed at a Microtel, it is the most accurately named hotel chain. Micro-spaced rooms. TV's are perched atop the closet at an angle for viewing in bed. Having said that, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and everything worked well. Breakfast is cereal and pastries. Front desk personnel, while friendly, looked more like a housekeeper that was working the front desk. Summation: nice stay, just understand you are staying in an economy chain.

I'm typically a business traveler and enjoy what could be expected with an average hotel room, but something made me say - why not, just book the barn and live a little! Wow - all I can say is that my heart is still smiling from my stay in the Country Tweet room on the 2nd level of the renovated Barn. The property manager gave me a call to confirm my package had arrived the night before and was waiting in my room for me, and gave me a few pointers for when I arrived to the property. There is no signage for the lodge, just a gravel road, free-range chickens, and a barn! I arrived about an hour and a half earlier than check-in, but Leslie escorted me to my room and gave me the way of the property, etc. with no hesitation. I spent the early afternoon on Main St. Lexington and came back to the lodge and enjoyed late afternoon/early evening sitting by the pond reading a book. I had the entire place to myself which was so peaceful. The following day, I slept in and made some coffee and spent the rest of the morning on the deck finishing my book. Everything is a "pick up after yourself" kind of thing, which seems to be a good system because everything looked neat and kept. Guests can use the mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker which is in a public living/rec space on the 2nd floor of the barn. Later that evening, I met Antonia and she gave me a little more history of the property and invited me to stay another night if my travel plans allowed (unfortunately I couldn't), but offered a complimentary late checkout since my flight was later in the afternoon. I only saw 2 other couples during my entire stay - everyone was quiet and respectful of your privacy. The views from the property are stunning and the buildings and common spaces are so charming. I wish I could have stayed longer, cozy up next to the fire pit...and had another book because I finished mine while I was there! The bed was SUPER comfortable...I can't remember the last time I slept over 12 hours uninterrupted. I will certainly make it a point to come back...even by myself, just to get some quality rest and relaxation. I didn't even have time to explore the rest of the 250-acre property. Thank you for the enjoyable stay and for making my heart and soul smile.

The secluded cabin provides nothing but relaxation, peace, and serenity. The property owner, Antonia, provided superior service from the moment of contact ( immediate responses, personalized welcome envelope with stickers :) , thorough welcome packet with sample itineraries and trail guides, follow-up call to ensure we arrived safely, etc). The cabin was clean and cozy, the property was gorgeous, and the stars are unbeatable. She even provided a romantic bottle of wine for us to enjoy. My boyfriend and I are eager to return and maybe even stay in one of the many other cabins. I highly recommend South River Highlands for an authentic, non-touristy, non-corporate experience. Nothing but a peaceful escape to the blue ridge mountains to enjoy nature's undisturbed beauty.

We had a corner room in the 15th tier looking out the back with mountains in the distance and hotel parking lot below. Bed is firm and comfortable with crisp cotton sheets. Good size shower with hot and strong rain shower head. Good size room with vinyl tile flooring much better than carpeting. Only reason I gave it a 4 star is due to the free breakfast which is really not much better than no breakfast at all. Surprising as they have a small restaurant so you'd think they have the facilities to provide a more acceptable version. There's just coffee (weak), tea (hot water ran out and no one came to replace), old fruit, tubs of cereal (way too sweet) cartons of orange juice, milk and yogurt and some packaged granola bars and bagels, much more basic than most chain motels. Location is great however, right in the middle of town and there is free parking in a lot behind the hotel.
