My mother and I were greeted and treated kindly from the time we entered until the time we left. Everyone that attended to my Mom was patient and considerate as well. It was a short ER visit because they were thorough and got to the root of Mom's issue right away-even taking care of some ear wax that was blocking her hearing and dismissing her soon to be ex PCP for communicating that she pneumonia- for 5 years!!!! This ER found out that her lungs were clear and no pneumonia to be found! If you're not having a life or death situation but you can't get to your PCP or youre in major pain or distress, I definetly recommend a HM Emergency Room like this facility.

I was told that I wasn't having a life threatening emergency and that I just have to ride the course of pregnancy. It wasn't until my family called the er to complain to their superiors that they actually listened to what I wanted and how bad I felt. They also didn't put me in a room with a bed. I was stuck in a room with a chair which wouldn't lay down and I was in there for 7 hours. I just wanted to sleep but I couldn't. I kept asking for blanket and they wouldn't bring any. I did not spend as much time with her but my nurses were fantastic. It made my stay there super comfortable in the position I was in. Talk about going the extra mile...I'm huge on good customer service and she had a big smile on her face, greeted us so warmly, and was quick with getting me registered. I got hit with some bad genetics and have advanced arthritis for my age. I had a C4-C6 cervical fusion 4 years ago and ortho said I would have to be fused from T1-S1 (that's my whole spine basically) and he does not want put me through that so sent me to pain management which I thought would be great but they have dropped the ball on scheduling my spinal injections and I've suffered for months due to bad communication. I've had a pinched nerve in my neck since May and had a trigger point injection from my pain management that lasted all of 3 hours. They said I couldn't get another for 3 months. I call in August and they said they could get me in for October 7th. Which brings me back to AFC. I was in the back in less than 15 minutes from checking in. Dr. Zhang came in and gave the best handshake and let me just say is bedside manner is superb. I explained to him my issue, showed him my x-rays and MRI's, and it took him no time to start a plan. He examined me and saw how hard the knot in my shoulder was as how the inflammation had spread. He immediately said you need a spinal surgeon. Gave me a referral to follow up, placed orders for imaging, and gave me a powerful steroid injection that started working literally immediately. This was not your run of the mill steroid shot. He gave me something that would actually work. It is now the next day and the knot in my shoulder is gone! I slept through the night and haven't been able to do that since May for trying to find a position to put my arm in to take pressure of the nerve. It has been beyond miserable. But I woke up this morning feeling amazing! This is the best I've felt in a really long time and just want to say thank them for such great care! They have even followed up with me today to see how I was feeling. I've worked in healthcare in one capacity or another my entire career. I've been on the IT side of things now for a decade but I remember being in direct patient care and this is the type of experience I wanted my patients to have every visit.

Then she told me she would be sending me an email of something - I couldn't understand her mumbling under the mask, but I never received it. Didn't offer remedies to help me feel better. Mind you, I've done this before in other cities and the black doctors have been AMAZING. But the difference with all the other black doctors I went too, they had conversation with me and showed their passion for their job as well as their passion to make sure I'm well. I'm a Program Manager at a health insurance company and my team job is to educate patients about their benefits so they know the importance of following up with their Family Medicine doctor/ Internal Medicine doctor / Primary Care doctor to prevent them from readmitting to the hospital. But when a doctor is cold and makes you feel like you're getting on their nerves, I can see why to this day patients aren't comfortable speaking up for themselves. Doctors and Providers have to do better with creating environments where questions are welcomed because the patient should be invested in their care because that patient is the only one responsible for ensuring they take all the action items needed! I personally did ask all my follow up questions because I know I am in charge of my health and following whatever I need to do for myself. But I did take a few notes to make sure I was able to share with the office manager the interaction I had with this woman as a new patient. I'm leaving two stars solely because the scheduling team was nice and the front desk staff at the Fairfield location was nice and did recommend I see Dr. N Brown the next visit. But do not book with her if ask questions and would like to be sure of the information you received. Do not book an appointment with her if you expect your doctor to be friendly while you interact with them. Do not book with her if you expect to actually feel like the doctor kind of care about the concerns you bring. The process was quick and easy but I gave 2 stars because I dont understand why the wait had to be so long. I spent my time in the waiting room amongst people that were sick and coughing.
