I love this library! It is so clean and quiet! It is also so close to my school. I can use this as a sanctuary if I want to get away from the noisiness from my school. There is also a shopping center in front. So, if you are ever hungry after studying for hours, there are a few restaurants of many kinds to get some food. I love the private study rooms. There are actually windows, and there is a beautiful landscape! I can't complain! The library is a little tiny, but if you need anything that this library doesn't have (and you can't go to the main Fairfield library), you can always get an item on hold and have it shipped here. It is very convenient. It's pretty cool.

This is one of the better libraries in the area. It's new and nicely situated near neighborhood, shopping, and freeway. It is a large library with plenty of seating, research and quiet study desks, and a large children's section. Although it gets a little loud after school, it's usually quiet at other times. They have a great selection of books, magazines, books on CD, graphic novels, etc. They also have a very efficient holds system. They have lots of community events and activities and story hours for kids. A local gem!

(I'm only addressing our newly refurbished library located within the Vacaville Cultural Center on…read moreUlatis Drive.) Vacaville just spent $2.6M I believe it is and it took over a year to upgrade the library here. It is just around the corner from me and I have dearly loved it for nearly 20 years. Once warm and inviting with a charming tree sculpture in the children's area it now seems rather unaesthetic and the materials came across as cheap-looking to me. I thought to myself that I could've done a better job with $680,000 on a Home Depot credit card! I mean for God's sake ~ $2.6.M!? Gimme a break. They could not even power wash the filthy bench area out front located as the last thing you see before you go through the new front doors? That wonderful wood tree sculpture that was always so wonderful to gaze at every time I ever went in there should at least be put in the large computer area or SOMEPLACE within the new library (they are apparently trying to "rehome it" elsewhere in town) So please~ power wash that entire cement area out front! And do whatever you can to warm it up. I will miss the comfy chairs near the entrance where people used to sit and read for hours ~ I don't recall seeing any place to do that anymore but admittedly I took a quickie tour. as there just wasn't much to see of interest. It just seemed to be so sterile! You can go outside where they have some type of patio area out back. But it's not the same that's for sure. I'm also concerned that when I double-checked my facts on the price I saw that it was actually over $24M! Heart attack time! When I first heard of $2.6M and then took the tour I thought we're looking at a lot of corruption here; there had to be a ton of kickbacks somewhere ~something is off. It simply doesn't look like a $2.6 mil upgrade! And if it's $24M then somebody needs to open up an investigation by midnight tonight! Everybody go see for yourselves. Is it just me? Am I off? In the meantime I'll post these two photos....

Extremely antiquated environment full of staff that are unqualified, discompassionate, AND uneducated about psychological and learning disabilities. WHICH IS THEIR ENTIRE ROLE. The only thing they can seem to enforce is extra test time---which you have to jump through hoops to schedule. This is another barrier for someone with any disabilities that affect executive functioning. The ASC is responsible for advocating for students and finding an equitable way for them to keep up with their classmates, yet is useless when handling unaccommodating professors. The judgment I've faced here by trying to find reasonable accommodations is inane. Why are you being sassy and argumentative with me when I'm asking for help? A high EQ should be mandatory for a role that involves supporting a community that is highly vulnerable to discrimination. The "Accessibility Services Center" is also incredibly disorganized and frequently don't respond to emails. I have to hound them for updates, which is difficult for a student who is already trying to manage their hectic life. They don't seem to be the most cognitively sharp when trying to "help" disabled students, nor well-versed in Section 504 of the ADA... which should be a basic requirement. I know more about my rights than this place knows left from right. The amount of times I've had to repeat a large swath of information from one person [who promised to relay info] to the next that had seemingly no idea what was going on is ridiculous. I've run into multiple people who interrupted me, spoke over me, or made an underhanded remark at the expense of my abilities. I can't tell if Solano is just hiring people off the street to staff the ASC or what. I had a phone conversation with an older woman from the ASC who was supposed to help me formulate a plan to get back on track with school, and she had no advice that couldn't be applied to a neurotypical student. When I mentioned the barriers I face, she gave a long pause and stated flatly that I should "prioritize the class" and "study more". Why didn't I think of that? I could get better advising from a stranger on Omegle. Horrific experience. 1/10

In honor of Earth Day, I decided to visit this library. I've been meaning to do this for almost a…read moreyear. I've seen some libraries with some great library of things. Useful items that you usually you only use once or twice. Borrowing instead of buying makes so much sense. But this library things just blew me away with its extensive collection. Pickleball? Sewing machine? Weights for weightlifting? Cookie cutters? They got it. They have day passes for state parks, museums, theaters... You don't need your own fax machine or your own printer. If you're computing needs are light, just come to the library and use their computers. The fees are so much more reasonable than buying equipment that becomes obsolete in 3 to 5 years. This particular library seems to have a fairly large collection of physical books. Of course, I zoomed straight for the cookbook and the gardening books. They have a great selection of cookbooks. I have collected cookbooks in the past. I got up to 65 before I realized: my shelves were about to collapse. I was only using each cookbook at best 3 to 5 recipes. This is when you realize you have got to clean house and use the library instead. But don't limit yourself to the physical books, remember to check the electronic resources. As far as I know, you have access to many libraries in the California system. I have memberships to many of the towns and cities where I have resided, and they have never canceled my electronic memberships. So I have access to at least three major systems. And it's a good thing I have access to online resources because by the time I picked up all the Cook books I knew I had reached my physical limits and it was time to stop. I was sucked in by the gift shop. This particular section had even more outré books. I picked up a book for fountain pen collectors, and I was about to buy a classic book from Harold McGee when I realized it was available online. Thank goodness. This was a bit too much weightlifting for me. A friend of mine once suggested a wonderful gift. For anyone who's into books, go to the library and pick out a selection of books that you would recommend highly. Your friend gets to read some great books without dealing with the space requirements. And if they don't like it, it's easy to get rid of them. Happy earth day! Here's to enriching your life without cluttering it.

The library feels alive, welcoming and social, with people learning, collaborating and participating in events throughout the day. There's a wide range of resources available and the staff is amazing. Everyone I have interacted with has been kind, patient and eager to help. I am especially thankful to one staff member, whose name I will add when I remember it, who assisted me in the Memory Lab. With her help I was able to digitize 30 year old VHS tapes of my grandparents who have since passed away. The events, tools and services offered here are truly impressive and accessible to the public. From technology assistance to creative programs the library goes above and beyond to serve its community. I am incredibly grateful for the resources they provide and for the caring staff who make this library such a meaningful place.
