In honor of Earth Day, I decided to visit this library. I've been meaning to do this for almost a year. I've seen some libraries with some great library of things. Useful items that you usually you only use once or twice. Borrowing instead of buying makes so much sense. But this library things just blew me away with its extensive collection. Pickleball? Sewing machine? Weights for weightlifting? Cookie cutters? They got it. They have day passes for state parks, museums, theaters... You don't need your own fax machine or your own printer. If you're computing needs are light, just come to the library and use their computers. The fees are so much more reasonable than buying equipment that becomes obsolete in 3 to 5 years. This particular library seems to have a fairly large collection of physical books. Of course, I zoomed straight for the cookbook and the gardening books. They have a great selection of cookbooks. I have collected cookbooks in the past. I got up to 65 before I realized: my shelves were about to collapse. I was only using each cookbook at best 3 to 5 recipes. This is when you realize you have got to clean house and use the library instead. But don't limit yourself to the physical books, remember to check the electronic resources. As far as I know, you have access to many libraries in the California system. I have memberships to many of the towns and cities where I have resided, and they have never canceled my electronic memberships. So I have access to at least three major systems. And it's a good thing I have access to online resources because by the time I picked up all the Cook books I knew I had reached my physical limits and it was time to stop. I was sucked in by the gift shop. This particular section had even more outré books. I picked up a book for fountain pen collectors, and I was about to buy a classic book from Harold McGee when I realized it was available online. Thank goodness. This was a bit too much weightlifting for me. A friend of mine once suggested a wonderful gift. For anyone who's into books, go to the library and pick out a selection of books that you would recommend highly. Your friend gets to read some great books without dealing with the space requirements. And if they don't like it, it's easy to get rid of them. Happy earth day! This library is an incredible community space that offers so much more than books. It is not always completely quiet, but that is part of what makes it special. The library feels alive, welcoming and social, with people learning, collaborating and participating in events throughout the day. There's a wide range of resources available and the staff is amazing. Everyone I have interacted with has been kind, patient and eager to help. I am especially thankful to one staff member, whose name I will add when I remember it, who assisted me in the Memory Lab. With her help I was able to digitize 30 year old VHS tapes of my grandparents who have since passed away. The events, tools and services offered here are truly impressive and accessible to the public. From technology assistance to creative programs the library goes above and beyond to serve its community. I am incredibly grateful for the resources they provide and for the caring staff who make this library such a meaningful place. read more

Great variety of books and great prices!! All kids get 3 free books each time they come.

Can you believe, Napa County library has NO books on the subject of living abroad? I asked them about this, and they said I was getting angry. That's like saying, Oh, we don't have books on lawn care. I guess it's my problem since I always used Evanson (Ill.) Public and Palo Alto Public in the past, both great libraries. This library is super cute and it has plenty of space for studying. I found a table with outlets right away and was able to get to work. It is not loud and it is very neat. There is trashcans and bins everywhere to keep the place organized and clean. I really liked the big windows and private study rooms (2 hours reserved ahead of time). Also I was super impressed bc they have kindles that you can loan out with preloaded books! Other: There is a private parking lot outside with 3 hr parking limits. read more

The Fairfield library is way bigger and has more to offer. But the people working here are extremely hard working and helpful.

very dissapointed with the lady who is in charge of reading to a toddler area , i took my 4 year old who has speech delay , so he can motived a little more and i thought this was the perfect way , the moment we walk in , i was given a durty look by her , my son tried to communicate with the little vocavullary he has and was completly ignored , My son and I were super excited, but since that day we have not wanted to return. read more

I'm a bit indifferent about this library, since there are aspects about this location that neutralize my opinion of it. The staff here are wonderful. They were extremely helpful to me, which I appreciate greatly. However, the quiet studying areas were filled with people watching movies and doing Lord knows what else on their laptops/tablets. This forced me to go an uncomfortable seating area to study. Despite the discomfort, I was able to get some studying done until lady decided to sit next to me and talk extremely loudly to her son. I basically just packed up my bags and left after that. read more

I love this little library! If you want to learn about the history of the Napa Valley, they have a special section with a ton of books about the wine region, how it got started, who started it and so on. My husband and I came to the Library as we were ducking in from a light rain shower. Books are my weakness so thankfully I didn't leave with an arm load! I bought a book on sale there about the Civil War for .50! My husband picked up two books for less than three dollars. The staff there are very, very nice and helpful. I wanted just kick back and read for hours which I ended up doing on another day. It's really small so keep your expectations in check but it definitely does the trick. They also have computers available for those who do not have access at home. We are going back up to the Wine Country, Napa and Santa Rosa in the late Fall. You can bet that we will come back to the Library! By the way, it's located next to the downtown Napa area and the lovely Napa River! read more

I just moved to the area and was looking for a quiet place to study and research. Found this decent looking library in the downtown Napa area that always seems to have parking available every time I go there. I do appreciate the study areas and the desks that have outlets right next to them for easy charging if needed. Bathrooms are clean which is a plus for a crowded downtown library with a more than evident homeless problem. Although I do enjoy coming here I feel that lots of the people who come to this location do not seem to respect to quiet rule. Every day there is someone who is either on the phone talking or talking with someone they are with at a music festival level of speech. Security nor other staff seem to regulate. This is my first week in town and I am crossing my fingers that this issue improves. read more

The Napa County library is celebrating its centennial, but with its modernist style building, it's hard to tell. It's an OK library in terms of selection and internet use. They've had to upgrade over the years, especially with their computer section. They've added a career resource center. They have an extensive selection of DVDs. After the 2014 Napa quake, I donated seven bags of books to their Friends of the Library. They're friendly when it comes to accepting donations, and their Friends of the Library book sale often has hidden treasures. Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island was inspired by his Napa Valley honeymoon, and this library is a treasure trove. read more

Most of the "older" Yelpers remember what it was like to go to the local library, listen to story time, play records and just have a good time. Now that some of the bigger book stores have crowded our cities and taken our time and money, we have left our dear local libraries behind. Many have closed or have limited hours and that's more than sad. With the times being so difficult I ask everyone to support their local city library, it keeps the doors open and saves you money. At the Napa county library the staff is extremely helpful, the place is brightly lit, clean and the computer search system is wonderful. I met my mentee there today and just feel in love with it all over again. Our local high school even holds presentations here and it so much better than sitting in a stuffy classroom listening to their presentations. Love my students but oh it can be a long day in their classes. The only reason I give it 4 out of 5 stars is because the most popular books are always gone and the selection in some areas can be small. The staff will make every effort to find and hold your selection. Take advantage of your library and be glad you have one, soon they truly may be a thing of the past and that would be a tremendous shame. read more

The local system is great as they can get you books from a large number of libraries in the North Bay. Everyone here is technophobic and as such the two checkout machines are always clear, good for me, sad for the community. I helped one older lady out one day and I think I might have turned her onto it instead of waiting in line, which was an awesome feeling I might add. If you want something and it's not here don't hesitate to place it on hold, there are usually several copies squirreled away somewhere for just this sort of thing. All the librarians here are very helpful, I'd find it hard not to be to work in your own utopia. There are always people here, never actually packed unless it's near closing and then people are gathering near the front for checkout. The parking lot is very small and almost always packed and there is a small set of parking spaces in the back but they too tend to be full or just one space left. Hours are plentiful and a bit odd on the weekends but hey at leas they're open. read more

My favorite aspect of this library is their online reservation system! You can look up any book in Solano or Napa counties libraries and have it sent to your local library and then emailed when ready for pickup... The best thing ever! As a parent that system is the only way I can find books- I do my "shopping" online, swing by the pick-up shelves when I come in as the kids and I head into the children section. Aside from a large kid section with tables and soft small sofas (even hard back toddler books at toddler level) they also have great programs for the kids. Read to a dog- huge hit! Read to a grandpa/grandma - my kids adore it! Movie night - thankfully my kids haven't heard about it yet :P. The summer reading program gives kids prizes and makes them feel proud about their progress - and adults get $10 off their late fees (thank you!!) too. They have an enclosed study area and special times for older kids who need help with homework and computer usage for everyone. I love the three free books per child at each book sale - and boy do my kids love it too! My only concern about the liberty is that in the last couple years they have (had to?) bring in a security guard... And while they always seem friendly it's a bit odd to walk into a place of happiness like a library and see a guard... Makes you wonder why it is necessary... read more

Wonderful library with very helpful staff. I frequent the library weekly with my daughter & the staff have come to know her. They help her pick out books that they think she'll like. Book selection is wonderful as well as DVDs & CDs. However, I've noticed a rise of homeless people & trouble makers. I took my daughter to the restroom & walked in two women washing their clothes in the sink & drying them at the hand dryers. Also, outside I've been hassled twice. One person need to use my cell phone & the second wanted food. read more

This small-to-medium sized library is well-lighted and maintained, with clean restrooms and common areas. Frequent renovations have kept this library looking modern. The basic design is one large "great room" with side areas for children's section, etc. Library staff members are helpful. At the time of this review, library hours are essentially 10:00 am to 9:00 pm - Monday thru Thursday, 10:00 am to 6:00 am - Friday and Saturdays. Closed on Sundays. Pretty generous hours by California standards. Free parking in the main lot - 3 hour parking garage next door. Moderately comfortable (i.e., not solid wood) seating abounds, although work stations with power outlets are in really short supply. I was working on my laptop and left after 3 hours when my battery ran out. Passable WiFi speeds: downloads and uploads at 4-5mb/s with decent stability. On my recent visit, noise levels were very reasonable and patrons were pretty considerate. As noted by others, homeless persons pretty much control the outdoor seating area, but not a deal breaker for me. Excepting the lack of power outlets, a very good experience. read more

The worst library compared to American canyon, benicia, and even vallejo. It's always hard to find somewhere to do he because there are only a few comfortable tables big enough to study in that have outlets nearby. The rest of the tables do not have any outlets or they are tiny and uncomfortable. But the biggest problem is that this library has become a hangout spot for homeless people. I have seen them drinking and smoking at the tables outside. A lot of them sit at the good tables with the outlets to charge their things and make it hard to concentrate on studying because of the smell. I've given this library plenty of tries, but I am definitely not coming back again! read more

Three but leaning towards two. Love my local library but the new upgrades are just annoying. No longer with snap so I basically have a small choice in books and no way to get anything out side of napa. Im hoping this changes. Most the time I request books from vallejo or fairfield due to selection here being so small. Other then that its a nice library. Parking is a pain in the arse but thats typical Napa. read more

The library itself is nice and clean, very quiet and organized. Minus 2 star because their WiFi is really slow, it takes 2 minutes to fully open a website which you can barely work with if you're trying to research or something. They need to upgrade their WiFi systems or something. Other than that, the place is nice to study in or read books. read more

This is such a great library system- I use St Helena, Calistoga, the main branch and the college! Most of my audio books are from Hoopla! And I am always telling parents about kid read aloud apps and games for those pesky traffic filled rides home! This is tax money well spent. I actually hang out here often, the free wireless internet is faster than at home and the seats in the teen section are really comfortable. There are quite a few homeless and mentally not-all-together folk who cruise the joint but you don't really notice them unless you are looking or they do something really odd ( which happens somewhat often ). My moment of notice occured while sitting next to a guy in the magazine section who was wearing a full suit and tie ( a little over dressed for the library perhaps ) I happened to watch him get-up to leave and noticed he was also wearing bowling shoes...I guess from Napa bowl. I have just moved from Baltimore where there are armed guards at the Enoch Pratt Library and you have to be buzzed into the bathroom, I guess to discourage full bathing. So I like any place of reading that doesn't feel like prison. The Librarians are super nice and help you find whatever you need. I special order lots of old punk, rock, bluegrass CD's to be delivered different libraries and they call me when they arrive...for free...no music store would do that. I did have to pay once to get a super hard to find book from across the country, it was two bucks and it turned out to be from the 1920's first-run printing...can't beat that. It blows my mind that more people don't take advantage of their services but ignorance keeps the crowds down. 4 stars, 5 if they served alcohol. read more

Awesome library in a great location! The staff is always friendly, free wifi, their fines are ridiculously low, the SNAP system provides you with the latest DVDs and books with no inter library loan fees. I pretty much nixed Netflix because I get all my DVDs from the library now. I do wish its open on Sundays. read more

A great library with a very nice inter-library system that allows you to order books from many other libraries. They also have a book sale that is quite nice. I went there for the sale just today which happened to be bag day (a bag of books for only $5) and got quite a few nice ones. read more

One of the rudest staffs on any library in the area. An okay selection of books, though they're frequently out of order and don't ever get straightened. They also tried to charge me for a book because it "had water damage". I told them it didn't have water damage when I returned it less than 10 minutes earlier and they then realized there was water in their book drop...maybe something they should check before trying to charge people. Another trip I checked out a book that was pretty grummy and old, but I really wanted to read it so I checked it out anyway. When I checked it back in they tried to charge me for it. Again, really? They told me when a book already has damage to call them after you get home (even if they manually check it out to you) to let them know there's already damage so they don't charge you for it. Umm...no. Do your job right the first time. read more

Great library! Great selection and if they don't have it, you can request it from other libraries to pick up here... or fill out a suggestion card and they'll notify you when they've ordered it. The staff inside are very helpful & knowledgeable. The biggest problem are the large pit bulls and cloud of cigarette smoke from the loiterers out front. Besides waiting for almost two hours at the library, I love how peaceful and quiet it is in here. What's kind of awkward for me is that there are sometimes homeless people coming in like they are asking for change. What would been better if they open at least 9am or earlier.
