We spent 1 hour and 45 minutes waiting while the general manager played hotel hide-and-seek--riding the elevator, checking rooms like a lost guest himself. Truth in lending the management did throw us a small discount but not one worth an almost two hour wait in a hotel lobby at 84 degrees. In the end, we took a downgrade just to finally get a room. We picked this place because of location to our event. It is an older hotel but it did everything we needed! The customer service was friendly and spot on when our remote control didn't work! Devon was right there to fix it! The room was large and the bed comfortable. We even asked for extra pillows and a blanket. We got the TV working, someone unplugged it. Devon fixed remote. A/c was weird, seemed to time out in the middle of the night. Covered the microwave clock with notepad. wishes they'd offer a sound machine for a clock Plugs everywhere. Wish there was a nightlight in the bathroom. Towels good, shower hot with S/C/S. We even jumped in the COLD indoor pool. Wishes it was warmer. All and all, good night sleep. Family road trip and stopped here for the night. Clean sheets and clean room. It was nice and quiet and we slept fairly well. However, their AC was not working properly in the hotel or in our room. We set our AC down to 60 in our room but it was still warm. The lobby was set in the 50's but it read as being 82. We used the washers and dryers before we left and the dryer left our clothes wet, so we stopped by a coin laundry instead to finish drying our clothes. Rooms are a bit outdated. Confusing rooms have wall thermostat, and windows unit. Our room thermostat didn't work, windows unit did. Family also staying there, the thermostat worked and windows unit worked. No keys available during stay (2 nights) staff let guest into rooms as needed. Power flickered multiple times during stay, hallways were warm, as were other areas of hotel. Staff was very courteous and helpful. read more

I have not had such a bad hotel experience as I had at Fairfield since I stayed at a Best Western. The check in process took 30 minutes, and then we were assigned a room that did not exist. That meant another 25 minutes at the front desk to get it cleared up. The room was a handicapped accessible room. Another trip to the front desk to ask if another room was available so as not to stop a disabled person from having a room. Nope. The toilet took 2 flushes to work. There was no hot water at all, even after several more trips to the front desk. The towels were gummy with fabric softener and left our hands dirty after washing them. We finally went to Walmart for a hand towel and wash cloth that actually worked properly. The carpets were filthy, evidenced by the black on our bare feet after walking on them. After the first night we had bites on our feet and ankles from some type of insect. And to top it off, there was mold on the bath tub and on the vents of the heating/cooling unit. You know. When you are going to have 2 bus loads of kids staying at your hotel good for you. I am a capitalist and glad you can make the money. The problem is people in the same hotel that are traveling on work and need to get up and do something find it aggravating to listen to collage age kids running up and down halls until 12-1230. Walking very loudly (stomping) above you until late. Why not tell me? You know I am here on work (you and on check in). You know I am platinum (only saying that because they know I stay at least 75 nights a year so not on party time) Why not separate us on work and they 2 buss full of people. Or Tell me and offer me to change hotels to another Marriott property? Just my 2 cents. Other than that nice place. Unremarkable. read more

Do not stay!!! 1. Front of AC unit was on the floor when we checked in. 2. Light bulb was blown. 3. TV in bedroom area had to be reset 3 times during our 2 day stay. 4. TV in sitting area is so old it doesn't even have a guide. 5. Lamp shade is broken. 6. Thermostat is loose on the wall. Asked to be moved to another room. Claimed they did not have an available room of our room type. I am in hospitality and if we have a guest who is unhappy with the room and issues can't be fixed, we get them moved even if it means a complimentary upgrade. Very disappointed. The cleaning staff run the hotel. Broken Hot Tub, Broken Elevator even a Broken toaster. Was told these have been broken for some time. It's almost like finding a unicorn these days I have been all over Birmingham all football season and I haven't been able to find a descent hotel no matter if I payed $129-$250 !!!! It's a shame but hey glad I found this gem in Pelham. The wallpaper was pulled apart in the bathroom and a small spot on the wall near the chair. Breakfast was pretty good also.. I slept well the AC cover fell off in the middle of the night not sure why or how but other than that all good. Husband left his eyeglasses w we e had to go back to get them . Very nice experience. Pelham is a regular layover on a trip home from the beach. We had been staying at HI Express but last couple of stays, odors, cleanliness and breakfast had gone down. Checked Yelp and followed the limited reviews. Made a reservation, price great for 4 of us. Check in fast efficient, lobby area fresh, modern and clean. Hallways the same, either fairly new or recent update. Rooms large, clean and decor modern. Beds great. Bathroom large and nice. Rooms are quite even on a crowed night. Went to bed early after long day on road and was very peaceful. Breakfast was fresh, hot and tasty, restocked often and plenty of seating. Area was policed and cleaned even with many families with lots of small kids. The bill slipped under our door was for $20 less than the online price I signed up for creating a pleasant surprise. Quick check in, clean rooms, s l o w elevator. Friendly staff. Convenient to Oak Mountain Amphitheater and to Krystal and a Mexican restaurant (both within a block). Friend booked a queen suite with sleeper sofa. Slept three easily. Bathroom was large. Coffeepot was rocking old school Mr. Coffee-style 4 cup style which I LOVE! Microwave and mini fridge included, but no wet-bar sink. 2 flat screens, speakerphone phone(s), and a desk area. I would not recommend this suite for 3 adults for extended stay, it would get kinda cramped with the bottle neck being the "kitchenette" adjacent to the bathroom right by the door. I slept on the sofa and had the thermostat set to 68 ish. Froze my friends out because the bedroom has the AC unit, not the living room and the vents are not equally dispersed - just the one unit in the bedroom. I wish they had a completed wall dividing the living area from the bedroom. That would have made it much quieter for me on the sofa. Can't review the breakfast since I didn't try it. Did pick up a couple of bananas and an OJ, which were fine. Front desk denied our late check out request even though my friend is like Marriot Platinum (or whatever the stellar level of Marriott is) due to it being a concert weekend. Also, the prices really increase when there is an event at Oak Mtn., but, I guess that is the business model. Overall, I would recommend for a clean, friendly place to crash after a late night show at Oak Mountain. read more

As a Titanum Elite member, I am well versed in what a Marriott property should be. Unfortunately, this property falls short in pretty much every aspect of what I have grown to love about the Marriott family of hotels. The property itself is quite old and tired. The furniture in the room was work, tears in the couch, the drawers in the dresser would not stay shut on their own, and the bathroom was literally falling apart at the seams. The indoor pool and hot tub area was even worse. Sheetrock was separating and falling down and pretty much everything that could rust, has rusted. The hot tub, which I specifically inquired about prior to arrival, was almost completely drained, with just some stagnant water at the bottom (though no signage or roping to indicate its closure). I was also quite disappointed to notice that not a single member of the housekeeping staff wore any type of face coverings, though signage entering the property required such. All in all a very disappointing stay at a severely unloved property. Perhaps its time that Marriott Corporate stepped in and did an inspection at this property as it most definitely does not hold up to Marriott standards. read more

The location of this hotel is on a major road with a lot of chain restaurants and shops and fast food joints around - you're not gonna starve here. It is convenient to the highway. Free breakfast, free parking, free wifi. All good. If you stay here, you MUST walk right in front of the hotel and go to the Highland Gourmet Scone Shop (or go to the convenient drive-thru). Promptly found me a room at a very reasonable price. The facility was immaculate. Everything was clean. The room was spotless. It also had a fridge, microwave and LCD TV. The bed was comfortable and king sized! Complimentary breakfast was great: waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, assorted pastries, juice, fruit cups, fresh fruit, cereal, toast, coffee. The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. The Inn is clean and very nice. Breakfast is very good with many options so that helps with picky eaters. The room was very clean and nice. The only negative I have is that the bed was very lumpy and the sheets rough. I requested to have my sheets changed the next day, which was done, but the new sheets were just as rough. An upgrade to a better mattress and better sheets would be nice. I still would stay here again because overall it was a great value for our stay. read more

Awesome experience with this Fairfield Inn. The rooms were extra roomy: not sure if it was because we were in the handicap accessible rooms, but we have been in some of those that were much smaller. The staff was all extremely nice, especially the breakfast staff (Ruth) went out of her way to help us locate nutritional information for one of our children who is on a restrictive diet. We have stayed at many Fairfield Inns and it has been hit or miss as to the quality of the facility and staff. This one was definitely a home run. read more

We had to stop after a long drive without reservations. We were exhausted but happily found check in took five minutes, at 2:30 am. Our room, even though right next to the elevator was nice and quiet. The bed was very comfortable and the amenities were everything you could want. The decor in our room was lovely with contemporary cherry blossom sheer curtains, and framed photographic art depicting a waterfall over dry canyons. The room had a microwave, mini fridge, tv, sofa, table, desk, lamps, mini hair dryer and Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner, and soaps. We had a choice of several suite hotels and chose this one because of good reviews and supposedly superior amenities. So far, we are disappointed. The desk clerk that checked us in was rude and abrupt. None of that southern hospitality and friendliness we were hoping for after an 8 hour drive from Ohio. After the front desk person took our credit card he informed us that the hot tub was broken and the indoor pool was NOT heated. No welcome, we're glad you're here and no I'm sorry you won't get to relax your sore, tired muscles on the hot tub we advertised. The king suite room itself was spacious, but the living area was sadly empty of welcoming furniture. There was one green two seater sofa and two upright chairs and that was it. The rest of the room was empty and wasted space, just a big beige empty wall. They give you "free internet" but the first thing you read is that you have to pay $4.95 a day for "high speed" internet, which is what you would expect on an upscale business/leisure hotel anyway. So far were using the free internet. The kitchenette is just a small sink, a small microwave and a really tiny, sort of warm refrigerator. Fitness center has two inoperable treadmills that quit/ short out in the middle of a work out. The display on the elliptical machine also does not work. So don't bother trying to get a good workout on this hotel. The maintenance man crush and said "they've been like that for a while" and had no idea how to fix them. So all in all I paid a lot for a nice, upscale room that I just didn't get. Next time I'm in this area I WON'T stay here again. I don't feel it came close to living up to my expectations. read more

I personally did not stay here but I was affected by what happened. My husband went to Alabama for work his boss set him up at this hotel paid for the rooms. When my husband got there they asked for a credit card and my husband handed one over. He was told they would hold it but they actually ran it through my bank. When the evening desk clerk was confronted about it he acted very very ignorant and acted like there was nothing he could do to fix the issue. I told my husband to tell him to call a manager my husband told me the guy said he can't call his manager so why do you guys even have managers to fix this problem? So the night clerk threatened to call the cops on my husband because he wanted answers about why his room was being charged twice by the company and on our credit card but this ignorant desk clerk couldn't give him an answer. Then my husband called the corporation and was on hold for over an hour an hour that is ridiculous Marriott. Now all these emails and faxes are going all over the state of Alabama or world to get this taken care of and you think that is more secure than just charging the company's credit card in the first place? You guys are beyond ridculous and you can take a flying fuck and I give you a negative 100 as a review. read more
