The bed in the Royal Red Room was very comfortable, multiple types of pillows are provided so you can pick the one that best suits your needs, and the bathroom is very well appointed. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Virginia is a lovely host - present if you want her to be, and absent if you don't, which is something some other B&B's haven't figured out. :) The Stone Mansion is in a convenient location and much more comfortable than the hotels in the area. We can't wait to have a reason to stay there again!

When I used my phone to see our lodging options, I resigned myself to sleeping somewhere resembling low income housing. Then I saw the B&B tab on TripAdvisor and the McNeill Stone Mansion B&B was presented with beautiful rooms just across the street. Gary and Virginia were very accommodating to our up in the air schedule, the rooms and mansion are beautiful, and the breakfast is fantastic. Take the time to get to know the history of the home and look through the numerous before and during photos of its restoration. I don't know when we will be back, but we will be back. I apologize for the photos. My next review should be of the image handling of an iPhone. I'm tired of fighting the image rotation.

This is one of those old-timey places where the front desk area is the size of your side den and you're not allowed to walk past it - you have to go open your room door and that will be where you stay. Turns out I actually parked at my room door without knowing it. +1 star for luck! Okay, kidding. I like downtown Oskaloosa but there's nowhere to stay there. This is a bit away from everything, which can be good or bad - takes a bit to get back to the highway. IIRC the Internet was not that great, but I was just there to sleep. Ran the noise machine but I imagine I was far enough from anything that would make noise not to worry - otherwise one never knows with the big windows that the drapes did a poor job covering. So OK, the rooms are definitely on a budget. Survivable for a night but I wouldn't want to stay for their weekly rates. But they're nice folks and it's a local hotel so I don't mind them having my business for just the one night.

What a fortunate turn of events for the four of us. Turns out that Pella is a very nice place to spend some time and our mini vacation was made doubly enjoyable by the extraordinary hospitality offered at The Cheesemaker's Inn. Rob and Kim have mastered the art of accommodation. Every need is satisfied. The rooms are exceptionally clean, tidy and well decorated. They provided a small but pleasant sitting room off the upstairs bedrooms where we could brew coffee or tea, snack on cookies, and help ourselves to refrigerated soft drinks while chatting or reading the paper. Breakfasts are something to look forward to at this inn. We have stayed at any number of B&B's and have generally been served a good meal from the kitchen. But Kim's skill in the kitchen is above par. Homemade bread? Yes. Garden herbs? Expect it. Fresh ingredients prepared and presented in a simple but elegant way? You bet. And best of all, their guest service is unpretentious and welcoming. It's as though you were neighbors from down the road or a relative from across town. Just a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
