We were traveling through and stayed for a night at the Fairfield Layton with our 2 little pups. The location is very convenient. Lots of restaurants in the area including the Cracker Barrel which is just across the parking lot. It is an older hotel and it is showing its age. The hallways were dark, the breakfast area small. The rooms are dated. We requested a high floor room which I was assured was confirmed but we were given a first floor room. It was only for a night so it really didn't bother us. However, the smell of chlorine from the pool was really strong, plus the hallway was really dark. Surprisingly, the noise from the highway didn't bother us. Breakfast was your usual hotel offering. The was grass around the hotel so it was really good if you're traveling with your pets. Would we stay here again? Maybe, but there are better properties around. read more

The staff employee that we spoke with was very friendly, helpful, and professional. Upon arrival of this hotel there was plenty of parking for their guests. I have to admit, this hotel was at a very convenient location for us. We were visiting Utah and wanted to stay at a place that was accessible , safe and nearby food places. Can't beat that ! We were right next to Cracker Barrel and In N Out! Lol This hotel may have been a bit outdated, but the short stay was very comfortable and even a plus when we woke up and there was breakfast available downstairs!! My family did a little stay-cation for the weekend and needed a place to stay near Cherry Hill and Lagoon. I think a few other folks do the same thing based on the people we saw at the hotel. The lobby area is nice and updated. However, when we opened the door to our room we were hit with a smell-possibly mildew. Other than the smell, the room appeared clean. The bed was very comfortable. Walls are thin, so you will hear conversations of people in the hall or adjacent rooms. The breakfast area is very small and was crowded both mornings we went. If you want to eat, go early. Kudos to the housekeeping staff, however. I left them a note that it was my wife's birthday and they wrote her a nice note to find when we returned. We appreciated the personal touch. Summary- decent place for a low rate. Don't expect the Courtyard or Residence Inn, but for Marriott's economy brand, it's not too bad. read more

We stayed at Fairfield Marriott in Lathan, UT as we headed to Yellowstone for a large family reunion, we booked 4 rooms thru a third party Expedia how ever the hotel desk was rude and not professional un experienced to the point that she told us to find a different hotel. We love Marriott to the point that we become Marriott vacation owners but this has been the worst stay. Breakfast was good, rooms good, the foot was itself was like entering a scene of horror movie. We stayed on Saturday June 3, 2023 room 230 TV did not work, front desk do not communicate, No manager on weekends associate are not allowed to make discussion, dog poop on floor steps, we strongly believe that just because we booked thru a third party we got treated like a third person the name Marriott should be removed from this hotel for its an embarrassment for the Marriott name. read more

OK...first of all I got a pretty good deal on the room here... usually I am staying in much cheaper hotels because frankly I just want a place to sleep for the night before I hit the road in the morning, but in this case one of the most inexpensive deals in town happened to be the Fairfield Inn, so I went with it. The room was fine, clean and usable. Wi-Fi was solid, so no complaints there. I was able to look down across the parking lot to my motorcycle, so I felt some amount of security there as well. The comments I have seen about the elevator may be true. There is one elevator for the place, with stairwells at each extreme end of the building. A central staircase would have been nice while waiting for the elevator. I don't really consider this to be a detractor, because every hotel being built these days seems to eschew stairwells for anything except emergency regulations. The place also seemed to have a lot of families staying there. Lots of kids running around, particularly between their rooms and the pool. I stayed away from the pool. All in all, not a bad stay. You could certainly do worse! read more

There is no way this is a Marriott hotel. This is a revamped Motel 6 maybe. It does not fit Marriott standards by any stretch. The front desk lady didn't even make eye contact at check in. The room was just dirty. Just not clean at all. Carpets are disgusting. The shower - creaks every time you move. I think it's about to fall through. And it doesn't drain. I never felt clean there. I could not wait to get home and wash this hotel off me. read more

I was stuck in a room that was practically wrapped around the elevator shaft. Needless to say I was woken up often by the loud clanking of the elevator. This was for $200 a night. The room and bathroom was on the small side but I'm guessing it was because the room wrapped around the elevator shaft. The room was nicely appointed and modern. Everything looked clean and it smelled good despite being wrapped around the elevator shaft. It would have been nice if I had more than one packet of regular coffee in the room. I bet if the room wasn't wrapped around the elevator shaft I would have gotten more than one packet of regular coffee. Unfortunately, since my room was wrapped around the elevator shaft, I can only give this place three stars at best. I have to rate it the way I experienced it. read more

The extra star I'm giving is for the friendly front desk employee that made our check in swift and efficient. This review is mainly about the rooms.. whoever was upstairs from us was stomping and running around at 6am & we could hear our neighbors next door to us very clearly. On another occasion we thought that someone was knocking on our door but it was actually across the hall from us. That should tell you how the noise travels in this hotel. If the Marroit brand has standards, this location falls short. Probably a Super 8 or something that got bought and remodeled. Loud in every way, from the freeway to the housekeepers. A single rumbling elevator that's overwhelmed by breakfast. Air conditioning functional but with odd noises. Superficially clean, however not so much if you look closely. Keep the bathroom lights on. Read as 2.75 stars. There are 3 levels of Marriott's in Layton. Level 1: Townplace Suites (see my review) Level 2: Farifield Inn (reviewing now) Level 3: Courtyard by Marriott (haven't stayed in but others have that I know) To get anything better Marriott wise, you either have to go to Ogden or SLC but neither are terribly convenient for our Utah visits. This place is in desperate need of an update. They have a small breakfast bar area that is well maintained, a huge indoor pool and hot tub (a big draw for many I am sure), and okay beds. My husband and I had stayed at a FFI in Anaheim and this place is super run down in comparison. I made my reservation over the phone and the manager was great. Sadly, he was never there when we were down. In fact, sometimes it took several minutes for anyone to come to the counter to acknowledge us. Here is what I found pretty subpar: -Reception area (lacking customer service) -I found a pair of shorts when sitting on the little couch in our room tucked under half way (must have been from when someone had used the pull out couch). This grossed me out because that meant to me that the cleaning staff didn't do a thorough cleaning between guests. I am no germ-a-phobe but this was yucky. I took a hanger and hooked the shorts and brought them down to the lobby reception area. The person working the counter did nothing to make me feel better about our room, our stay, nada. This was our first night. -The bathroom is separated with a sink/open closet area then a door to the toilet and shower. The sink does not have adequate space for toiletries and the towels are worn and rough. This was no step up from the Townplace. In fact, the Townplace had a better sink area for the bathroom. The Courtyard has an updated lobby area AND the FFI and Courtyard share yes SHARE the Courtyard's fitness center. This means that you have to leave the FFI to walk through the parking lot and if you are lucky enough to find the "secret path" you don't have to walk all the way around the block especially in frigid weather (I like using the word frigid whenever possible btw). It is at least an option but is kind of weird to have to go all the way to a different hotel (even as part of the same chain). I would only stay here again IF the next place I found wasn't available (still to be reviewed) and only AFTER I check out the Courtyard. read more

I stayed here in late 2016 and it was pretty nice so when my grandma fell ill I booked it again. It was like there was no upkeep the entire time. There was one lady who worked the front desk who was super nice which is the only reason I'm giving it two stars. There were not many people staying there but everyone was booked near each other and we could hear everyone's TVs, doors opening and closing, and toilets flushing through the night. There didn't seem to be a dress code and differentiating employees from people rolling out of bed wasn't easy. The sheets were disgusting and the fitted sheets were so old there was no elastic left so the sheets kept coming off. Breakfast was not very good but it was something I guess. I definitely would not recommend staying here, my husband has threatened to ban me from booking hotels in the future. We could not wait for check out. read more

As Marriott Gold I can tell you this location ranks far below its Fairfield peers elsewhere around the country. Very disappointed in our short 1-night stay here. Marriott has high standards, so when things aren't right it really sticks out. We had previous guest left behind clothing, a musty, damp, hanging odor, a buzzsaw bathroom fan, continuously dropping wifi, and questionable water quality from the faucet. It became just funny it was so sad. Of course we could have moved hotels, but we stuck it out. That would have just added to the hassle. We chose the location to use points at a bargain rate. I would recommend the Town Place Suites right next door for Marriott regulars. We also have stayed there many times and never had anything questionable - also a points bargain. Avoid this Fairfield until some new management turns things around and they gut and remodel. read more

I had a horrible experience at the marriot fairfield Inn in Layon Utah. I ordered 2 rooms in May when I got my keys 1 of the rooms wasn't even done. The bed wasn't made and there were dirty towels. The night shift guy said he couldn't move them around and he would need a response for the manager to do anything but he should have at least cleaned our room and remade the beds we ended up asking for clean towels around 7 pm and new bed linen and doing it ourselves. The next day we told the manager on duty and we were suppose to get points but they never posted to our account. I ended calling corporate and got 5000 points which I guess are not really that much. read more

This was my first, and most-likely, last visit to a Fairfield Inn. I'm a big fan of the other properties in the Marriott family. Just not this one, apparently. I knew it was on the bottom of the Marriott totem pole. I just didn't realize how low it was. We stayed one night, at this particular FFI, and that was plenty. I was pleased with the low rate I got. But I didn't realize, until it was too late, that the rate attracted other deal-seekers as well. In the form of a high school wrestling team. We took our kids to the pool around 6:30PM. For the first 30 minutes we had the pool to ourselves. But then, the teenage boys joined us and things got very rowdy, very quickly. I decided it was time to take my 3 young children back to the room when the wrestlers started mooning each other. We got out of the pool, and the wrestlers took it as a cue that it was OK to start "pants-ing" one another. Swim trunks were flying through the air, by the time I got my kids out of there! I mentioned it to the front desk. I'm not sure if anything was done? I didn't want to head back to the pool to find out. After I bathed my children, I left the room to get some beverages from the vending machine. I opened the door to our room, and right there in the hallway was a pair of boxer shorts. Gross! Out of the corner of my eye, I saw two teenage boys streaking down the hallway. I complained to the front desk for the second time. Where was the adult supervision for these boys, while all of this was going on? Who knows?! Our room, itself was pretty worn down. Threadbare carpet. Mold in the corner of the shower. And low-thread-count sheets & towels. The next morning, we went down to breakfast early, so that we could beat the high-schoolers to the food. I will say, that the breakfast was more than I expected. So, at least I can end my review on a positive note. read more

There's a bunch of hotels in this immediate area. This isn't the best, but for the price, it's really pretty good. You can walk to Target (which has a grocery), it's next door to a Cracker Barrel (good or bad, depending on your attempts at weight loss) and the rooms have a fridge/microwave. It looks like they're really trying to compete, because in this standard hotel room I have a bed, a little sitting area with couch, chair & coffee table, and they shoehorned in a tiny round table with two chairs along with the desk. What they can't fix is the proximity to the freeway. It is LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. If road noise bothers you, do NOT stay here. Other beef: only one washing machine. It took me two hours to do my laundry, not happy about that. Two dryers. There's a small, heavily chlorinated indoor pool. It's good, especially if you're on a budget. read more

Layton has a cluster of Marriott hotels right off the freeway...Pick one and see which is your favorite! We are Marriott reward members and always stay here on points. We usually pick the Town Place Suites, since it requires the least amount of points, but this weekend, we chose the Fairfield since it had the same point value AND offered a full continental breakie and a pool area. The hotel has been updated in decor and style to the "Fairfield" look and I loved it! The person manning the front desk was no where to be found, but I waited patiently until he arrived. I was checked in to my reservation, which I made on-line and was told, they were putting me far from the noisy freeway, which I appreciated! I used the hot tub and pool, enjoyed the free hot chocolate from the lobby and purchased some snacks from the little store there. I loved my cozy room and read all night. The room next to me had a joining door and it was so loud! It was a single guy, who ordered Chinese delivery food and talked on the phone until after midnight. I could hear EVERYTHING and was super uncomfortable about listening to his business, but luckily nothing sketchy was going on! This hotel is close to many conveniences...Restaurants, shopping malls, movies and gas stations. We have stayed at all 3 Marriott hotels here and find them to be the perfect location and price for us. Tips and Hints.....Stay far away from the freeway. It does tend to be noisy. Listen for the awesome fighter jets practicing above you. Hill Air Force Base is here. Check out the free air show if you can! This is a great hotel. It was the cheapest in the area for what we were looking for. We were staying in Layton two nights for a weekend away at Lagoon. The location was perfect for getting to and from the park. The rooms are great. My husband could not stop RAVING about how much he loved the mattress and I agree it was nice. One down side was our TV absolutely did not work, even when the attendant tried to come help us. Boo. The windows open and the bathroom was a good size! Conveniently located as far as shopping and restaurants go, and just off the highway. Rooms are remodeled and nice. All was clean. Wifi is TERRIBLE - keeps pooping out and is not remotely secure in any way. Hard to even send an email before it drops out. Walls between rooms a little too thin and you can hear some of the road traffic, but not too terribly. Upon arrival no one was at the desk, because the front desk clerk was doing double duty doing laundry, which they shouldn't be doing while working the front desk, especially not during a pandemic. They should make sure they're properly staffed for that. read more

They were a bit understaffed causing us to wait longer for check in, our crib request and extra towels. The food was edible in the morning, but the tables were a bit dirty and not all the extras were there (forks, knives etc) I'd stay again if needed be. The Fairfield Inn in Layton, Salt Lake City is one of the worst place that I have experienced. The guy at front desk, Juan, has no sense of customer service. I had a confirmed reservation and had also checked-in a day before arrival using the Marriott app but when I got to the hotel Juan tells me that their reservation system is down and he cannot give me a room. I was told to check back later and if the system is up he can check me in, but he cannot tell me when the system will be up. When I objected and pointed to him that I was already checked in on the mobile app his response was that he will cancel my reservation and I can take my business elsewhere. Then he asked for my driver's license and credit card so he can make a copy of those and then he can maybe give me a room. When I spoke with the manager of the property, Leslie, she also took the same stand. In addition to the horrible customer service the hotel is not that great either. It is old and dark. Overall this place definitely does not live up to the Marriott brand and standards. read more

I only stay at Marriott hotels and this hotel is near the bottom of the list. My biggest complaint is that it's just dirty. The carpet in my room is stained and sticky and there is a sticky substance all over the night stand. The room has a musky odor and I'll avoid this hotel in the future read more

I stayed here for 3 nights for work and the location is great, and the free "continental breakfast" is convenient, but that's about it. The rooms were old and smelled of smoke (although they are now smoke-free...you can tell they weren't always), the bed and pillows were uncomfortable, and the wireless adapter that the hotel lent out didn't work. There aren't any amenities and service was average. If it was the only vacant available hotel to stay in, I suppose I wouldn't have a choice, but given any other option, I prefer not to to stay here again. read more

Front desk staff was friendly and welcoming. I had a single room, king bed on the 2nd floor which smelled like wet smelly feet. I actually went out to a drug store to buy fabreeze since the damp smell was so bad. We stayed at this hotel last night and it was awful. We usually love Marriott's but we will never stay at this one again..or even a Fairfield again. We were so close to the freeway that our window rattled, my kids couldn't sleep from all the noise of that. We got a white noise machine going, then the walls are so thin we had upstairs jumping noises until midnight. Huge spider our floor and it just felt dirty. The lobby stunk really bad. I asked for some sort of refund because my entire family (3 young kids) slept horribly and they gave me the equivalent of $5 in Marriott rewards points. Don't stay here! read more

Small but lovely queen room and extensive hot breakfast. However, the only ice machine is on the 1st floor, the sink counter barely has room for toiletries, no hairdryer, although there is an iron. Wifi was strong, but many cable tv channels shut off at 930 pm. Tile floor from door to bed area makes for very cold feet. And my tub wouldn't drain. Bring earplugs, lots of noise from the interstate -- on top of my room sharing a wall with the elevator. read more

Stayed this past week which was extremely noisy as there were many teenagers with irresponsible chaperons that didn't control them as they were loud walking through the hallways. I was unfortunate to be next door to a family that their children were making a lot of noises and running up and down the hallways. I call the manager on duty to no avail. I called twice and was ignored basically telling me there's nothing they could do. Poor management, stay away especially those of us who stay in this location two weeks or more at a time. Definitely advising others to look elsewhere for lodging, perhaps on base. read more

My stay at the Fairfield Inn in Layton was AMAZING!!! The Staff was great! I have not encounter a more devoted staff who worked diligent everyday to make my stay the best it could ever be. From the General Manager to the Housekeeping, Top notch service all the way around. Whenever I'm in the Layton-Salt Lake City area, I will definitely look at staying here again! Location is great with quality chain restaurants in walking distance (it even shares a parking lot with a Cracker Barrel). Fast free WiFi that was strong even at the far end of the building. It's showing age and wear, but the rooms were clean and I'm pretty sure nothing bit me during my stay. read more

Okay, Crystal (Manager) & Jessica ROCK!!!!!! I had a hotel reservation and was able to check in however due to the room still being prepared (30 min for it to be ready) i didn't physically get settled into my room until hours later (which was fine I had somewhere I needed to be). The following day I learned that my reservation was cancelled for whatever reason and that their system was showing the room was vacant.........needless to say I wanted to do the right thing and ensure payment was received for my night stay, Jessica jump on it and was able to assist however there was an issue that arised where my card was charged more than once and from the initial check in my card had charges on it so my monies was all tied up and it was becoming a concern. So Jessica did everything she could within her scope, so she didn't hesitate to get Crystal on it to ensure customer satisfaction, Crystal was able to get everything squared away and leaving me completely SATISFIED. The ladies were professional, courtesy, kind, and awesome. I felt like I truly mattered to them and they extended an invitation to return with family and friends which I will do. This one is right next to the interstate and the rooms don't have good soundproofing. If you are on any special rate, then that's what they give you - on the highway side - and you won't be able to sleep. I had a reservation, and arrived at 5:30 PM and they said they didn't have any other room other than for me. Also, this was a room for people with special access needs - the sink faucet sticks in your face when you brush, and the toilet is too high. They have a free internet, but the speed was of the ancient 56K modem. You click and then wait (or do something else for a few minutes) for the pages to refresh. The staff might look friendly on the face, but in the end of no help. Won't stay here again. read more
