Nice hotel for a really good price. The rooms were clean and nice sized. The real star of this location are its employees!! The front desk agents answered all our questions, have suggestions, and even upgraded me to a room with a balcony and mountain view! The cooks and bartenders were also kind accommodating. My only gripes are that some of the items are too expensive (like the mediocre coffee), and you can only order an alcoholic drink if you also order food at the bar. read more

I was here for a 3-night stay, and I would consider the entire experience average, all things considered. Pros: - The hotel appears to have been renovated in 2014, and our room was clean. - The customer service at the check in desk was fantastic, and the staff were very friendly. - The beds were quite comfortable. - Location is walking distance to a shopping center featuring a Target and Barnes and Noble. Cons: - The A/C unit in our room was outdated and inefficient. This was a big disappointment for me as someone who likes to sleep cold. Our A/C was running full blast for the 72 hours we were here and I was still sweating at night because our room was so warm. Not only was the unit weak, it also pointed at the desk rather than the bed. So one tiny corner of the room got nice and cold while the rest of the room (where we slept) stayed quite warm. - The customer service at the bistro/coffee bar lounge was nonexistent. Twice during my stay I went down to order something and could hear and see people in the back kitchen rummaging around or talking, but no one ever came out to assist. Waited 5-10 mins each time before giving up. - The mountain views we were promised at check-in by the very nice employee were entirely blocked by a tree. I didn't hate our stay here, but I would explore other options in Layton if I had to stay here again. read more

Let me just say the one redeeming quality of this hotel is the front desk staff and the bartender who comes in most nights. First of all you are in Utah, so you can't just go down for a drink, you have to buy food as well. The room was very small and awkwardly set up. I will never understand the table that has a rounded sloped end on it so anything you put too close to the edge will slide off. There is no complimentary coffee in the lobby like most hotels have, and you have to buy breakfast from the bistro at the bar along with buying their Starbucks coffee. You have to lean over the couch to turn on the lamp behind it, and the bedside lamp has a switch on the completely opposite side of it so you have to stretch over the bed, reach around it to turn it off. The ice machine wasn't working. At least there are pretty good restaurant options around, although avoid Outback AT ALL COSTS. read more

I stayed here for 3 nights for business in Layton and Syracuse. I have never stayed at a Courtyard Marriott before, but if they are anything like this one, I do not plan on booking stays at one ever again. The hotel room felt dated and gross. The walls were painted brown, and it made the room feel perpetually dark, as if you were staying in a cave. There was no thermostat; the AC/heater was an old school unit that was not conducive for overnight use unless you like it really cold or really warm. The ice machine dispensed dirty ice (see picture). The WiFi did not work for the first half of my stay (none of my devices could connect). The good? The staff members were nice, and the room was quiet. The communal areas were nice, although I never spent time there. Nice view of the mountains from the front parking lot. I guess this is a decent option if you must stay in Layton (it appears that most hotels in this area have bad reviews). I would probably stay at another hotel in the Marriott chain in a nearby city and commute over if I have a work trip here again. read more

This is the worst experience I've had with a hotel. Firstly, upon turning on the TV it became obvious half the channels didn't work. We called the front desk and they sent up a maintenance worker who told us this was a recurring issue. Instead we chose to stream because it was advertised as "free," but realized that was also not working. Front desk said they had no idea what was going on. Room service came in to clean but only made the bed and didn't vacuum or wipe the counters. The room itself didn't give the feeling that it was all the way clean - the couch had a whiff of urine emanating from it. The popcorn ceilings and blaring air conditioner were also a nice touch. Oh! And the shower had a constant stream of water pouring out and the lever for the toilet was broken. Amazing. I'm disappointed not only in the quality of my stay, but the way the staff handled it. They communicated with me via the phone and didn't send anyone to help, didn't offer a voucher for their bistro - nothing. Just empty apologies and quickly hanging up. Lastly, we were given a balcony view and yet the door leading to it was closed shut/stuck. What was the point? read more

I can't say enough good things about our stay here a few weeks back. Hotel is clean, super easy access to main roads, and walking distance to great restaurants and shopping. That said, the best part of our stay was the hospitality. I made a mistake in booking the wrong size room for my family, but Natalie at the front desk was amazing and went above and beyond and helped us get the perfect room for our time there. Unfortunately, this hotel wasn't the one for me. Check in was quick, totally normal. Very helpful. I've spent enough time in hotels that I've got status at most of the major chains. First of all, there are two wings in the hotel that don't connect. They didn't really explain this at check in. So I ended up going to the wrong wing and wandering around before going back to the lobby to start over. The maps on each floor do not depict this. I get to my room. It seems fine. But there is an odd ball cabinet in the corner... with a small fridge and microwave in it stuff in. So much so that it hangs open. The balcony is nice, with some furniture on it. The shower though; Such a highlight! The shower insert panel is completely disbonding from the wall. But also, here in room 329, you can expect to run the water for about 10 minutes before you get some hot water. I can't believe that in a desert environment, that meets any type of corporate "Green" initiative. To top off your bathing experience, you'll get to dry off with what I can only describe as left over Motel 6 towels. And then there is a television set. About 1/2 the channels are "Not Authorized" due to a dispute between Marriott and DirectTV, as I was told by the front desk when I called down. I'll go back to staying at the Hilton just down the street. Same local distance to shopping and restaurants but seems more put together. read more

This place is not worthy of the name Marriott. Our room was dirty! There were pubes all over the sink and bathtub! It's like they didn't even try! The front desk had a smile but that was about it. She wasn't very helpful beyond that. We had to ask where to go, elevator location, additional parking, and breakfast information. Not to mention no offers of upgrades or anything. There were a few suspicious persons in the lobby and parking lot. By suspicious I mean, we were certain there were drug deals going on. I would not recommend this place, especially not for family events. read more

I should start by admitting I'm not a huge fan of the Courtyard by Marriott chain. No matter which location I visit, it seems there's always one shortcoming that mars our stay. This Courtyard was about average for what I consider an average chain. Positives: -- Decent location, in that it was close to shopping and within walking distance to many restaurants -- Clean and fairly new (refurbished?) -- Friendly staff Averages: -- Avg sized room with avg amenities, though the bed was a bit too soft for me Negatives: -- Odd layout on second/third floors; there were two unconnected hotel sections. We chose the wrong elevator and could not get to our room without starting over at the lobby. -- No central stairs to lobby and only one elevator per section; each was always busy -- Breakfast (not included in price) was ridiculously slow, even with few other patrons. One morning, it took me 10 min just to get a cup of coffee due to confusion in a previous order which (apparently) had to involve all three staff. Food service was glacial. We went outside the hotel on the following mornings -- The lobby bar, which doubled as a breakfast counter, was uninviting If ever back to this area I'd try the Hilton Garden Inn around the corner; to see if they can do better. read more

I love a good Marriott! Lots of great memories and happy moments associated with this brand--this Courtyard held my expectations and I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Layton. The staff is great and helpful, always going above and beyond to make sure my stay is up to par. There is a pool and gym available, the rooms are newly remodeled and clean, and it's in an awesome location. Lots of shopping, restaurants, and movie theaters close by. The rooms are also equipped with a microwave and mini fridge. It's also just right off of Antelope Dr., making the interstate quick and easy to access. The only downside is there is no continental breakfast. Pretty bummed about that, seeing as my entire life revolves around food and I wish Courtyard would cater to that need. They do open a bistro in the mornings, so you can pay to eat a little treat before leaving, but there is just something about free bagels and bananas that I just LOVE. Overall, clean and cozy. Wifi, television, and comfortable beds will make your night pleasant. If you're looking for a great place, stay here and hit up Target for some breakfast food the next morning. TIPS & TRICKS: * For any hotel, request the top floor. There won't be any little kiddos jumping on your head and you'll get a perfect nights rest. read more

Great stay, with terrific customer service from check-in to check out. Props to Kat at the desk for treating us like VIPs with a big smile and warm welcome. She's the superstar! Megan at the Bistro obviously loves serving guests. Housekeeping staff was friendly, too. Room: 5. Accommodations were clean and quiet. It seems apparent this place is trying to keep the standard high, and is not afraid to spend the money needed to do that. Food: 4 The food in the bistro was good, not great, and it was a tad pricey. Loved my cooked fresh omelette! Exterior: 5. Plenty of parking, and some shade (very nice to have shade when it is almost 100 outside). Value: 5. Our rate was really great - probably because of the renovations. Only a tad shy of 5 stars, as this is my first visit (I want consistency to get a 5), and this is not a high end resort, but it feels close! Okay hotel. House keeping needs some improvement. Staff members are very friendly. Gym has two TM and free weights, but they had no towels and same in the pool area (used towels at the pool were sitting there overnight and about 36 hrs...where's the house keepers!? ) Room had collage dorm size fridge, microwave, and frat screen tv, which doesn't offer any pay per view (this is Utah baby!!) Room is somewhat outdated, but so the rest of Marriott group, right? Area offers many venues inckuding Indian Vietnamese American etc. Also across the street from barnes and novels, so if you get board at hotel you can run across the street and get some quality reading. read more

This Marriot is really nice. First off, they have a fitness center and of course a indoor pool and jucuzzi. But they also have a Bistro area that serves Starbucks coffee and food as well. I am not big on paying the price of hotel food so I cannot say I ate there. They have a business area by the lobby that is actually pretty nice. It looks like everything was just recently rennovated or something. What won me over though was the fire pit they had outside. Yeah, a fire pit!!! SOOO COOL, DUDE! Brand new to Utah and I get to stay at a hotel where I can chill outside and not freeze?! Plus, I got to enjoy the beautiful flames. Now, I really wanted to get a metal coat hangar and make a smore or twenty but I thought I would get into trouble. Plus, I was able to get free wi-fi outside there and in my room! The room was amazing! King size bed, tv, couch, large bathroom....need I say more? Mmmm....I fell in love and I am sure you will too! read more

Check in was fine. Customer service was little subpar but it was 10pm. When we got to our room it was freezing cold and we noticed the window was cracked. We turned on the heat and let it go. But the people in the rooms all around us were running up and down the hallway and knocking on each others doors and talking very loudly. My husband went to talk with the desk and he was confused about why this was a problem. He gave my husband attitude when we requested a new room and asked if we wanted to buy a whole different room. We just wanted to switch rooms but he made it seem like it was a huge deal. read more

Love this Courtyard Marriott. This was my first stay and the service was great. As a platinum member, it was awesome to get the full treatment. The service was friendly and even got an upgrade. We got recommendations on local food and things to do. They also gave complimentary water and market item with a bonus scratch off that I got bonus points. They is a Starbucks inside and you can get breakfast for a cost in the morning. The rooms could use a few updates as the rooms was big but furniture did not look like it fit and looked older. The hotel itself was gorgeous and very modernly decorated inside and like others have said, it's been updated but they did a great job! However, I have a huge bone to pick with the day manager named Stephanie Kirchhefer - who acted as if me and my guests were threatening the livelihood of the hotel over a birthday/Pool Party! I had called in a few times before check in to ask if it was okay that we have food and guests over to swim and it all sounded okay until the day we checked in. The girl at the front desk said she would text her boss and check to see if it was alright & immediately I saw a text that said "NO". Okay, that's fine...but there were clearly no signs in the pool room that said NO FOOD OR DRINK. Also, there was a table with chairs that looked like it was for eating. Whatever. We didn't want to start any trouble but we asked if we could set up decorations and food in the lobby area or a room that was suggested to me by another representative when I had called in before, and the answer to that was we had to pay $200 to use it. Alright, whatever..so we asked if we could set up in their little lobby area so we wouldn't be in the way while guests checked in. The front desk attendant said it would be fine...so we set up. I then see a lady walking back and forth the entire time we're setting up - as if there was a problem. Mind you, there's absolutely no one there but my nephew and I who are setting up a little table with decor. I then call her over to ask if she was the manager, to which she replies yes. "Is there a problem? You're acting like you're feeling some type of way or that you want to say something" "Nope. There's no problem but I thought you guys would be blocking the business center area, however I don't think that's gonna happen. I just don't want there to be any issues with our guests being bothered with kids running around is all" "Well we'll clean up after ourselves and that won't be an issue. So I don't understand why you keep pacing back and forth like there's a problem" "Nope no problem" Then, when our guests start arriving I just notice her pacing back and forth by the pool room where we were. It felt like being an uninvited guest somewhere and we couldn't even enjoy my nephews party because it felt uncomfortable - and we kept having to shush the kids and keep on our toes about every single thing. We are very responsible people and make sure to always clean up after ourselves/company. We even moved our little food table outside so that we could stay out of the way...but it was too chilly outside for the kids to eat that we ended up back inside to eat. That even felt like we were intervening as she kept walking around staring at us. I've never experienced such horrible and outright rude service from a manager at a hotel ever in my life! Even reactivating our room keys was a pain! She looked like she was annoyed while doing so. She also told my sister that there was absolutely no food allowed in the pool area, and that birthday parties are prohibited during the week, which I find very hard to believe! There was barely anyone at the hotel and the kids were not bothering or disturbing anyone! It just felt like she did not want us there and I wanted to say that on behalf of Marriott, the customer experience should never ever have to be as horrid as this was for us. My sister works for Marriott and yes we did get a friends and family rate, but that gives her no right to treat us or anyone else for that matter, this way. She has no business being a manager with this level of unprofessionalism. read more

The great staff and upscale facilities are enough of a reason to stay in this hotel. Marriott is remodeling this property but it's mostly done. There are asphalt issues in front of the building, which the city is on alert to fix. My only gripe is that there is no complimentary breakfast. The indoor pool is beautiful. I've heard the workout room is as well. This is work travel for me and I appreciate the beautiful cotton linens and comfortable couch in my room. The TV pivots so you can watch it in bed. Otherwise, the TV. Starbucks Coffee downstairs is priced well. There is also free coffee, cocoa and cookies. This hotel is very clean. The lobby decor is upscale tourist fare. The room furniture is soft and elegant. The staff is amazing. Ask for Manager Rachel if you need anything. Everyone at the front desk has been accommodating and ready to help. I watched the maintenance guy get a ladder off, at 8pm, to retrieve a guest's frisbee off the room. Free computer stations downstairs and wifi. The property sits in the heart of restaurants and shopping centers. Around the corner from the convention center. One mile from a fantastic mall! Freeway adjacent. read more

Solid little business hotel. It has recently been redesigned so it definitely has more of a modern feel. We had a king suite because we were traveling with child and like to have sleep separation when it's not financially crippling. The little couch in the living room folded out into a twin bed. The child can sleep on anything, this would not be comfortable for an adult. Our king bed was slightly more comfortable. We had a nice patio and the room was a very respectable size. Old school individual AC units that were loud but did the trick. The towels were scratchy but that seems to be how most middle of the road lodging goes. This one had an indoor pool and outdoor fire pits which we didn't get to use but would have if we were there one more day. They have a little convenience store with snacks and items you might have forgot. We tried to eat at the cafe the morning we were flying out. Poor people could not get ordered right. Quoting 8 minutes for my family, food not coming out for 30 minutes. They refunded their money. We were told 10 minutes and 20 minutes later we had no food and had to go. The hubs asked them to change our food Togo which they did and we were off. As we were walking out, I checked he food and it wasn't ours. I took it back and hey apologized and refunded us. Many people weren't getting their food and the hotel was struggling to pull it together. This was probably an anomaly but I wouldn't th to eat there or even get coffee if you are in any sort of rush. read more

The front desk staff was friendly. I did like the bistro and it had good food. But my room was so noisy and it was hard to sleep. I could hear the people in the room above me walking on the floor, and I could also hear people walking in the hall. The walls and floors seemed very thin and not a lot of sound proofing. My pillows we too soft and it made my sleep very uncomfortable. I ended up having to unplug my fridge because it made loud noises. It was not a comfortable stay so I won't be back. read more

It is the little things that make this hotel great. I was on a business trip traveling alone so the area is well lit and a shopping area across the street. When I checked in the front desk gave me a welcome note that was hand written. Nice touch. One night during my stay it snowed a lot and I was dreading going outside because the rental car place forgot to put a snow brush/scraper in the car. I asked the front desk if I could borrow and one of the gentleman who worked there offered to brush my car off for me! Quite possibly the bottom feeder of the Marriott chain. The hotel is a standard Courtyard in structure. It's adequately clean. The staff are commendably cheerful. Well, except for the lady who acted like my traveling companion was trying to steal from her personal household checking account when he asked why there wasn't coffee available in the lobby in morning. There was coffee. You just had to buy it from the bar which although breakfast is advertised to start at 6:00 and this was 6:20 was unstaffed. I could have lived with the lack of coffee. It was the condescension and indignity of the front desk lady's attitude that was distasteful. The. On Saturday after a long day of work I thought I'd grab an adult beverage from the bar. It was 9:20 and I thought a drink before early bed would be good. Nope. Not here. The hotel manager has a policy that the bar must close at 9:00 on weekends. So, I could have gotten in my car and driven to a place to drink but that has it's downsides as well. Bottom line: Stay here if you're a teetotaler who doesn't drink cofee and wants to be treated like a child and spoken to like you're a sub-human leech. I found the front desk staff to be very nice and helpful. The room was spacious and pretty clean. I also liked that it was right off I15. The reasons for only three stars are: -the girl running the breakfast and coffee counter did not know how the make our coffee which in itself isn't too bad but she asked this girl who was clearly on break ( came in wearing a coat) to help her, at first the girl just stood there telling her what to do and when that didn't work she took over... Now I realize I'm pickier than some people but the only thing I could think of when this happened was that she had probably been outside smoking and is now making my coffee without washing her hands!!!! GROSS - the first girl kept flipping her hair and scratching her head while helping make our coffee. - paid $10 for drinks I threw away - the fire alarm went off sometime between 5 and 6am due to a dryer overheating? I would probably stay here again on my way through. I will just go elsewhere for coffee. read more

The room I was in was recently renovated, and it was nicely furnished, but it was not as clean as it should have been. There was popped corn on the floor, and it looked like it hadn't been vacuumed for a few days. Also, I got two form letters under the door accusing me of having a pet of some kind in the room, and threatening to charge me an additional $250 to "deep clean" the room. I don't even own a pet. Finally, this hotel doesn't have a free breakfast. Other hotels that charge this much for a room offer free breakfast. The wifi was free, and it worked well enough, and there were built-in USB ports for charging the phones. read more

For a courtyard, this isn't too shabby a hotel and is pretty typical of a courtyard. The front desk was always courteous. The room was small, but clean. There was a fridge and microwave, which I appreciated, since I was there four nights. The hotel is easy to get to off of the freeway, and Target's conveniently down the street. There's no free breakfast, but there's free wifi and parking. Overall I am not a Marriott fan because you can't double dip like the Hilton Honors program (earn miles and points simultaneously). However, I stayed here as part of the mega bonus promotion (stay two times at a Marriott hotel, get one night free, up to two nights free through January 2014). So, I was able to get two nights free! read more

Front desk staff was very cheerful and helpful when I checked in at 1:30am. The bed linens were clean and my room had a fried and microwave. That ends the good stuff. My room had a bizarre odor that smelt like burnt hair or smoke. The room itself looked fairly dated, appliances didn't match decor, draped we're damaged, most items in the room looked like they were quite aged and the carpet was very worn and stained. At 8:30am, as I was getting ready, a housekeeper started to enter my room without knocking or announcing themselves. I find this to be one of the highest violations of hotel protocol while I'm traveling (especially while I'm standing naked). Overall, this is probably on the lowest end of courtyards I've ever stayed at. Definitely needs updating. read more

Great rates, very nice place, the pool is great, everything is great about this place, location, everything, but I must 3 star it for the fact that I reserved back in April, trip was in August, all reservation confimations I received had 2 queen beds, so were were very surprised to walk into the room and find a king bed and a chair that pulls out into a single bed, doesn't work to well with 2 adults and 3 pre teens, but we made it work. Exceptional hotel manager (Dave). I lost the keys to my rental car. The desk clerk reached out to the manager to check if keys had been turned in. He helped me search the parking lot. When we didn't find them he drove me to my destination. When I returned to the hotel to meet roadside assistance he quickly approached to check on how I was doing. He asked if I had eaten lunch and when I replied no he said he was going to bring me an extra box lunch from the conference they were hosting. The chicken Caesar salad was delicious! We stay here about once a month and we have always been very satisfied. read more
