The hotel rooms smell like raw sewage. Instead of a restful sleep, I'm awake writing a review to warn travelers of this stinky dump. Hoping to go nose blind, but I swear the scent is only growing stronger. read more

We are traveling without reservations (something we never did before retiring) and needed a room in Hayes, KS. We're rewards members with Hilton, Holiday Inn and Marriott. Struck out with Holiday Inn (the only room they had left was a very over-priced wheelchair accessible room). Based on Yelp reviews, I was a little reluctant to try the Fairfield Inn but we decided to head over here and give it a try. The hotel appeared to have been recently renovated and when I inquired, the guy at the desk said they had done a total renovation that was just completed since the beginning of this year. We got a very nice room (choice of a king or 2 queen sized beds) for a very reasonable price. The young man working the front desk was very nice and very accommodating. The room and bathroom were both very clean and room smelled fresh - no musty or other nasty odors as mentioned in some other reviews. The a/c was working fine. The carpet and wall covering in both the rooms and hallways appears to be new and the furniture in the rooms is definitely fairly recent. Didn't spot any sewer cats. Clean, quiet and got a good night's sleep. read more

We have stayed in dozens of FFI's for hundreds of nights over many years. While they typically rate 4 or 5 stars, this one in Hays, Kansas missed the mark. On the bright side, the front desk attendant was an outstanding young man. He was doing everything at the hotel by himself when we checked in around 4pm, and he was handling all of it amazingly well. Most other aspects of our stay fell short, however. We had booked this reservation two months previous and, as always, my silver/gold profile requested a standard king high-floor room away from the elevators. For the first time ever, we had been assigned a first floor handicap accessible room. We promptly switched out of the handicap room so that it might be available for someone who needs it, but we were informed that all king rooms above the first floor were already pre-assigned to other guests and not available. As for our room and the hotel property generally: the hotel is an older one and, while it was clean and the common areas maintained nicely, our room was dated and in need of bathroom calking and bathroom brightening. The room and carpet felt damp from humidity, and most of the bathroom towels were worn out, although clean. The iron holder hanging in the sink area literally suddenly fell off the wall while one of us used the sink. The shower drain was clogged, so the basin quickly filled up with water when we ran the shower. To answer Marriott's anticipated post-review question before it is asked, "no, we did not call the desk to ask to have the shower drain repaired. Such should have been done on your time before a guest's arrival, not on our time during our short stay. " read more

Came around 3:30am and no late night specials for a few hours of sleep! Lol. Next! Small town jokes.

Gross. I stayed here last night and was pretty horrified that they can charge $150 a night for a dank, dirty room. Lobby is pristine and staff is welcoming but I could have mistaken the room for the inside of a whale's mouth the way it smelled. Just a quick list of nastiness: Blood on pillow, hairs on sheets, water stains on basin, creaking floors, dirt and food in carpet, stepped in something sticky, and for goodness sakes, Fairfield, open freakin window every once in a while. If you can't find anything cheaper, I'm sorry. I advise you pack a can of Lysol and skip the 2 week old fruit and watery eggs at the breakfast bar. read more

Sewer cat sewer cat what are they feeding you, sewer cat sewer cat its not your fault https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNXIZuIBJKs. There is a small gang of cats they live in the sewers in the parking lot that surround the hotel, check out the pictures. When we first arrived I couldn't park because the cats were on patrol and protecting their territory. At night the fear factor goes up by 10 as they hide in the shadows under the cars hissing at customers. Getting my Achilles tendon chewed up by wild sewer cats was not one of the risks I weighed when I booked this hotel, but it should have been. I told the front desk about the gang of sewer cats and they seemed well aware and content with their feline over-lords and dominion they had over the hotel's guests. The room a/c made noise but didn't cool. I booked this hotel because there was a jacuzzi tub in the room but the jets didn't even work so it was just a large tub. In the morning the breakfast concluded at 9AM, 9AM!!! Even the sewer cats were still sleeping at 9AM. While I tried to get a little container of yogurt and cereal to go the lady cleaning up the area couldn't be bothered to help or acknowledge our existence. The "infused water" had chunks of brown and black particulate, which was unappetizing. The best part of the hotel was the cookies they had on check-in and the after dinner mints at the front desk, which was our breakfast. read more

I am an OTR truck driver, and broke down in Hays. I had the pleasure of staying the night here. Front desk staff was quite pleasant checking me in, asked if I had a preference in floors I stayed on. The room was very nice. 2 queen sized beds, microwave, fridge, free wifi, large tub/shower. Room smelled clean. Free breakfast in the morning, lots of the good stuff. Make them yourself waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage and all the rest of a typical continental breakfast. The big plus of this hotel, they have an indoor pool and whirlpool spa! Now, while the spa was MOST enjoyable, there was only 1 negative of the whole stay.....why have an indoor pool, if you're not going to have it heated during the winter? Just a thought. Overall, 5 stars on this hotel, I would DEFINITELY stay here again and recommend to others when looking for a place to stay the night along their trip! read more

I am walking out of this hotel room shaking and sick to my stomach. On the surface it looks ok. The lobby was nice and smelled fresh, however the room itself was a stench of musty odors. The AC eliminated some of the odor. But here's the clincher as to why I am sickened, I killed at least 8 baby roaches on surfaces and there were 4 or 5 IN MY BED!!! I have video of them running around under my sheets. I would never EVER stay at a Fairfield Inn again, I would rather sleep in my car. I can't post without a star, so I give 1. read more

If you are looking for blood stained sheets and pillows, this is the place for you. Checked in to find a disgusting room that just reeked if old motel room smell. Found the stains and was given the room next door. That room wasn't any better. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it was blood stained. Promptly checked out and went to another hotel. Marriott should be ashamed for putting their name on this unacceptable establishment. The health department is my next email. read more

Not even Ok for a stop over. Staff is friendly. Rooms are ok. Nothing wonderful as may expect from a Marriott. Sofa bed is horrible. Flattened mattress and about impossible to sleep upon. Bed is not that comfortable either. Room had weird odor. Once you did a scavenger hunt for the sheets, they came complete with last users toilet paper wrapped inside. The cockroach corner was happy and busy all night. Towels are discolored and stained. Ask for soap and it's an hour wait after two calls to the front desk. Only good is that the place was actually non smoking! Breakfast bar - teens hiding from parents blocking everything and little children sneezing all over the eggs and food while serving themselves. Best to not return. Don't look under bed. It made my daughter crazy!!!! read more

If you travel on I-70 before get into Colorado, this would probably be the last place with some hotels to stay. I'm happy Yelp provides a place for customers to leave honest reviews even Marriott doesn't. Sum up this place: extremely over price; dirty; noisy. If you can keep driving, don't stop here. It is one of the worst Marriott hotel I ever stayed, you can hear all your neighbors, walking, talking .... And don't accidentally forget anything there, because they won't give it back to you. I had to call them like a dozen times to get my luggage back, because no one saw it then the manager "lock it up". Save money or find another. If you pay 150, you want to stay in a nice and clean hotel, not this one. read more

I've experienced MUCH better. As an Silver Awards member with Marriott both my wife and I have stayed in many different Marriott properties in the last few years. This property looks and feels like what I expect of a Fairfield Inn. However, as mentioned by another reviewer, the stench of damp and mustiness in the room was overwhelming. I did complain to the front desk but had been driving for 10 hours and just wanted to go to bed. When i took my shoes off, I realized the carpet was so damp my feet were sticking to it. I woke up a few hours later with the feeling I had been bitten on my legs by a mosquito but when I turned on the light I saw a flea on my white bed cover. My legs were bitten in several places (I'm quite allergic). I went to breakfast the next morning and came back to the room to realize just how bad the damp smell was. I was surprised that I had been able to sleep in the room. read more

Stayed for 1 night at this Fairfield Inn Hays, KS. Had a very good experience. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a young lady at the front desk. Her name is Kim and she politely smiled and said welcome to me as I approached the desk. Kim was alert and prepared to help me check in to my room. My room, on the 3rd floor, was clean and quiet and spacious. Free WiFi, it works fast and very good download speed. The exercise room is a little too small, but clean and well equipped. In the morning for breakfast, there was a very good selection of food to choose from. I will definitely stay here again. read more

I had to request new sheets for the beds, which had obviously not been changed. There was blood on the toilet in the bathroom. Breakfast was not even warm. read more

It's not a terrible place but the room was very musty...to the point that the carpet was wet. I think there may be some drainage issues as the bathroom sink smelled of sewage. They are doing the best the can but all in all, whoever built this place may have done a crap job. read more

There aren't many choices in the middle of western KS, but this was definitely a clean place. I stayed with Marriott points so I'm not sure what the value of the stay was, but the place was nice and there were a handful of places to eat within walking distance. If I were making another drive between St. Louis and Denver, I'd stay here again. read more

This hotel is ok. The walls and ceiling are very thin, so you can hear every footstep above you. If you don't have a considerate neighbor, you'll likely hear their TV if they have it up too loud. The rooms are clean, and relatively modern. The Internet was better than average, and every room has a fridge and microwave. In room coffee is not bad, and the staff was friendly. I'd stay here again, but I'll definitely ask to be on the top floor next time. read more

Wished I would've taken 5 minutes to look up the reviews!!! Joined the Marriott rewards program a few months ago so we are trying to rack up some points...this place WASN'T worth it!! With 2 tired kids in tow, opened the door to room 324 and we were hit with a strong pungent odor. The Mr. and I are very laid back travelers...I said let's air it out turn on the a/c it'll be fine...WRONG! I'm going to guess at one point they had a water leak/flooding in that room and it totally smells like mold and mildew. Told the front desk about this morning...TOTALLY blew us off, offering zero explanation. I even warned them I was going to leave a very negative review whenever I could...response was...be my guest! For $160.00 a night, I do expect a little more, especially in the customer service department! read more

We have been regulars at this hotel for the past 4 years as our son attends a local college. There's nothing fancy about this western Kansas hotel, but it's the home town customer service that keeps us coming back. The staff, to include Andria and the gal who leads the cleaning services, has always been super friendly and courteous and the rooms have always been clean and ready on our arrival. We are especially grateful for Miss Bethany Bell (Assistant Manager) who has always gone above and beyond to take care of us. The 5-stars definitely goes to the people of this hotel! Now, if I was rating the breakfast, then 4-stars would be a stretch. The coffee is always fresh and hot and it compliments a healthy menu at the breakfast bar. However, if you have a hearty appetite for a plate of biscuits, gravy, and bacon, you won't find it here. A disappointing corporate move. But besides that, this has been a great place to stay in Hays, KS. read more
