Sugar Maple Farm K9 Boarding and Day Care - Large, safe space for all day doggie play!

Sugar Maple Farm K9 Boarding and Day Care

We've boarded our family dog, Joey, with Sugar Maple multiple times over the last few years…read more Jennifer and her family are kind, welcoming people that have been very accommodating over the years. Joey is always excited when we are pulling up the driveway to SM! While away this most recent trip we changed our plans to extend our vacation, Jennifer allowed Joey to extent his stay which made our time much more relaxing and enjoyable! Upon pick-up Joey was happy, healthy and clearly had been well cared for during his stay.

Before choosing Sugar Maple Farm, we spent a lot of time researching the best possible boarding…read moreoptions in Virginia. The abundance of 5-star reviews reassured us, and we even scheduled a one-night trial stay to test it before our longer family trip. During that visit, we were promised strong communication, regular photo updates, and a high standard of care while we were away. Sadly, our actual experience was the complete opposite. While traveling in Asia, we were told we'd receive regular updates. Instead, we got only three photos over a span of 10 days--and only after multiple follow ups and texts from our side. The lack of communication and unease made it difficult for any of us to enjoy our trip and we knew something was not right. When it came time for pickup, the owner was not even present. Just a few hours before we landed, we received a text informing us that our dog was injured and her teenage son would be there for pick up. There was no explanation, no phone call, no attempt to take responsibility, and not a single follow-up to check on how she was doing after. It felt cold, negligent, and deeply unprofessional. We later learned the injury was a torn ACL requiring surgery. What's most upsetting is that we had clearly disclosed a prior ACL injury in the intake paperwork--on the opposite leg. That information was either ignored or not reviewed at all. There was no transparency, no apology, and absolutely no concern for how serious the injury was. We chose Sugar Maple Farm because we wanted a safe and trusted place. When something went wrong, there was no accountability--only deflection. That trust was completely broken. It's devastating to watch our dog struggle with pain and limited mobility, and to know she now faces a 12-15 week recovery from a surgery that may have been preventable with proper care. We came home expecting to see her happy and healthy. Instead, we're managing a serious injury with no answers on what happened. If you value your dog's safety and well-being, I urge you to look elsewhere. Sugar Maple Farm may have glowing reviews, but our experience was proof that when things go wrong, this facility does not step up.

The Backyard Pack - They just sent me this picture from his last visit!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! When we were first shopping around for a doggy daycare, I assumed all daycares…read morewere created equally but I was VERY wrong. Most larger daycares fill a room to capacity and provide a couple attendants to make sure no fights breakout, there's no real interaction with the dogs. The Backyard Pack (BYP) engages with your dogs and loves them as one of their own. They create a safe, clean and healthy environment where dogs can thrive and have fun. And unlike the larger daycares we tried, the staff at BYP takes the pups out for potty breaks rather than letting them go in the room where the dogs are playing. I HIGHLY recommend the BYP if you're looking for doggy daycare or boarding, your pup will thank you!

The place was easily located (by the blue door). They greeted him, took him back for his assessment and let me know he was good to go in about 10-15mins. When I picked him up they informed me that he did well and was welcome to join the daycare. He was sooooooo tired when he left there (which is great for me) lol. I love that they post videos of the dogs playing so that you worry a little less. They also walk the dogs around noon so you don't have to worry about poop and pee all over the floors. Fantastic daycare facility! I recommend it to those first time nervous pet parents.

They were professional and provided timely responses to all of our questions. While we were out of town, they regularly sent us photos and updates so we knew Sami was well taken care of. And Leila was such a gracious host to share her home for a long weekend. Can't recommended them enough. So glad we found them. We'll definitely be using Leila Knows Best the next time we travel.

I wish there were more stars to give on this review for Leila Knows Best!…read more My Sansa is a 10 month old Soft Coated Wheaten terrier. The breed is known to be highly intelligent. Her trainer tells me that she is very stubborn with extremely high energy. She is also rebellious and constantly pushing boundaries to see what she can get away with. And I adore her. Sansa was badly injured by her first groomer at age 14 weeks, and had to have emergency surgery, plus 6 weeks of heavy sedation so she could recover. As a result she is now anxious all the time. She is jumpy and scared and ready to bite the hand that wants to leash her-mine! I had left her with a dog sitter for a weekend in September and then reserved the same sitter for the first week of November. I think that the sitter was too polite to tell me that she didn't want to deal with my Cujo-style dog. She called about 12 hours before she was supposed to show up and backed out. I am glad she did because that lead me to Elodie and Moe-"Leila Knows Best", who are THE PERFECT dog sitters. They treated Sansa like she was their own. I know how disruptive she can be, yet they never complained. She was genuinely happy there. I had to extend my trip by two nights and they accommodated her without fussing, hemming or hawing. I received several updates for the 8 days that I was away. They took her to the waterfront to play, for several walks a day and even pulled out a crate for her to sleep in because that's what she is trained to do. I didn't have to lug her crate over. Their place is spotless. They have a beautiful pooch called Leila who seems calm and well trained. Sansa clearly enjoyed her stay with aunty Elodie and Uncle Moe! To Elodie and Moe-I cannot thank you enough! I hope you'll agree to take her again. (Not soon because as Moe said-she is a dog and a half). Lol She is in puppy kindergarten now and should be much easier next time!! If you want someone you can trust with your canine baby, look no further. .
