But he's a totally normal playful happy puppy at home, around family, and once he gets to know the stranger. Unfortunately we sometimes go out of town and require boarding facilities. We tried another place in Warrenton, I won't name, but it claimed to be a suite for pets. Booked a 4 day stay and we're not sure what happened but our dog came back more nervous that he left. It took 2 weeks before he was back to himself. He also had what looked to be a callous on both front legs which he did not have when we dropped him off. His blanket also smelled of urine, which was totally strange because even with all his complexes he NEVER goes to the bathroom in the house. He'll whine and moan and stand by the door until we take him out. Needless to say we never went back there again. I tried another place in old town Haymarket. Were I was not given a tour of the facilities and grounds. Instead they took my dog in the back right away and let me watch his experience on the monitors at the front desk. But they didn't seem to know how to take care of a rescue like our dog. They took him in the back into the indoor play room and tried to integrate him into the pack way too soon. Not giving him time to acclimate. Instead of joining the pack he stayed with the young lady that brought him back there. Knowing my dog it would have been better to introduce him to one dog at a time instead of overwhelming him with a pack. Because he didn't immediately join the pack they told me he wasn't a good candidate. I think the young lady (teenager) was possibly inexperienced or wasn't trained well. Had she been, she would he have tried a different approach. Especially after I informed her of the best way for our dog to meet new people and dogs. Then we found Pawsawhile. We had the walk through and yes it's a converted house but the property is huge with large fenced outdoor play areas. We were shown the entire property and facility and in no time or Dog was playing with the nun that was showing us around. He was walking with her, coming to her when called, fetching the ball. And I love how she didn't force herself on him, she allowed him to come to her making a great connection with him. We've been using them for daycare 1 day a week so he can play with other dogs and boarding when we travel. Now Our dog will drag us into the building when he goes there, he seems so happy. When we drop him off he gladly goes with the handler and doesn't even look back at me to say goodbye, lol. I highly recommend PawsAWhile. Everyone we've come in contact with has been kind, and easy to talk to, and very responsive. The nuns are caring and informative and you can tell they love animals and from my experience take great care of your family Pet.

The online portal and app made it easy to upload my cats documents and book the taxi to pick them up day of. Jason, one of the owners actually came to pick my cat up. I added a happy pet package which allowed a playtime daily, and I requested they send me pictures each day, which they obliged. If I ever need to board again I'll definitely be going with alpha pet.

The abundance of 5-star reviews reassured us, and we even scheduled a one-night trial stay to test it before our longer family trip. During that visit, we were promised strong communication, regular photo updates, and a high standard of care while we were away. Sadly, our actual experience was the complete opposite. While traveling in Asia, we were told we'd receive regular updates. Instead, we got only three photos over a span of 10 days--and only after multiple follow ups and texts from our side. The lack of communication and unease made it difficult for any of us to enjoy our trip and we knew something was not right. When it came time for pickup, the owner was not even present. Just a few hours before we landed, we received a text informing us that our dog was injured and her teenage son would be there for pick up. There was no explanation, no phone call, no attempt to take responsibility, and not a single follow-up to check on how she was doing after. It felt cold, negligent, and deeply unprofessional. We later learned the injury was a torn ACL requiring surgery. What's most upsetting is that we had clearly disclosed a prior ACL injury in the intake paperwork--on the opposite leg. That information was either ignored or not reviewed at all. There was no transparency, no apology, and absolutely no concern for how serious the injury was. We chose Sugar Maple Farm because we wanted a safe and trusted place. When something went wrong, there was no accountability--only deflection. That trust was completely broken. It's devastating to watch our dog struggle with pain and limited mobility, and to know she now faces a 12-15 week recovery from a surgery that may have been preventable with proper care. We came home expecting to see her happy and healthy. Instead, we're managing a serious injury with no answers on what happened. If you value your dog's safety and well-being, I urge you to look elsewhere. Sugar Maple Farm may have glowing reviews, but our experience was proof that when things go wrong, this facility does not step up.

My review…read moreis really long in case there are any panicked yelpers looking for a dog trainer as I once was! But the short version is that they are great! The dog I adopted last year gradually developed what looked like severe leash aggression. I hired multiple trainers to come to our house to work with us, spoke with other trainers on the phone, and took an 8 week class for reactive dogs, but still had a dog that would get so panicked on a leash that she would turn around and bite me when she saw another dog approaching us. Because of her leash problems, I stopped feeling comfortable taking my once very social dog to the dog park despite her problems being generally confined to when she was on a leash. Slowly, Zoe started growling at people and children too. Walking the dog became a really stressful and exhausting activity so I decided to look into board and train programs and I am SO GLAD I did. After doing a little research I landed on TBYP. Zoe had an initial assessment and was deemed a good fit for the boot camp training program so I dropped her off for 5 weeks at TBYP with Brian and Laurie for a VERY reasonable price. Laurie emailed me updates occasionally and after 5 weeks I met Brian to pick Zoe up and receive my training. The training session was brief, and my first impression was that Zoe was not perfect on a leash, but had come a long way. I also went with Brian and Zoe into a dog park and watched with relief as Zoe played totally normally with other dogs as she once had. Brian and Laurie also provided a follow up training session a couple of weeks later, and answered multiple emails full of my questions. After having Zoe back for 3 months, and using the corrections I learned from Brian, Zoe is so much better. I think it took her a little time to realize I was going to use the same system as Brian and Laurie but once she did the growling, snarling, jumping around like a maniac, and (ahem) biting me stopped completely. Very occasionally if provoked Zoe will do a little anxious dance or small woof but that's about it. She doesn't growl at people, children, or dogs which feels like a Christmas miracle based on her behavior last March. For anyone nervous about leaving positive reinforcement training behind, I'll just say using corrections (which are mild) has worked so much better for my dog than the 5 months of positive reinforcement training did. I honestly think it's kinder to the dog to give clear guidelines and be in charge so they don't feel the need to be in charge themselves. To be clear, my dog is not perfect now, and will probably always be a little anxious on a leash (and sometimes off a leash), but Brian and Laurie gave her a great head start on training and with constant work at home she is a million times better. I also use Brian and Laurie for daycare and boarding since they are the only people I trust with my dog. If you have a dog with a problem you've been unsuccessful correcting I would highly suggest getting in touch with TBYP.

And unlike the larger daycares we tried, the staff at BYP takes the pups out for potty breaks rather than letting them go in the room where the dogs are playing. I am a neurotic owner of 3 dogs and just used them for the first time while my wife and I were out of town for a week. Each one of my dogs has a different personality and they dealt with all of them well; even my newer pup who barked at them forever the first day. I got several photos and videos each day showing my dogs playing, eating, etc. They administered pills and were able to walk all 3 of mine at once. We were frequent and…read moreloyal clients for years, but the relationship changed over the last 10 months as Moe increasingly focused on how to extract more money from us instead of cultivating a continued positive client relationship. It started with less and less updates and photos when we boarded our dog. When Moe did provide updates it was usually in conjunction with an offer to purchase credits for future stays (which we did and later came to regret). Then Moe started asking us to pay additional fees for stays we had previously negotiated and paid for, going so far as to request those additional fees while he was already watching our dog. This behavior started to make us feel uncomfortable in continuing to use his services and more concerned about leaving our dog in his care. Moe's behavior did not present as someone thankful to clients that consistently supported his dog watching business. We had been loyal clients for years and, this year in particular, had already used Moe's services nearly every month with more scheduled trips through the rest of the year. Despite our concerns, we continued to use Moe's services since we had pre-paid for two more stays through the end of the year. That changed when we requested to reschedule one of the stays. Well in advance of the trip, we asked Moe if he was available for a week the month before our trip. He confirmed he was, but when we requested to reschedule our original trip to that earlier week and use the pre-paid credit, Moe stated he was no longer available. When we referred him to the cancellation policy on his website, he offered the credit, but wouldn't let us use it until the end of the year. We reminded Moe that in the years we've consistently used his services, we have never rescheduled, and explained the importance of rescheduling our trip. Moe subsequently offered to board our dog for the requested week, but wanted an additional $150, despite our pre-paid credit exceeding the amount of time we were rescheduling for. We felt hustled and tried to handle this issue privately, but Moe stopped responding to us. Unfortunately we have lost over $1,000 in pre-paid and unused credit--a costly mistake that we won't be making again. We're sad that our relationship soured in this way, but we could no longer trust Moe and would suggest prospective clients be cautious about doing business with him.
