I do not recommend Bikecology…read more I asked Bikecology to replace my handlebar, headset, brake pads, bearings in my crankshaft, chain, one new tire, and to rewrap the end-bars with tape. The repairs were not rushed. It took a few days to order the parts and then they kept my bike for 3 days for the repairs. All together about one week, which was fine. The quality of the service was unfortunately very poor. The bike could not be ridden because the handlebars were loose. When gripping the end-bars, they simply rotated down because the handlebars were not tightened. This was dangerous, and they fixed it immediately. When riding home I noticed the brake pads were not correctly placed. The left brake lever was very loose as if it was forgotten. The replacement headset was the incorrect height. The wrong part was ordered but they installed it anyway. They were plainly irritated the next day when I requested they re-tension the brake cables, adjust the brake pads. I paid for the service, so this seemed fair. I asked about the other issues, but they didn't care. It seemed as if the new parts were put on, but nothing was finished. The repairs were fairly priced if the work was complete and done fairly well, which it was not. I lived only 2 blocks from this location, but took my bike to a different shop. There, it was tuned up for a fair price and I paid for a new headset. Overall a waste of money paid for labor and cost of the headset.

I moved to Berlin recently and have been trying my best effort to improve my German and speak it in…read moreshops, etc. However, (what seemed like) the owner had no patience for my broken German and so we switched to English. He was still irritated, berating me that English is not his first language. I was looking for advice on my bike and possibly a tube replacement, he did not seem interested in doing so. I started to leave the shop and he shouted at me to come back. It got to the point that I was almost in tears in this man's bike shop. If you are able to speak fluent German I'm sure your experience will be smooth, however I would not recommend for those trying to learn German. Edit: After returning to collect my bike the same man told me he never wants to see me again, I responded with only politeness, but he will definitely not see me again. Kindness is important.

The employee (perhaps the owner) behind the counter was slow to acknowledge us, uninterested and dismissive. He was rude even by Berlin standards! Although there were no other customers and he hadn't been doing anything in particular when we entered, he suggested we make an appointment to come back later. This was on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Come on, changing a tube would have taken him five minutes.

What's more, they helped me straight away, although they were pretty busy on a Saturday. I'll go back to them any time, as I know they can be trusted and won't take advantage of you. Nett, hilfsbereit und kompetent! Immer gerne wieder. Hier weiß man, dass man nicht über's Ohr gehauen wird und das Personal Ahnung von der Sache hat. Nice little second-hand (only) bike shop…read more Mostly they seem to rebuild bikes from old (60-ies / 70-ies) race-bikes-frames into vintage city bikes with more 'hip' normal handle bars. Also cheap options for more regular bikes. They helped me out very friendly and gave me a lot of attention although I just bought a cheap bike. They close for about 3 month during winter.

I rented a bike from the location on 185 Oranienstrasse (in Kreuzberg - also helpful that there are…read moretwo locations!) and not only is it 8 euro as opposed to the usual 10 at most bike rentals in Berlin, the bikes are of good quality and the owner is very kind and helpful with everything. I would without a doubt rent from them again, and have already recommended the bike shop to friends.
