He possesses a passion for nature photography which oozes out of every photograph. Ask him how he does it, and this self-effacing artist with a camera will explain it to you, making it sound simple. It reminds of a woman observing Michelangelo carve a statue. She remarked that it did not seem so complicated. Michelangelo replied "Oh, it's easy. All you need is a hammer, chisel, and a block of marble." When you visit the Monteux Gallery and stand by the creator of these masterpieces, you have a sense that you are in the presence of the Michelangelo of nature photography. The works are reasonably priced, far less than in the tourist meccas of coastal Maine. You might be surprised that Monteux also offers lessons for stunningly modest prices - you could spend more on a lobster lunch. Take a lesson! Let a great photographer guide you to master your camera, grow your composition skills, and learn how to "see photographically." Residents of Maine will want to own one of his treasures as the centerpiece over the mantle and visitors to Maine will be well satisfied to take home an image of Maine's beauty to cherish and value.

We walked over from the main strip of downtown and loved the vibe as soon as we arrived. Walking down the stairs to get to the brewery versus the glass blowing shop was so cute. With apples on the ground from the apple trees, it couldn't be more "Maine". When walking in, you order at the bar for both food and drink and then there is a booth/trailer out back where the food comes out. The inside is set up for open mic night and then outside they have a full stage where they host live music. There is plenty of seating outside at the picnic tables as well. We ordered a couple beers, the Margherita pizza, the potato chips, and the Carrot Top salad. I cannot tell you howwwwwwwww amazing the salad was!! I have never had a salad like this and I ate every last bite. The roasted carrots were so good, combined with the crispy onions and the dressing; it was heaven. The chips were incredible and the dip that comes with it just elevates it that much more. I believe it was a pickle dip of some sort? I can't remember specifically, just that I needed a vat of it. Then the pizza?! We couldn't finish it but man did we want to! Add all this tasty food to a beautiful backdrop and we were the happiest little foodies in Maine. Hands down best stop in Ellsworth!

So much to look at in the house...many, many original furnishings and personal belongings. I appreciate the self-guided tour as well...nice to go at your own pace and listen to as much, or little details as you wish. The lady in the gift shop, where you pay for the tour, was above and beyond helpful! She was willing and able to answer any and all of our questions. Would highly recommend stopping and touring this lovely home.

It really does feel like the residents had just up and walked out. I was hoping for a little more in the formal gardens, but maybe they don't have enough staff to keep up with it, and it is early in the season.
